Got MSG1 without a problem...when I was extracting MSG2, it said that the Last Kiss file was corrupt and it stopped. I'm now missing Last Kiss, Why Go, Black Diamond, Alive, and Yellow Ledbetter. Anyone else have this problem?

Also, shut out for EV tix....

TU is this ticket still available? I may be up for it. It is the August 5th show correct

The entire VH1 show is really well put together. PJ kicked ### on LROM as always....I'm not the biggest "The Real Me" fan, but it's nice hearing them do something they've never done before.

I ####### love the who......they really are freaking amazing

Based on setlist alone, that is really a great one. Gotta try to track it down somewhere

Take a look in the Given To Fly section of the message pit. One of the users there has uploaded virtually all the shows at high bit rates. This one is definitely out there because I was looking for it. Trying to get all shows I have been to and, outside of pre-1996 shows, think I have found them all there. Should be relatively simple to find using the search functionalityBTW, this was an AWESOME show. Took a buddy of mine who had never seen them before and he was like "Now I know why you go see these guys so much!" Classic moment is Mike's guitar feeding back/zapping out during "Crazy Mary''...freaked 'em all out.

Forgot I did not post this here. Enjoy, as its a pretty good set

Only hitting the Newark show. And, unfortunately, based on current logistics, I am likely just getting up there in time for the show, preventing my attendance at another FBG gathering...but, have one for me :D

Both NYC shows were great

Was 2nd row dead center for Monday's show...Eddie did an impromptu Let My Love Open the Door which was great

Was up in the balcony yesterday, but the accoustics were tremendous

A bit sad tomorrow will be the end of PJ and EV for me this year (and judging by what he said last night, maybe for a while)

He said something along the lines of "I'm glad you're enjoying this, because we won't be back for a while"

That's cool too. Nice surprise I bet once the show started. I've always like balcony views.

It was a good run.

That sucks, make the most of it.I've mentioned a few rumors on here before that didn't come to fruition and this one may also be far-fetched but one thing I know about it is it was definitely said. A buddy knows this chick that worked closely for the band (bookkeeper or something), knows all of the guys. That part is true. So they were having dinner Sunday and she said Pearl Jam are going to play in Hawaii in December. That part, I question but she did say it.I know, sounds nuts. But I made sure exactly what was said. Personally, I'll believe it when I see it but hell, there's hope. And they're playing at The Bridge School Benefit, right? I may go to that. I always try to explain what a great two days of music that is. My favorite festival-type thing, by far. You should try to make that. Anyway, glad you got such great seats. Have a good one tomorrow...

Yeah, although not officially confirmed, I think Bridge is very likely (especially after Eddie had to cancel last year)I could see PJ playing a show or two in Hawaii...That would be awesome for you

Yeah, Hawaii would be insane. And if somehow true, then I will also have the serious hookups because of that chick. I already asked about that.

See you at The Bridge in late October. Just checked, 9er's are at home against the Seahawks that weekend...

You never know...Also, Springsteen was at the show last night, and as of 8:15, he was backstage talking about sitting in with EddieNever came to fruition, but there is rampant speculation that it might tomorrow night in Newark

Was a little bummed that Bruce was a no show, but certainly did not detract from the show. Eddie seemed in a good mood and the taste of "unripened fruit" was cool. Add in the story behind Ledbetter and what more can one ask for?

Copied from a post on the Pit, which got the info from Wikipedia, but gives the gist of the story:Pretty much confirmed what's on wikipedia, but was nice to hear it in person...."LyricsThe song's name is derived from the actual name of an old friend of Vedder from Chicago, named Tim Ledbetter.[2] The lyrics of "Yellow Ledbetter" have proven undecipherable when heard live and even on the early recorded version, as Vedder mumbles through much of the song with only certain parts being heard prominently, such as the famous line at the end of each verse "I said, I don’t know whether I was the boxer or the bag", with these parts of the song heard on almost every live rendition of the song. There are many unofficial lyrics on various websites.Although many fans have made their own interpretations of the song, a common theory is that the song is about someone receiving a letter and finding his or her brother had died overseas in war,[6] cited from the lyrics in the Live at the Garden version "I don't know whether my brother will be coming home in a box or a bag"). On the official bootleg release of 7/11/03 - Mansfield, Massachusetts, Vedder sings in the first verse "I think of him when I go to bed, and he's coming home in a box or a bag". On the official bootleg release of 5/3/03 - State College, Pennsylvania, Vedder sings "And my brother...they sent him off to fight for the flag, I just, I don't hope he comes home in a box or a bag".Regarding the song, Vedder said that it was written around the time of the Gulf War, and added that "it's an anti-patriotic song, actually."[7]. On the official bootleg release of 5/3/03 - State College, Pennsylvania, Vedder sings "On the wayside I'd like to wish this war away - and I tried but it just, it just don't happen that way". This emphasizes the bands strong anti-war message, a message which is often reiterated during concerts when Vedder speaks to the crowd. Note in Immagine In Cornice before the band launches into "Life Wasted", Vedder speaks in Italian to the crowd, saying, "In a period of war, we will sing songs that speak about the importance of peace."

