Settled in, just waiting for what I hope is a Long road opener.

I'm probably at 4:00 on Stones side, clear view of the stage.

Poster in hand so I'm good on that front too

Had a lot of fun. Need to see the setlist but it feels like they played at least half of the new album if not more.

Massive pee break for let the records play so I must not be alone in my dislike.

Pendulum into release was great.

2nd set was killer outside of records

Ed #####ed like a little girl when he ran out of wine and threw a minor tantrum. Was disappointing to see a grown man act that way.

Ed stood on a swing like prop and sung the end of Porch swinging from it. Best version of porch I have seen.

Mike had a killer solo when Ed had to check on a broken guitar.

2 new songs that fit perfectly into their set was infallible and yellow moon. Was not a fan of swallowed whole tonight. Seemed to lose the energy and crowd.

Yellow Moon is hard for my ears to adjust to. I keep wanting to hear Low Light with 4 notes but YM is very similar but with a missing note or whatever.

SRSLY? What did he do?

Just before alive starts, he goes to take a swig of wine and spits it out. I have never had wine so I don't know why he did that. He then turned the bottle over and looked off stage on Stones side giving the universal WTF sign to the crew. He starts shooting them what I can only describe as an evil look while pointing at the bottle. I'm sure he would have kept going but he had to start singing. So then he starts mopeing around the stage. He throws the mic stand up a foot in the air, he started kicking over monitors and kicking around other props.

The roadie runs on stage with another bottle and Ed calms down a bit. All I was thinking was, dude, you have one or two more songs left. Seriously? Then I thought what would surfer Ed from 1990 think about these antics. I'm the first to say as I grew older, I have become accustomed to certain luxuries, but sheesh, I don't throw a tantrum when it doesn't go my way all the time.

And I just took a look at the setlist, records was not in the second act so it was awesome again :bag:

Also, they played 8 songs off the new album. Seemed like a lot

Would never make an excuse for him acting that way, but by way of explanation, I know the NYC shows are a big deal for the band and they are perfectionists about their shows anyway, especially Ed. You mentioned a broken guitar...any other issues with the show, even minor ones? The wine could've been the last straw. Again, not that it's ever cool to act that way.Have you seen them at MSG before? How did the vibe compare at Barclays? Setlist looks pretty amazing.

Yeah, that's pretty childish. WTF Ed.

Anyone here sing? No longer a kid, I rely on well placed drinks to keep MY pipes up to snuff. And I'm not kicking out 2+ hours worth of the stuff that Ed does. He most likely reeeally needed a good soaking going into Alive...

Tonights my first trip to Barclays- what was the place like?? Was it hot as hell in there or what??

I have been to MSG and the vibe at Barclays was great. The sound was insane for the first few songs. Acoustics were killer. I did notice a slight difference about half way through but still sounded great.

In terms of any other mishaps, the guitar was the only one I noticed outside of them starting Sirens and Eddie stopping them after a few chords.

Ed did break one of the swinging lamp things during Porch

Barclays was not too hot. I actually wore my jacket until the band came on. Very comfortable.

Glock> I don't know if you plan on driving in, but if you do, there was a ton of parking on Atlantic Ave. the meters are 2 hour meters and end at 7. If you park and leave your car at 5, you are set. 4 bucks for 2 hours.

Otherwise the trains roll up right on the Barclays. Can take the 2 or 3 from Penn station.

If he was drinking unfiltered wine, there might have been some sediment at the bottle of the bottle. Although, if he's drinking unfiltered wine in the first place, he probably likes the sediment. Ed likes his wine, so this situation is very perplexing. Is there somebody we can email? Isn't there some pay club?

Also, doesn't sound like a big deal to me at all. Dude wants his wine. The guy whose job it is to make sure he has it ####ed up. I imagine you're not always in the mood to go on stage in front of 20k people and keep your energy up for hours at a stretch, so that wine is probably a very important element Ed's regimen.

Sweet. Torn between the LIRR from Huntington>Jamaica>Atlantic Yards or driving. Did you hang anywhere pre-show? Or just roll in...?

Amazing setliat IMO. Other than Amsterdam, when's the last time they didn't play release #1?

(and channel Come Back for me... ;) )

Regarding the Ed tantrum, rumor is the bottle was filled with water; thus, he spit it out, spilled some on the stage, and pointedly asked for another bottle. Whether true or not, who knows.

