There's still one TBA left for Jazz Fest in NOLA.

http://www.nola.com/jazzfest/index.ssf/2011/12/new_orleans_jazz_fest_2012_lin.html

"The other TBA likely won't announce his plans until January. So the festival accommodated him, in the interest of building a better overall show."

While I guess I'd take it (foo fighters and MML the same weekend)...I would much rather see him in a theatre setting than a Jazz Fest Setting

ETA: Glen Hansard also playing Jazz fest that weekend

Not sure I'm liking the idea of a solo eddie gig at such a large venue. having seen him at places like the Ryman (nashville) or orpheum (memphis) I am concerned the show might not translate well to the huge open air venue.

Same here...plus side is that it will be on a Thursday, so it won't be nearly as ridiculous of a crowd as a Saturday headliner will be. And it could possibly be on one of the smaller stages.Oh well, can't complain too much I guess. I think I'm going to try to catch them in Houston as well.

Got fan club seats for Houston show, which is in a small theatre, so that's cool.

I Hippled it.

Not sure I want to drop $75/ea plus fees for Ed solo. I'll probably wait until PJ comes through again, likely sometime in 2019.

Ed's solo show is excellent...I have seen it 5 or 6 times now, and would recommend it for sure (at a non-festival venue)
It's a 2,500 seat concert hall. I just don't know, after buying Tool, Roger Waters, and Van Halen tickets for both me and the wife, and with the Mayhem Festival coming up, adding this is going to put me over $1,000 in concert tickets just in the last few weeks. Prices for these shows is getting absurd, it wasn't that long ago that I was getting tickets for $30 to these shows. I'm sorry these guys can't live high on the hog anymore now that file sharing has crippled the record industry, but don't expect me to subsidize your lifestyle by paying through the nose for tickets.Wait, that's exactly what I've been doing. ####. Seriously, though, concerts are getting to be like sporting events for me. Used to be, I'd nab a ticket to a Rangers game for $15, hop a train from New Brunswick to NYC, have a few brews, catch the game, go home, and be out a few hours of my time and $30-40. Few years ago, I went to a Jags/Steelers game at Alltel and 2 club-level seats were $500, it cost me $60 to park my car, beers were $8 a piece, and it took over an hour just to get out of the parking lot and on to the interstate to drive 3 hours home. Not long after, I bought a 58" TV and Sunday Ticket for not much more than it cost me to go to one game and haven't gone to another game live since. It's just not worth it.I've been to over 1,000 live shows in my life - in fact, it's more or less ALL I did from the ages of 18-25 or so. I never thought I would stop paying to see live music, but it's getting close to that point. Between me getting old and the cost/effort of going to shows escalating, it's reaching concert D-Day for ol' EG.

I went to get tix for The Wall at Yankee Stadium but it was sold out. I have never been a Floyd fan but heard it was a great show.

I saw Waters from row 2 floor (guy in the lobby sold me 2 promotional seats at face after some moron turned them down because he was looking for sub-face value seats since the show wasn't yet sold out) at the MGM Grand Garden arena about 10 years ago and he was terrific. The Wall should be outstanding, and at $330 for 2 seats in the upper deck, it ####ing better be.

I'm not sure how much of the artists are to blame. The ticketmaster/live nation "monopoly" over these venues is stronger now than it was in the 90s. Think it's just the going rate. I think EV/PJ do a pretty good job of keeping the prices down though

$75 before the fees are even added for this show. That'll end up being $90 all-in. Everyone's to blame - I'm not putting it all on the artists, but I'm sure some of this semi-recent spike in prices is due to album sales falling off. It's on the artists, the venues, the ticket brokers, everyone. The economy's in the toilet, I've been under a pay freeze for 4 years and the cost of everything entertainment-related just continues to climb and climb. Airline tickets, movie tickets, concert tickets, hotel rates, etc. The only way to fight back is to speak with your wallet.Of course, this is coming from a guy who is spending $1,000 on concert tickets in February alone, so take my rant with a grain of salt.

ETA: You also have to realize that the salaries/cost of living where I am is quite low, so a national touring act charging consistent ticket prices from city to city is a much better buy in NYC than it is here. A $75 ticket in New York or San Francisco is less than the cost of dinner and a movie for 2 people, down here, that same dinner and a movie is maybe $45. If that. Everything's relative.

Got fan club seats to both EV Houston shows :thumbup:anyone else going by any chance?
Vegas X2 and Phoenix for me. None of which are 10C. Got denied for Vegas and I must've screwed up for Phoenix, cuz they never got the transaction (attempt). Scored 7th row for Phoenix, but on the side...stoked on that. For Vegas, I got like 7th row, dead center, but on the (first) balcony...which I'm fine with. I like getting a different look sometimes. That show was added during the onsale of the first Vegas show (which is actually the second night). If not for that, I woulda been skunked on Vegas twice. So since we're there, we'll be going the second night as well. I have two friends that live in Vegas who I'll hit up for tickets to the second show. The one dude's a news anchor so I'm hoping he'll come through. Love the Vegas shows being on Tuesday and Wednesday, btw, cuz we'll save a ton on rooms.Phoenix is on a Friday, which will be great to party after. Then, on Saturday, we are talking about just driving to Coachella for Radiohead on Saturday...and a million others the rest of the weekend. Free place to stay there, so it's even more tempting. If that goes down, I will need a body bag on Monday.