I was at the Toronto shows. Both were fantastic. Couldn't get tickets from 10c as I was out of the country during the presale but I scored a ticket for each night for $120 cdn each. The energy at Massey Hall was amazing as the connection between Neil Young (who has had a number of famous concerts at the Hall) and PJ/EV are well known. I wanted to snap a photo or two but the first night I forgot the camera and the second I put a dead battery in the cam. :bag: I actually think I have one shot of ed.. I'll see if it turned out

Yeah, that's what I was looking for. BBWC, I appreciate the low-down, thanks, but that much I knew. I thought maybe he let the cat out of the box...er bag.
That was pretty much a summary version of what he said. I did not know that before, so it was new news to me. May be able to find out more specifics in the Newark thread in the Message Pit if you want to dig further.

Yup. I actually brought my acoustic guitar out to the living room and started playing the main riff every time she started a new apparatus.

Here's my NJ Recap/Review:

My buddy and I got to the venue about 6 PM with the intention of grabbing our tix and then hitting one of a couple of bar options I had read about in Newark beforehand. This proved entirely unnecessary, however, as the city of Newark apparently has this festival type thing at NJPAC every Thursday in the summer, with music, food, drinks, etc. It was a gorgeous day, so we decided to just grab some food/drink there before heading in to the theater. This was very cool, as it had a totally different vibe than either parking lot tailgating or bar pre-partying. Just a bunch of people standing outside in beautiful weather, eating and drinking and talking about PJ and EV. Random sighting of Kenny Mayne as he walked right by us.

We had planned to catch some of Liam Finn's set, but we met a friend of my buddy Keith's and we were chatting with her for an hour or so. We had like 10th row center aisle seats, which were excellent. She ended up directly in front of us in the theater too, which was pretty damn random. We headed in about 20 minutes before Eddie came on, and let me tell you, the venue was spectacular. It's about 10 years old, but looks brand new. Here are an interior and an exterior picture:

Exterior: http://www.rthotel.com/NJPAC/njpac.1.jpg

Interior: http://usa.mapexdrums.com/images/news/NJPAC_300.jpg

It really is gorgeous. The lobby, bathroom, everything is really luxurious. The accoustics were incredible. Probably the nicest place I have ever seen a show, and very different from the United Palace Theater here in NYC where I saw EV Monday and Tues, which has a ton of that old church/theater character, but is also decently rundown and old. NJPAC is just a warm, inviting venue, and I would love to see another show there sometime. Even Eddie commented on it at one point, saying "Now when someone asks me where my favorite theater to play a show is, I can tell them it is in Newark, NJ."

Anyway, on to the show. Eddie came out, and the crowd went nuts. Gave him about a 5 minute standing ovation. He sort of stood there and took it all in, before thanking us and sitting down. He started with the now familiar Walking The Cow, Trouble exacta, and I have to say, even though this was the third time in about 72 hours I was hearing him open with those two songs, I wasn't bored in the least. It really is incredible how he can, just sitting there with a guitar, command an entire theater the way he does. With the stage set, the songs he chooses, the banter with the audience, these shows just have a really cool vibe, and I'm glad I could be a part of them.

