Did a quick search didn't see a 2009 thread for Jets issues/games etc.

-----

Discuss all issues pertinent to the NYJ here if you would like.

Things to maybe discuss:

1. Sanchez's maturation, growth, and performance

2. Leon Washington's role

3. The overall aggressiveness of the defense - success or failure?

4. Rex's first year on the job

5. Overall impressions (record, coaching moves, etc).

1. Sanchez's maturation, growth, and performance

Looks good, even if it's onlt the first game. Has an above average arm, and very above average feet. This enables him to keep plays alive and make some nice plays. It will also lead to some bad interceptions, and bad reads. If they can keep that to a minimum, he should be fine this year.

2. Leon Washington's role

We saw right away they will not shy away from using him between the 20s and in open space. He will be lifted, more often than not, in short yardage situations. Will there be enough plays to both give Leon and TJ value? This week there was, and I think so moving forward.

3. The overall aggressiveness of the defense - success or failure?

They were VERY aggressive this game. I think they caught the Texans by surprise this week, but it will be harder for the Jets to do so as tape starts rolling in on their coverages, blitz schemes, etc. I think the unit shows promise, and Ellis comes back next week, and Pace in Week 5. So far so good.

4. Rex's first year on the job

1-0, but looks the part right now

5. Overall impressions (record, coaching moves, etc).

Will fill in as needed, but I think they are in good shape if they can keep Sanchez's mistakes to a minimum. Many people didn't give them a chance against HOU, but they came away looking impressive.

Ryan fits a certain coaching type...I've never read any articles on this, but the type who is great at motivating short term but wears out his welcome quickly. Doug Collins in the NBA comes to mind, Billy Martin in MLB, his dad in the NFL.

Very abrasive, bit of a buffoon.

Having said that, he's got the guys pumped up at the moment. Very savvy bringing in Scott and Leonhard, there is a whole different level of intensity to Gang Green this year.

NT Kris Jenkins

On Rex Ryan’s night-before-the-game speech, taken from here.

Honestly, it is hard to kind of put it into words but we have come to the conclusion that we need to call the NFLPA and put him on the banned-substances list because whatever he did, he said, was performing-enhancing, definitely. You could just tell by the excitement that a lot of guys believe in the system. We really think this is going to be a structured year for us. We are just trying to make sure that we do our best to keep this coach around.

Nice win today - moves the Jets 3-0.

Big week ahead against the Saints - going to be a tough road to hoe, especially on the turft against that high powered O.

Should be a great game next week. With this schedule, I would have been happy with anything better than 1-3 after week 4. Feelin' good right now!

Color me impressed... Rex has done wonders with that D Sanchez looks terrific for a rookie I think if they can pressure Brees they got a good chance

Like Bellichik, Ryan excites players mid week with fun, exciting and effective game plans.... Players like to see a coach who knows what he's talking about and can get players in the right position to excel...IMO that motivates players more than anything...If you actually watch his press conferences, he's funny... A lot of what hge says is tongue in cheek.

today was frustrating to watch at times. The Blitz packages weren't nearly as effective (or complex) as in previous weeks. If i had to guess, I'd blame it on concern for emptying the 2nd level (LB's blitzing) and losing contain on CJ.

One more week till Pace gets back, which should eliminate some of the need to send Harris and Scott so frequently.

I think the Saints probably take the game next week in NO. Still, 3-1 would be an awesome start.

Rex definitely toned down the blitzes because of C Johnson and his explosiveness. Especially late in the game, I thought he should have been blitzing more. In the end, the game plan worked, but I thought the edge was off a bit. As far as sending Harris or Scott too frequently... I'm not buying. That is how the Jets beat Hou and NE. That is how I hope the Jets can beat NO. Brees has to suffer relentless pressure and hits. Mad crazy blitzes.... and let the safeties worry about Turner.

Rex said they played more coverage in the 1st half and then turned on the heat.... Gotta give credit also to a talented Tenn team playing for it's life out there....What concerns me most is the running game - Up 14-0 driving near FG range I was screaming just to run run run and get up 17-0 and right there Sanchez gets stripped.... Again later in the game RUN THE BALL and Sanchez throws the pick....Rex - DO NOT forget, this is supposed to be a smashmouth, run the ball 500 times for the season offense..... I think at times this year the offense gets a little cocky. And maybe the OL isn't pulling it's weight right now - Again, credit a stiff Tenn DL and defense as well... Fantasy wise - I was thinking Thomas Jones might be a good buy low candidate - Once the weather turns and possibly some weaker defenses pop up TJ will get it going again? And yeah, NO is a real tough matchup for this team right now... It'll be nice to have a fresh Pace back for Miami..... Kinda sad that it looks like Chad won't be there - I was looking forward to seeing Chad punished. But, as Jets fans, as tough and a competitor Chad is, we've seen him take that awkward soft fall and be knocked out. Too Bad.

quite frankly, i dont see that Tennesse team as being all that talented. Tough? Sure. well coached?absolutely. But i dont see a ton of talent there. The lines are very good (although the D-line has taken a hit with big albert gone) but other than those two units and the running backs (Lendale White looks much improved) its an average football team.

Cortland Finnegan gets a lot of press, but AJ absolutely cut him to pieces last week.

The Titans have played a brutal schedule. There's no doubt about it. However, without Haynesworth, i think its a stretch to say that that team is in the top1/2 of the league in terms of pure talent. Just my opinion of course, but i'm pretty sure i could find 15 rosters i'd rather have.

NO is a tough matchup for ANY team. I think you will see a game plan much more like the one used against Houston. Lots of blitzing. More run calls, try to control the clock. Give Brees as little time as possible. But then, Bush and P Thomas can still ruin your day. The Jets have gotten MUCH better, but I just don't know if they are ready for the Saints yet. Should be a fun game to watch.

An eventful week for the Jets as they now sit at 3-1. Defense played well, but the inexperience at the QB position was on display as he was rattled, mismanaged the game, and was not the QB we saw the first few weeks.

However, there is great cause for optimism with improved QB play, as the defense looks for real.

Add to that the acquisition of Braylon Edwards, and things get even more interesting. Will BE revert to his 07 form? Or continue down the path of mediocrity and disappoint?

Pfffffffffffffffffffft...Jenkins out for the year.... Thanks for playing. No link.
wow - that sux for the Jets.Does Gholston take his place? Does it force them to pay a 4-3 even if they don't have the personnel to do that?
I can feel the giddiness oozing from you..... Surprised you didn't start a new thread yet. They played 4-3 sets anyway, it's not as hard as transitioning the other way IMO...Rex's whole scheme was to play MULTIPLE fronts and mix it up..... It's the loss of Talent regardless.....