Seeing all of you guys who get the Ten Club seats always makes me feel bad. I joined sometime in '93 and let it expire somewhere along the line. I always wonder how good of seats I'd be able to get today... :(

The Eddie solo shows are supposed to be random Ten Club seating, not taking into account seniority. Not sure I completely buy it, but that's the official "policy."

They already announced who plays when for Jazz Fest? For some STRANGE reason my wife brought up the Fest last week and I just kinda dismissed it. She's probably just messing with my head. Will Ed or MMJ play 90 minutes?

they've announced days, but not specific times. http://lineup.nojazzfest.com/Ed's the Thursday headliner, so he'll most likely get 90 minutes. I'm going to assume that MMJ is going to headline the 2nd biggest stage (not main stage) on Saturday so they might get close to 90 as well

 Hitting up these two Houston shows...then a rest for Jazz Fest. Vedder on Thursday, My Morning Jacket on Saturday, Foos on Sunday. Very pumped...all 10 minutes from my house.

Anyone ever seen/heard Zack Brown Band?
They already announced who plays when for Jazz Fest? For some STRANGE reason my wife brought up the Fest last week and I just kinda dismissed it. She's probably just messing with my head. Will Ed or MMJ play 90 minutes?
they've announced days, but not specific times. http://lineup.nojazzfest.com/Ed's the Thursday headliner, so he'll most likely get 90 minutes. I'm going to assume that MMJ is going to headline the 2nd biggest stage (not main stage) on Saturday so they might get close to 90 as well
So I guess this is being brought up for my 35th bday, which is in May. Interesting...What are your thoughts on the whole Jazz Fest experience? I'd be a festival noob, closest thing I've ever been to would be PJ Destination. 90% of the artists I have no idea who they are...but that's not to say I wouldn't enjoy myself. Can you get relatively close to the larger acts or do you have to get there super early and camp the main or 2nd stage all day long? Those VIP passes are insane expensive. We're still in the beginning stages of even deciding if this is feasible, but if we did go it would be Th/Sat Fest and Fri Bourbon/Casino. Any and all thoughts much appreciated!

Got fan club seats to both EV Houston shows

anyone else going by any chance?
Jazz Fest is awesome. Do a search in this thread, as I think I put together a detailed writeup when PJ played. You'll probably want to rule out get up relatively close...but if that's a priority, it can be done (either by waiting, or VIP tix). Personally, I don't think it's necessary. The food there is awesome, and there are some really cool smaller tents that you can walk in and out of and catch a few songs by some cool musicians you would never see anywhere else. If you care about Foo Fighters, they are Sunday FWIW.

No time now for more details, but feel free to ask anything specific away.

Went to JazzFest twice about 12 years ago or so and had a freaking ball. Honestly for me the big name acts were the least exciting part of the festival. The smaller stage guys like John Mooney or Galactic were just fantastic to see and discover.

Thanks for the info guys. Seems to be turning into whatever I want to do at this point...pending flight costs and stuff like that. Thinking about back to back Texas shows or the two Vegas shows or the NO Jazz Fest. Decisions Decisions....

And TF I did search the thread but I didn't see your write up. You probably didn't have "jazz fest" in the post or something. I know I read it a couple years ago...but I'll search again.

Anyone scalped in the past at solo shows? Smaller venues make it much tougher to score on show day?

Everything that comes up "jazz fest" that I've written beforeWould probably check out the jazz fest specific threads there and the "Official New Orleans Thread"...which is probably the best bet to ask specific questions as it will help out multiple folks at once. Here's a quick hit based on what I posted in another thread I found:

• Beer cans are $5 now, and they also have guys walking around with icechests selling 16oz bottles for $7

• No problem sneaking in a flask….for you vodka/rum drinkers, you’re allowed to bring in 1 bottle of water, so you will have no problem just sneaking it in like that if you want

• There are plenty of port a potty’s and the lines are rarely long

• What to bring - (1) Sunscreen (2) Chairs – most people use chairs and not blankets/tarps out there, so I suggest bringing a few and leaving them at your “home base” Everyone is very friendly, so no issue leaving them while you wander off (3) Soft cooler – they let you bring in a soft cooler full of ice….also, the beer guys will give you ice so you can buy a bunch of beers at once and just keep them in your cooler wherever you are (4) Ziploc bag for your phone in case it rains – very underrated, but a must have (5) If you opt to go the blanket/sheet route instead of the chairs, bring a few trash bags to put on the ground first so you’re not sitting in wet grass/mud

yeah, downside of that is that it could be around 100+ degrees...so not sure how much fun that is drinking whisky in the sun all day

All good.I saw your one post about meeting Eddie but you were too tired give the details. Then I didn't see another post about that...so I figured I was missing a long post about that story and your overall experience.