After Trouble he broke out Don't Be Shy, a Cat Stevens song from Harold and Maude. Just a cool little song that really fit the mood of the evening and Eddie's voice. Eddie seemed to be in a great mood, visibly more upbeat than he had been earlier in the week. Eddie then went into a bunch of PJ stuff: Around the Bend (which sounded amazing), I Am Mine (Always one of my favorites; "There's No Need to Hide, We're Safe Toniiiiiiiight!"), Dead Man, Sometimes, I'm Open, and Man of the Hour. He interspersed several funny stories, comments, etc throughout. He said that in 94/95 he was being reclusive, not writing anything, getting his meals under the door, etc when Tim Robbins called and asked him to write a song for Dead Man Walking. Now, Eddie said, his manager calls Tim up whenever Eddie hasn't written anything in a while and asks him to call Eddie and ask him to write a song. He also said how Tim hadn't called we wouldn't have been there that night, because it was through Tim that he met Sean Penn, and how he ultimately got involved with Into the Wild.

Ed then debuted a song he wrote at 5 AM that morning when he couldn't sleep. Despite his concern that he was "picking a piece of fruit before it was ripe," the song sounded pretty fully formed, both lyrically and musically. The name is apparently Unthoughts Known, and it was a solid effort, not incredibly memorable, but solid nonetheless.

The crowd really got into it over the next several songs, starting with Driftin, which is always a foot stomping good time. Ed then tore through an inspired version of Master of War. You can really feel him projecting his anger through this song, and I love to hear him sing it. Even though he was in a very good mood all night, this song was intense and angry. Pretty awesome. Ed then segued into what I have been calling the ITW suite. It works really well to have these songs done together, as they are all somewhat short/slight on their own, but together have thematic weight.

A bit earlier Ed had said that he was in such a good mood, he might even do some Q&A. He pointed to a guy in like the 3rd row, and the conversation went like this:

EV: You, do you have a question

Guy: Ah, eh, stammer stammer

EV:(pause) I picked the wrong guy to ask a question

Guy: Thanks for all the music

EV: That's not a question, that's a comment

Guy: Can I request a song?

EV: Sure, you can request one...

Guy: (inaudible)

EV: Not a chance

(crowd laughs)

Turns out the guy asked for In My Tree (solo? think people!) After the ITW suite, Eddie dedicated the next song to that guy, even though it wasn't the song he wanted. He asked up to pretend it was the 7th inning stretch, and stand up and sing. He then launched into a beautiful version of Elderly Woman...Crowd was really belting it out, and it was awesome to turn around and look up at all the people in the 4 balconies singing, arms outstretched especially during the "I just want to say, Heeellllllloooooooo!" part

To be continued

Ed finsihed the main set with a beautiful Goodbye (You're True), Soon Forget, Forever Young, and Porch. Forever Young was in dimmed light and was dedicated to anyone celebrating a birthday. Gorgeous. After Soon Forget with his Uke, Eddie said he was celebrating his first bad review, from the NY Times. He talked about how they called him brooding and filled with righteousness, and how there is a difference between being righteous and being right. He also riffed on the brooding thing, calling the instrument in his hands his mother####ing bad ### ukelele. It was very funny.

The accoustic Porch close was also a strong crowd sing a long, and again, the excellent accoustics really added to the song.

He opened the 1st encore with Liam, duetting on Society and an absolutely beautiful Throw Your Arms Around Me. Their voices really work well together, and it was just another beautiful moment. At this point he said he'd take another audience question, and someone yelled out, "What are the lyrics to Yellow Ledbetter?" This led to the following, during which the entire audience was silent, sitting on every word, knowing they were witnessing a very special moment and a real intimate look into the songwriting process. (Transcription from the Message Pit):

What, that song has lyrics? I guess it’s uh, uh, I don’t remember how it goes. They don’t wave, it’s something about they don’t wave. I see them on the front porch, but they don’t wave. This was during the Gulf War, this is Papa Bush. It was about a guy whose brother went to fight in the first Gulf War, and he was kind of an alternative looking guy, like we were, with our shorts and tights and long hair and whatever we had going on. We were activists, and artists, and good young people in Seattle, and smart people (we weren’t ALL drug addicts, you know). And so it was the story about his brother being killed over there, and then he gets a yellow letter in the mail, that says your brother was killed.

