***OFFICIAL OKLAHOMA SOONERS FOOTBALL - SEC 11-1 *** (5 Viewers)

He described the atmosphere as pleasant and added: “Some people who attend the University of Oklahoma seem to represent different values than some people who attend the University of Texas.”
I thought it was strange that they compared a party thrown by boosters in Dallas to an official visit hosted by the coach. I'm sure if he'd gone to an OU party in Dallas they would have had the same experience. Seems like they made their decision and then made sure the backstory fit their perspective. Filthy Okie bastards.

Probably so. These recruiting battles are akin to child custody battles.

fwiw I think that mother is a little off her rocker. I'm glad he chose OU (for now, nothing official yet, and given how wishy washy he was nothing would surprise me) but I could see him having some emotional problems living away from home for the first time. Time to grow up.

Stoops to Denver?

Several personnel executives in the league said there already was a buzz in the scouting community that the Broncos, because of their firepower on offense, could be the job that finally lures Bob Stoops away from the University of Oklahoma. Bowlen said he would give consideration to a college coach.

Stoops has been linked to several NFL openings in recent years. But he is well-compensated at the collegiate powerhouse, set to earn $6 million this year because of a $3 million bonus for finishing his 10th season in Norman, Okla
Awesome, that's what we needed this week. :hophead:

I'll be shocked if that happens. Both parties would be making a mistake.

That said, if he does go, is there anyone that doesn't want Leach?

Stoops needs to come out soon and say that he is staying at OU. This is not what OU needs to be focused on.
I don't see the point. Such declarations have proved meaningless in the past and it's not going to make people stop asking questions.I also find it hard to believe that he'd make the switch. Why give up making a ####pile of money at one of the five biggest programs in college football for the stress of an NFL gig.

:lmao: Read in the Tulsa World he's getting ready to collect a $3 million retention bonus for staying 10 years. He'll get another $250,000 when OU wins next Thursday.:powerofpositivethinking: :loco:

He said today he wasn't a candidate for the job.
This was great news for Sooner Football Fans. Has anyone seen the recruiting class for 2009? Looks pretty good, but I don't understand with the OU pro style offense why OU didn't have more 5 star recruits?
Some pretty good defensive players so far especially with MacFarland and Chaisson. If they get Randle and or Moses they'll be a top 5 class.

And, there's no point in worrying about five star recruits. So many don't pan out. Stoops does a fine job of recruiting good enough players and developing them on campus. As opposed to a certain Tobacco Road Con Man that recruits five stars who are as good as they're going to get the minute they arrive on campus.

Since I was looking over Michigan's recruiting situation I went to Scout dot com who currently has OU 3rd which I think is a little high. McFarland (#5 DT in nation although he might be #1) and Lynn (#1) are the two best players, I agree with them there and I also think they have S Javon Harris low (15). Some of the other rankings though I'm not sure about including 4 stars for WR Eric Ward.

Lots of defense though, lots of it. Darius Jones might end up as a corner also but I think he has a chance to return punts the year after next, he's supposed to be a big time playmaker after being a Qb running the option in HS.

A lot of buzz lately about Bradford going pro...

Sources close to the National Football Post have told us that Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford, barring an injury in Thursday night’s BCS National Championship game against Florida, will declare for the NFL Draft. The 6-foot-4, 218-pound sophomore and Heisman Trophy winner threw for 4,464 yards and 48 touchdowns with only 6 interceptions in leading the Sooners to the Big 12 championship and a 12-1 record.

The question now is where Bradford will end up in April’s draft. According to National Football Post draft expert Wes Bunting:

“Bradford instantly jumps toward the head of the quarterback class in the 2009 draft and will battle Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford for the top quarterback spot. Expect Bradford to draw interest toward the top end of the first round and be in the mix for the first overall pick. The Detroit Lions (who hold the first pick) and the Kansas City Chiefs (who hold the third overall pick) are both expected to be very interested in his services, as well as the 49ers at pick ten.

Also, two teams toward the middle of the draft can also be expected to have serious interest in Bradford but will likely need to trade up to get him. The Minnesota Vikings are still searching for a franchise quarterback, and Bradford would be an ideal fit to run Brad Childress’ west coast offense. In addition, Jon Gruden of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers has never met a quarterback he didn’t like, and Bradford has the accuracy and intelligence to run Gruden’s version of the west coast offense to perfection.”

Man I sure hope he comes back, or at least doesn't end up in Detroit!

24 hours away and I'm feeling

I have three guys at work that are Florida fans and they all decided to bring their gear in and come by my desk today. I picked up the box of tissues and told them to keep them through Friday.

Besides that though I can't even talk about the game. So many people are just assuming they are not only gonna get beat, but beat bad. I think they have a good chance, dunno. I guess it doesn't matter anyway, if they come out loose and play like a team with nothing to lose as the dog, they are gonna be tough to beat. The special teams worry me, but I like their chances against a very young Florida secondary in a close game.

Broyles and Travis Lewis are gonna have big games, and they won't lose if they commit zero turnovers. Outside of that I'm just nervous and excited, could barely concentrate at work today. All I kept thinking about is how Florida State was so much better and faster in 2000 (I wasn't a fan yet then) and how OU was gonna kill LSU. It's really hard to get a feeling for a game after these teams have been off for a month IMO.