Ed was p.o.'d at times, but that seemed to fuel the performance. Ferocious versions of DTE, Porch, RVM. Great set list, some rarities for the diehards (Release played 2nd, Oceans to open encore, and Chloe/Crowns (don't know if they've done that before) and a great performance!

ETA: Thought the new material went over well live. Not sure why they are not playing "Getaway" yet; odd to open the album with it and not play it.

Wish I was going tonight, but new rules on one show per venue put the kaibosh on that.

Ed throws mid show tantrums with some regularity. At a show in Boston I saw him hurl a wine bottle against the backdrop because his tech guy didn't clear his monitor fast enough from a tshirt or something a fan threw. He's got a temper.

WTF up in here said Evenflow was their "pee" song!? #### you!!

McCready just shredded the #### outa that!

Phish at the top of page one!? Not while I'm here at the Barclay, dammit!!11!!

Unbelievable Betterman...

Hellz ya, Urine Flow. Usually back for the solo. Always can hear from the concourse. If I hadn't seen it 20/23 times I'd probably stick around once in a while.

Very similar to the Buffalo show as far as the setlist goes.

Did they tag Betterman to end the set?

Finally something other than Porch/RVM ending S1/E1. That's been one of the discouraging things these days for me.

Next to him is another good friend of ours from Argentina, I don’t know his name but I see him at every other show.” Ed teases Dennis a little bit then talks about how all the members of the band have been at one point or another ‘broken’. But they usually get through it with the help of people that love them. You folks here in New York, Boston and New Jersey have always been great to us.” He talks about vases that when they get broken and are put back together the cracks are painted with gold leaf. The cracks and breaks are celebrated. “It is the people without any cracks that you have to watch out for.”)
20. Better Man/Save It For Later-(Charley, Cox, Morton, Steele, Wakeling)
Encore Break 1
(Upon returning from encore break Ed says, “I know it is Saturday night in the big city and all but does anybody have anyplace they have to go? No? Oh, this one guy right here says he has to go in fifteen minutes so I guess we will just play for fifteen more minutes and then be done?” The audience boos. “Well, I guess that by overwhelming majority we are gonna play all night so you can just go ahead and leave right now.”
He then says, “You can tell that this is a good crowd and they are taking care of each other because there was a young man down here in about the third row and he was doing all right. He had a little trouble seeing so we brought him up here.” Ed points towards the monitor desk where the young boy is sitting. “That is Hunter. Hunter is twelve years old...and my daughter is here and she is nine...hmm. Watch it Hunter. I will FIND YOU. This next song is for the kid in all of us.”

21. Footsteps
22. Yellow Moon-(from the new album “Lightning Bolt”)

(Introduces Boom Gaspar. “That was yesterdays this is Future Days”)
24. Future Days-(from the new album “Lightning Bolt”)
25. Do The Evolution
26. Go
27. Porch
(Ed creates mayhem on stage by pushing the light globes around. Stone displays cat like reflexes and avoids being bashed by a light. He remembers to stay down so the light doesn’t hit him on the way back. The other guys start pushing lights and Ed climbs on his and swings for a bit.)

Encore Break 2

Ed says, “If you got the time I got the wine. You guys make us look good in front of our friends and you get rid of our enemies because they want to like you and so on.”

28. Whipping
29. Blood
30. Leaving Here-(Holland/Dozier/Holland)
31. Black
32. Alive
33. Rockin’ In The Free World-(Young)
34. Yellow Ledbetter/Star Spangled Banne

Don't have my FIL on hand to mow my lawn- or help out with all these damn acorns (anyone else have a bumper crop of the sumbeeches this year!?) -aaand I gotta check in on my Jets now and then :bag: , so I hope to weigh in more on last nights show before the day is over. Got to digest that set list, too...

McCready's YLB/SSB was sick. Did I say that already?

Amazing setliat IMO. Other than Amsterdam, when's the last time they didn't play release #1?

Show One Set List

01. Pendulum-(from the new album Lightning Bolt)

02. Release

03. Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town

04. Lightning Bolt-(from the new album Lightning Bolt)

05. Corduroy

06. Mind Your Manners-(from the new album Lightning Bolt)

(Ed-listen to us, telling you to mind your manners, where are out manners? Good evening! Ed thanks the audience for coming and we should probably thank the people that built this place. We know one of them, Jay Z, so lets thanks Jay Z. We got 99 problems but a place to play aint one. He then introduces the next song)

07. Dissident

08. Why Go

09. Swallowed Whole-(from the new album Lightning Bolt)

10. I Am Mine

(We want to send that last song out to New Jersey. You have been through a lot in the last year with the floods and the fires. We were with you then and we are with you now. This next song is for Harper and Olivia. Its called Infallible.)