And so he tries to take a walk, he’s walking this off in his little suburban neighborhood, and he’s walking it off, his mind’s racing, he doesn’t know what to do, he feels like he can’t take a step without falling into some deep abyss, and he’s walking and walking, and he sees a couple on a porch with an American flag, he waves to them, like, “you’re my brother,” you know. And then the people look at him like, “You f8ucking scumbag.” You know what I mean? Who are you? They don’t know. They don’t know the inside; they judge him by his cover. That’s what the thought was.
It was way cool. After that, he played Growin Up, which took on special resonance following that story, and a typically raucous Lukin (which, as stated earlier, will forever now be connected to Nastia Liukin for me). At this point he intro'ed into another song, which he said was him just wanting to play more songs. What followed was a great version of Let My Love Open the Door. Wasn't as much of a shock as hearing it Monday for the 1st time ever, but it was still very cool, especially as Eddie tried to orchestrate the male/female chorus parts.

He finished the 1st Encore with Arc, which is always practically a religious experience, but in that venue, was raised even higher somehow. Goosebumps.

He came out for the 2nd encore and rocked Hard Sun with Liam and EJ. My buddy and I ran up to the stage at this point and were right in front of Eddie. Great energy, great song, and at the end he leaned back and onto our arms (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_qvWxg-8A3Pg/SJxvA02LPpI/AAAAAAAABz0/kAgzkK-9oxI/s1600-h/29744129306_0_BG.jpg)

Just a cool way to end an amazing evening.

I have heard rumors of a boot of this show out there, and I would love to have one. Ed was in great humor, the show sounded awesome, and it was just a whole lot of fun.

Couple of other random comments about the show:

*Ed talked about the first show he ever went to, a Bruce show, and how he was in the last, last row. As such, he said he was only going to play happy songs because he didn't want anyone to jump from the balconies

*Between songs he was finger picking and all of a sudden played the intro to "Turning Japanese" by The Vapors. He stopped and asked aloud, "Now where did that come from?"

*Ushers were wearing tuxes

*SLBD: I ran into those two 18 year old kids we met in the Parking lot of the hotel in Mansfield. They had also been to both NYC shows. Very cool kids. They asked about you.

And I'm spent

If you're still reading this, you're almost as sick as I am for writing all of it

Awesome review TU. I'm heading down to Milwaukee on Tuesday for the show at the Riverside Theater. I've never been there before, but seeing EV in a small venue I have no doubt is going to be amazing. Also, apparently there is a big Happy Days parade or something going on that night where they are dedicating a statue of Fonzy right downtown so hopefully traffic isn't too bad.

Enjoy TT, it's a special thing to see him on this tour...I can't adequately put it into words, but if you're a PJ/EV fan, the intimacy and vibe of these shows is about as good as it gets

Jesus Christ that was unreal, that review. I really felt like I was there. You know how you read something that you like, you kinda read it more slowly, so you don't miss anything and it doesn't go away as quickly? I do anyway, and that's what I just did. Good stuff NDLS, appreciate it!

I have this sudden urge to find a way to Chicago for those shows. Seriously. It can't happen but I know I'll still look. :bag:

Ah, Ledbetter, it all makes sense now. I feel relieved. So most of us were on the right track with that story, but nice to get the details, like why those ascholes never wave back. Now I know. I thought he was dead, waving, and they just didn't know he was there.

That theater looks amazing. What a difference that can make, especially for Vedder, when you know so much of what he does comes from the heart. You painted a perfect picture of why the mood there was what it was. Again, thanks.

Man did you get lucky with those seats, good god...

Masters of War, that's the first song that comes to mind when I think about wanting to have heard just one. It's the emotion.

I almost feel weird saying it, but what the hell... I think this ITW/solo tour will be viewed as the springboard for Ed's journey into Neil Young-dom down the road -- you know, the second half of his life. Historical, so to speak, as yet another breakthrough for the greatest artist of our generation (certainly mine anyway). I honestly feel fortunate to have witnessed it. The feedback from these shows, the vibe AT the shows, and the "results" therein, have exceeded everyone's expectations, no doubt. You could see it in the people's faces, especially after. Every show, it was the same, people were lit up.

When you think about it, that was a pretty courageous effort to, in the face of all that is Pearl Jam, embark on a solo tour. He could just have easily fallen flat on his face. You know how many people would have loved to see that? Sadly, a lot. I can hear the hecklers now. But instead, he pulls it off! And then some. How great is that? Needless to say, I'm stoked.

There's gonna be a lot of great music and memories yet to come. Feel fortunate for that; I hate endings.

Have a nice weekend everybody. Thanks again TU. :lmao:
