At least it didn't happen mid-game like Vontae Davis (though I'm not ruling out that it can still happen to us over the next 9 weeks).

Interesting quotes in there. Certainly being benched may have been a factor, but also may be due to things we don't see -- given Conley's development, and perhaps being outplayed by Hall, Melvin and Nelson, or with Worley healing up, the team may have been down the road to cutting him in order to bring up Cowser, and gave him the option to retire instead.

Who knows?

It certainly isn't great that a player chooses mid-season retirement over staying with the team for the long hall, but we may not always have the full story.

Unfortunately, the Raiders shoukd win this one by a handful of points.   Then again, that raiders D is pretty awful.   SF should be able to run the ball successfully 

 
I need one of those wearing the rose-colored glasses to help my understand their optimism. I have watched the DT play closely the past couple weeks and see nothing inspiring. Hall is completely invisible and the best thing I can say about Hurst is he hustles. He doesn’t make many plays but he does hustle.

I see zero positives on defense. This is Nic Mullens we're talking about! A no name QB in his first start ever and they make him look like a veteran QB. When they play the Chiefs I predict Mahomes only plays the 1st half, that's how bad they are.

 
I'm in Ottawa on business and stopped into a pub for the game. Decided to wear a Raider shirt I have. Left after the 1st quarter hanging my head as the table of guys beside me asked if I wanted to "cover up" and borrow a sweater.

They have exceeded my lowest expectations.  What the hell do they do all week in practice? They've got to the the dumbest defense in the league. 

 
If we hadn't already we have reached the embarrassing level.  There is losing and sucking and then there is this.

 
Zero effort meets total lack of interest on the defensive side of the ball. These guys have mailed it in.

i think they all knew as soon as the mack trade happened.  drc is football old and doesn't care anymore.  the rest of them still need to get their money.  just awful.

i f'ing knew gruden was a huge mistake.  "arrrrgghh, chucky face, split y banana, i'm going to the bank!"

I feel for Raider fans. My best buddy is a Raiders guy so I default root for them too. I started the season playfully picking on him. Tonight went from funny to tragic. 

Gruden is full of ####. No one wants to play

Gruden is full of ####. No one wants to play for the 2019 Raiders. This team has quit for the year. The next 2 or 3 wont be any better.

Hopefully they hit on some of these first rounders, but those are like a 50/50 shot. 

I cant even remember the last time I was this upset with any sports franchise.

 
I was rooting for a loss so we’d be in the driver's seat for the 1st overall pick, but the Raiders really went above and beyond the levels of loosing I was expecting. Great job, team.

Last night was totally embarrassing, but as soon as Mack was traded that should have told everyone the plan was to try to compete when they got to Vegas.  A lot of people in here are completely failing to grasp that.  The optics of last night are terrible but nothing that happens this year matters.  Like it or not Gruden gets judged based on what he does with the next couple drafts and 2-3 years from now.

Also, this team has made the playoffs once in the last 15 seasons.  ONCE!!!  Did I miss the dynasty that Gruden ruined?  We had a team get lucky and catch all the breaks and have one excellent season that masked a completely flawed roster.  Then go back to the same team they were for a decade plus before the fluke year.

Gruden has a plan, and while I will concede it didn't include getting embarrassed like last night, he also knew this year was not about competing for a title.

100% agree- the raiders have sucked for awhile. Mack holdout caught everyone by surprise, but I don’t fault them for making the trade if they didn’t think they could keep him. Cooper is overrated- reminds me of the Roy Williams trade, cooper may put up a year or two of decent fantasy numbers but he’s not Andre Johnson or aj green. Gruden  has stockpiled picks and will try to mold a team to what he wants. GMs do this all the time, out with whoever, in comes some vet they’ve worked with or some guy they drafted. He’s doing what he needs to in the short term to win long term. Still have to make the right picks and coach them up.