I understand, a lot of the guys I work with here in Tulsa are BIG fans, season ticket holders, ex players etc., and they don't feel good about the game either. I just hope that OU can pull out another good game, and the talk of everyone leaving to go pro isn't a distraction. I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.

nervous nelly here. hopefully lots of booze will steady my hand tonight. i'm not talking about the game. difficult being confident considering the recent track record. but to paraphrase billy sims, damned if i can't say BOOMER!

Man after watching the "experts" talk about the game on ESPN and the NFL network I guess I should be happy if OU keeps this game within 4 tds. In my opinion it sounded as if the experts were saying that OU shouldn't even be playing against the Gators. Only one reporter has picked OU and after the beating that OSU/TT got in bowl games he was acting like he wanted to back out of the OU pick.

Reminds me of the fla st shtick when we shut them down for our 7th crown. Hope the outcome is as satisfying this time around. Still nervous though. I get a lot of crap where I live (between Perry and Stillwater) from aggie fans. Hope to collect on a few bets from some of them. GO SOONERS!

Stephen A Smith went on a long rant of why Florida would win and he used the tackles for loss stat as his anchor. He said OU only had 8 tackles for loss this year while Florida had 87 and that was more than enough for him to predict Florida winning easily. Problem is OU was 8th nationally in tackles for loss, and Florida was 87th. Nice job Stephen, as always you are right on top of ####. :goodposting:

:popcorn:you gotta be ####in kidding me!

This game reminds me of the tOSU - FU game a couple years ago. tOSU was going to smoke Florida, yada, yada, yada. We all know what happened.

Quite frankly, I think OU is going to have to shoot themselves in the foot or have Bradford get knocked out, in order for Florida to win this game. OU should be favored by at least 3 points.

All I've been hearing about this matchup is how Florida has faced SEC defenses all year, while OU has faced Big 12 defenses. Everyone is ignoring the most important matchups, the oline and dlines. OU has the superior line on both sides of the ball.

I would like someone to explain to me how Florida is going to get pressure on Bradford without blitzing. Texas was the only team all year that I saw pressure Bradford with their front 4 (Note: I didn't see the TCU or Cincy games), and that was almost soley due to Orakapo who abused Loadholt. Florida has no pass rusher of his caliber.

The Gators defense is very talented, but they are also extremely young. I see Bradford picking them apart.

As far as I can tell, OU also has the fastest front 7 that Florida has faced all year. But no one wants to talk about that, they will just keep pining about all the "great" SEC defenses FU has faced all season.

OU 45 Fla 31 - and the final score will be closer than the actual game.

One more thing. I get on the elevator at work this morning with one other guy who is wearing an OU jacket. I ask him if his guys were going to win the game tonight.

His reply: "Damn straight we're going to win! And after the game we're going to have our way with their cheerleaders!"

You guys really shouldn't be that nervous after hearing this.

:lmao: No wonder I was :lmao: when I first started reading. OU had to have at least 8 tackles for loss in the TTU game alone. The D-Line camped out in TTU's backfield.

Saw a quote from Urban Meyer the other day. Said he thinks OU is faster on D than any team UF's faced all year.

Good for OU! Who tries to lure a "stud athlete" with naked women, and stretch limo's? That is so played out. Better luck next time Texas!
I guess Texas will just have to be happy with there 9 ESPN 150 commits. :thumbup:EDIT : There's still time though esp. for the winner of this game. There are several big time players still undecided.

The post game show looks like Sam Bradford has been crying his eyes out. Man he looks like he is 12 years old in the face. Stoops kinda of steeping in and helping out with the questions. I sure hope he stays at OU another year.

1-3 in national title games for Stoops. #### it. Had you told me Stoops would be playing for 4 titles in a decadeI would be thrilled. You play great teams in title games. OU gave one away tonight I think. Not cashing in on those 1st half chances comes back to bite.

Congrats Gator fans.

Boomer Sooner!

Two great years. Two conference championships. Two BCS games including a NC game. 1 Heisman Trophy. OU's losing 4/5 of the O-Line. He's done enough. Go get your  Sam

Local TV station reporting that Bradford is staying at OU.
The media read Stoops that way also. McCoy coming back is nice and I'd certainly love Bradford to come back because otherwise we are looking at a redshirt freshman qb next year (Jones). I think Gresham is gone but maybe Trent Williams will come back, that would be nice.

It's almost official! Bradford is coming back!

Link
Good News! Bradford can always get an insurance policy through Lloyds of London to cover him in case of an injury.
Gresham coming back too!!!!!!!! Here is my take on the O-line for next year. A lot of guessing at this point but if anyone has anything to add or correct here please do so:

It won't be as good as this year but Trent Williams returns and he'll move to LT and we have a JC transfer to play on the right side right away. Brian Williams will be one of the guards and Massie a 4 star recruit will get time at a tackle position. Ben Habern was the #4 Center at Scout.com last year and he will likely start at center and they have a lot of other guys to fill the guard spots. It'll take time to gell but by midseason next year they are gonna be very good.

They will get ranked teams in their first two games though, including a trip back to Miami to play the Canes.

A lot of weapons next year for OU...Bradford, Murray, Gresham more to come hopefully. Big game for OU to start the season at Miami.

They will open vs BYU at Jerryland on Sept 5th (I'm going) unless they move the Tulsa game up to August 29th. I don't think they have a date for that yet. Can you also change this threads subtopic to offseason or something?