11. Infallible-(from the new album Lightning Bolt)

12. Given To Fly

(The band starts Sirens but Mikes 12 string acoustic isnt working so after a few chords the band stop playing. Ed says, That last little song didnt make the record but it came this close. It is going to be a b-side released in February on a record called Pearl Jams Greatest Misses. Ed looks over to Mike and asks, Does it work? okay!)

13. Sirens-(from the new album Lightning Bolt)

(There was some trouble with Eds 12 string acoustic during Sirens so before they go into the next song Ed says, I need to find out what happened to that guitar. While we wait I just want to talk about Mike, he not only can play and wrote that last song but I heard him backstage playing a song that I would like to hear. He can also do this.)

14. Eruption-(Van Halen)

15. Spin The Black Circle

(This next song was written by someone everybody up here knew. I never met him but I think about him a lot, a lot, a lot. His name was Andrew Wood.)

16. Chloe Dancer/Crown Of Thorns-(Mother Love Bone, A. Wood)

17. Save You

18. Let The Records Play-(from the new album Lightning Bolt)

(That song was about yesterday, this one is about the future.)

19. Do The Evolution

20. Rearviewmirror

Encore Break 1

(Ed goes to introduce the band but Mike was a few seconds late, he was waving to people in the back, So Ed says, Mike is up here yeah? Where is he? Is he over there? Mike then comes around and Ed says Youre freaking me out man, Youre freaking me out. Hey, I heard that you guys had glassy 3 foot waves recently? This is for all the East Coast surfers.)

21. Oceans

22. Yellow Moon-(from the new album Lightning Bolt)

(Ed asks the audience if they are comfortable. He starts to describe what the next song is about, changes his mind and then changes it back again. This song is about a man who, not only had to work 60 to 70 hours a week but he also had to wear a clip on tie...yeah, that should describe what this song means..)

23. Sleight Of Hand

24. Just Breathe

25. Daughter/Blitzkrieg Bop-(Ramones)

26. Got Some

27. Porch

(During Porch the globe lights come down from the light truss. They all get pushed by the band so they start swinging. Ed whacks one with his mic stand. He then jumps on the globe and Matts tech hands him his microphone so he can sing while swinging. When they leave the stage there are pieces of globe and knocked over mic stands)

Encore Break 2

(Ed talks to the audience and tells a guy up front with a sign saying he has been to 100 shows that Ed owes the guy a drink. He has another wine bottle brought up.)

28. Wasted Reprise

29. Life Wasted

30. Alive

31. Sonic Reducer-(Bators, Blitz, Chrome, Magnum, Thomas, Zero)

32. Indifference
It was a great show. The highlights for me was Crown of Thornes and then Alive going into Sonic Reducer.

Already at 29 30 songs tonight through 1st encore per the message board. Dang I really hate going to the first few shows of a tour.

Still puzzled by the mystery surrounding Getaway. So, I was thinking...

A. They debut it Thurs or Fri on Fallon, then it starts finding some shows.

B. They debut, and open with, it in Dallas to kick off leg 2, and continue to open with it ala Pendulum (although I don't think they'd do this EVERY night, maybe a 50/50 split between the two songs).

They did sound check Sleeping by Myself tonight, so Getaway can't be far off, I think....

edit: As far as the song counts go, I guess I should account for the east coast (NY, Phi, Bos) bias. But once they head further south down the coast we'll find out for sure. Have an open invitation for the Charlotte show but it doesn't look like I'm gonna pull it off.

Always wondered what the hype was about with Crazy Mary, well oh my. Pure shredding chaos with the guitar and keys. Great show!

Mother was unreal. Eddie had the crowd captivated. Very nice mix of old and new songs. Yellow Moon almost put me to sleep, only gripe whatsoever!

I thought it was great sandwiched between Footsteps and All Those Yesterdays...

then rolling on into Future Days, Evolution, Go and Porch.

Fantabulous sit/stand encore that was.

What is the deal with sound checks? It seems like folks are getting in to see them. How is that done?
I don't think anyone is really "getting in". Many times the box offices are inside the arena and 10C ticket pickups start in the afternoon. Sometimes you can even hear decently from outside the arena...and definitely at an outdoor venue.