It was good to meet Sid, Regular Guy,Fuller, and [icon] again. And than you Tiger Fan for putting this together.Tiger Fan did you make it to Howling Wolf?
yeah, made it to the Wolf. Vedder was there with Nick Cage, Tim Robbins and Michael Stipe. Long story short, shook Vedder's hand and told him "Thanks for all the music, don't ever stop playing." and he replied with "Don't ever stop listening". then my buddy shook his hand and they headed out to go to another show.more details tomorrow, my body is exhausted from standing all day yesterday.
Bumping this for Bobcat. One of my buddies was having his Bachelor Party that weekend...the Friday night (night before PJ), we all went to dinner, barhopping, etc. I told them that I was getting out to jazz fest early to stake out a spot and that the group (About 12 or so) was more than welcome to set up near us if they made it out on time. Long story short...we met up at jazz fest, but weren't able to sit together. They bailed towards the edge of PJ to get back to the hotel and change and whatnot. After the show, I go over to a friend's house who was having a party while we waited for the call from our friend who books the Howlin' Wolf. He basically says it looks like Eddie is going to be there b/c he wants to check out the band and he could likely get us in...so we cab it down there and wait and drink. In the mean time, the bachelor party group ended up going to a restaurant that was literally around the corner from Howlin Wolf...and towards the end of their meal, I get a call from one of the group who was my college roomate and known for being a big prankster:"Hey dude, Eddie Vedder is sitting on the bench outside of Cochon just smoking a cigarette""Ha, ha""Dude, I'm not kidding""I'm literally around the corner at the Wolf right now, you serious?""Yeah, I swear"Then I get some text messages coming in from some other guys in the group, so I start to belive it a little bit. But I was still a bit skeptical, and I didn't want to risk not being able to get in the show, so I opt to stay.A few minutes later, our guy waves us in and whispers to me and my buddy (other die hard PJ fan) that Eddie is in the front stage left. So we casually go down there and it's Eddie, his wife, Stipe, Cage and Robbins just hanging out. I notice Ed's bodyguard in the back. I really don't think anyone noticed these guys, or if they did; they didn't bother them at all. Could've been becuase most of the crowd was high out of their minds, but either way, the seemed to be enjoying it. Cage was just as ####ed up as you can imagine he would be at 11pm in new orleans after a festival. As short as Ed is, Stipe is noticably shorter. Robbins looked like Andre the Giant next to them....and Ed's wife was smoking hot.At one point, I hear Robbins tell Ed that they want to jet to another place to check out another band...so at that point I figure it was now or never, so I casually nudge Ed and shake his hand and mentioned what I said above..then my buddy did something similar and they were off.It retrospect, I really wish I would have thought about handing him a beer b/c it would have been cool to say that I bought Eddie Vedder a beer...but nonetheless it was pretty cool. I had shaken his hand once before when they were in NOLA in 2003, but it was very rushed and no dialogue.Hope this didn't come off too stalkerish

 Great story! We had a run in with the band at Mandalay after their show, '03 I believe. I think it was just Boom and Stone from what I can recall. :banned: Boom was playing slots and we said what's up to him. Stone was at a table gambling...I didn't approach him...I don't think anyone did from my group. Still cool...but your story is great!

Where does Blood rank on the diehard Pearl Jam fan's "best songs" list?
I don't think there's mutual agreement on any "best song" list. Probably my 2nd or 3rd favorite off of Vs.1. Daughter (mostly b/c how awesome it is live with tags)

2/3. Blood/Go

But it could depend on what mood I'm in also

Side note.. tried to do this with Barkley one time... he said he doesn't accept drinks that are opened already which honestly makes perfect sense from a famous person's point of view. I offered to walk over to the bar and buy him a shot before he left but he apologized that he was in a hurry. Said no prob and shook his hand. Cool guy. Down to earth. I can totally see Ed avoiding drinking anything already opened. Sucks that the world is like that but he's had enough run ins with crazy people to be a little gunshy.

BTW got tickets for the Eddie show at the Orpheum here in Memphis via Fan Club presale.

HOpe my tickets are better than last time (2nd row balcony). My guess is they were so-so last time because I had already gotten tickets to the Ryman show 3 nights prior (6th row or something like that). Since this is my first and only tickets on this show I'm reallllly hoping for front 10 rows on the floor. We'll see....

Booked Vegas with the wife...now I just need Vedder tickets!

If anyone has any Vegas hookups for these tickets I'd greatly appreciate it. Just looking for two tickets for the Wednesday 4/11 show.
