There were some pics of me standing in the merch line on pearljam.com. I guess they take those in concert threads down after the show. I was the bald guy. It was wierd checking the thread for sound check info and seeing my picture pop up.

Nice work, prosopis. The crowd around you can definitely make or break some concerts. Glad you scored. Can't believe that opening...I woulda been happy only seeing those first five. Everything after was gravy.

First beer. Getting on the surfliner soon to head downtown and meet-up for the show. Surprised nobody on here is going. TommygunZ is missing out, poor guy.

Seattle weather here today...perfect.

Hit the show last night, with the 12 year old daughter. What a night! Typical of LA shows when there are 2 shows, first night a more hits oriented show with the second night the "better" of the two in terms of deeper cuts. Hit the merch booth early, got tickets, and went to Hollywood to kill some time (kid wanted to see the Walk of Fame). Got back into the Arena about an hour before doors opened so we cruised around the perimeter. Found an entrance where we could walk up and listen to sound check. Garden, Marker in the Sand, and Don't give me no lip were the 3 we caught. Ended up being first in line on our side. I asked the kid if she wanted to get back to the car for a bit before the show since we had seats. She said NO! We are waiting in line since we are first. Good kid! We get into the arena and since we were first we hit the bathrooms and they were pristine and clean! BONUS, WINNING!. Get to our seats, Arena level 18 row 4 (Fan Club reserved seating option). Talking with some folks around us I ask them what are the seats below us? Reference point we are on Mike's side (winning) first section back (corner of the stage). Great sight lines, not too shabby. So I ask the usher what are those seats below us and she says Arena Risers and looks at my tickets. We are in Arena Risers 18, row 4. So now we move down about 20 rows. Our seats are at the head level of the GA pit people. No obstructed views there. Definitely winning now! We were in the 10C section, very low numbers too (mine is 71K) so we had PJ veterans around us, and we had crew members and celebs. Kenny Mayne was 3 rows behind us, Duff McKagan was 3 rows in front. Set List below During Corduroy Eddie booted someone out of the front GA section. After the song ended he took to the mic and just berated the person. There is a video on Youtube. Check it out. Classic in all sense. It seems like Matt Cameron is playing the songs a bit slower, giving the band more room to play within the song. I felt that he was speeding the songs up too much in the past. I will see how it goes in Oakland and Portland. We also got interviewed by The Rob on Pearl Jam XM radio after the show. Pearl Jam

So, after being a huge PJ fan since Ten came out when I was 13, I finally went to my first concert 11/23 at the Sports Arena in Los Angeles. I'm just not a big concert guy. The only other concert I've been to as an adult is my other favorite band, Counting Crows. It's amazing how much energy they still have on stage. From youtube videos of live performances in the early years, I'd say that they rock live just as much now as they did back then, they're just a little less reckless. That was really why I decided I had to see them now. It's the first time in four years they've come to L.A., and I thought it could be the last chance for me to see them performing at that same level. They went for nearly 3 hours. I feel old saying this, but it was SOOOOOO loud. From the first note, I was like wow I wish I could get them to turn it down. Perhaps part of it was that I was in a spot in the upper level but near the stage, in front off to the side, where one of the huge stage speakers was aimed right at me. A day later, my ears still feel off and my right ear feels like there is a faint alarm going off in the distance. Any of you frequent PJ concert goers had this issue?

I loved the setlist. I'd say they played 5 of favorite 6, only leaving out Faithfull, which I understand is very rare for them to play so that is expected. The 5 favorites they played were Black, Corduroy, Porch, Alive and Rearviewmirror. Also wish they would have done Hail, Hail. I was happy that they played Once, State of Love and Trust, I Got Id, Do the Evolution, Dissident, Given to Fly and Got Some. 22 years ago, I would have preferred them not play Jeremy but I enjoyed hearing it today. Eddie said something about the Sports Arena being the first big arena they ever played back in 1991, and it being with Red Hot Chili Peppers and Nirvana. Also gave credit to guys from Red Hot Chili Peppers for taking them under their wings. I'd say the highlight of the night was Porch to end the first encore. They brought down some swinging lanterns from the rafters and the band were shoving them above the audience and dodging them as they came back during an extended jam. Eddie got up on top of one and swung out on it over the crowd a little. It looked like crazy Eddie of old. He had someone throw him the mic and I think he was planning on finishing the song from up there, but then the lantern started getting lower and lower until it was touching the stage. Guess the Sports Arena didn't want that! Black was amazing with the "we belong together" at the end, and Eddie seemed to be impressed with the crowd's extended "do-do-doot-doot-do-do-do." Crowd was very into it the whole concert. Corduroy was the first song they really slayed, and then Rearviewmirror to end the regular set with an extended jam session. Black, Alive and Baba O'Riley was a killer trio at the end. They had everyone going at that point, so it was a bit of a downer when they slowed it back down to end with Indifference.

That girl was an idiot and, apparently, posted on the Ten Club forums. She's full of crap. She's claiming there was a 12 year old girl with her that she was trying to get up to the front to be with her mom. There was no little girl unless, by "little girl," she means the 40-year-old long-haired, squatty dude she was with.

My wife and I were in the Pit right in front of Eddie (three people back from the rail) and one person over from the girl and dude that got booted. The girl was super drunk (as were we all, but she was out of her mind). They pushed their way up to the front and then started elbowing people in the heads. The girl started laughing as she crashed right into the back of the guy next to me. I'm not agreeing with it, but he finally had enough and threw an elbow back at her and the very short, long haired dude she had with him. That's when Eddie took notice and started staring right at us all and playing directly above us. He looked so pissed as he was motioning to get the girl outta there. She kept going and wouldn't leave. Corduroy finished and Ed had the lights turned on and then berated the "young lady." He told Marcel "they weren't ####### around" and he wanted them both out of there. Marcel and another gigantic security guard came over and damn near knocked me over on the way to getting those two clowns out of the area and off to the side (they were on the side and watched from there). I actually think it gave Ed and the band even more energy.

I didn't see what happened, but a song or two later another guy got pulled over the rail. He looked completely out of it to me, and I don't think he was trying to start a fight. I think he might have just passed out or was about to pass out. Ed looked out after that, shrugged his shoulders and said, "wow, this is a tough area right down here."

It was a great show. I came very close to going back last night, but decided not to (not necessarily my choice).

anyone going to tomorrow nights Oakland show? I was not planning on it but now football ended earlier than expected and I'm jonesing to go...

Too bad that lady in LA had to be a db. Very rare occurrence at PJ shows in my experience. One guy wearing a Red Sox cap was losing his mind at the Charlotte show and had to be subdued by security, then later I found out the Sox won the WS during the show. Understandable I guess, Sox fans are cretins.

I didn't see anyone post about the SD show. Absolutely amazing show. Other than the 10th anniversary in Vegas, this was my favorite show I've seen. Here's the setlist posted in the pearljam.com forums.

Pearl Jam
Viejas Arena
San Diego, CA
Nov. 21, 2013

Set List

01. Pendulum-from the new album “Lightning Bolt”
02. Nothingman
03. Sometimes
04. Why Go
05. Lightning Bolt-from the new album “Lightning Bolt”
06. Mind Your Manners from the new album “Lightning Bolt”
07. All Night

(“A lot of people say this and mean it but it is special for us ‘cuz I am a semi local boy so it is great to be here in San Diego. Traffic still sucks. It was a perfect Seattle day.” Ed compliments the venue and notes that his brother Chris is a spot operator tonight. “This is for Chris.”)

08. Given To Fly

(Stone starts to play “In Hiding” and Ed stops him saying, “I was gonna try and sneak another one in before that because it is appropriate for here.”)

09. Tremor Christ
10. In Hiding

(Ed asks if Rob and his wife from Manilla are at the show tonight and plan on going to LA as well. Ed asks them to come up to the stage and hang out on the side because he wants to meet and talk to them. Ed then talks about an out of body experience he had in New Orleans.)

11. Setting Forth
12. Swallowed Whole-from the new album “Lightning Bolt”

(We would like to dedicate this one to all the local heroes form Camp Pendleton and Point Loma. It is called Army Reserve.”

13. Army Reserve
14. Even Flow

(“A lot of our folks are here tonight, Matt’s Mother sister and brother, All three of my brothers are here. Mike McCready’s pop is here with his buddy. It is almost like they are showing off for their parents but they are like that every night. In fact they may have been holding back so they didn’t freak their folks out. Mike’s dad thinking, ‘my sons a monster!!” This song ties into San Diego. Here they make (planes?) and this is about planes that drop bombs)

15. Insignificance

(“Before we do the next song can I ask if our new friend Rob is in the house? C’mon up here. Someone turned me on to this really nice story about Rob who has been listening to us for about 21 years. We played (Manilla) in ’95 and you missed that. We have great memories of playing there. We are gonna see you in LA but we are going to give you a check to take back so you can help out. We thought we could save the postage and give you 100% of the money…Now I hear you had a child and you named him?
Rob says, “Eddie, we named him Eddie.” Ed says, “Well Cameron is a much better name but anyway.” Ed gives Rob a bottle of wine.)

16. Sirens (with sing along outro)-from the new album “Lightning Bolt”
17. Better Man/Save It For Later-(Charley, Cox, Morton, Steele, Wakeling)

(“I wanna dedicate this to the last man standing..Lou’s Records, where I bought all my records, there still going, Lou’s Records.”

18. Spin The Black Circle-(during song Ed tells some people to settle down. They must have calmed down because he then says “you got it. that’s good.”)
19. Light Years (“this is for Ryan, Kelly and Lacey…you are all here)
20. Porch (during the song Mike beats one of the globes with his guitar (a 1959 Les Paul TV Junior for you collectors out there) until chunks of the globe break off.)

Encore Break 1

(Ed says he sees a lot of the same faces from San Diego from back when he lived here. Someone in the front say they are from Tijuana which cause Ed to ask if “Iguana’s” is still there? It is. “scary place. great place to see a show but scary.” He reminisces about San Diego. He ends by noting that he wrote this song here and about having to wear a tie.

21. Sleight Of Hand
22. Speed Of Sound

(Ed talks about their friend and former crew member who now works for Neil Young and managed to live and work in San Diego. Ed says this next song if for all the great couples)

23. Just Breathe

(“We have played every song from the new album except this one. I am just letting you know that we are going to experiment and try this one out……I don’t know how to start it..”)

24. Sleeping By Myself–from the new album “Lightning Bolt”

(when the song is over Ed plays the Ukulele trying to remember how to play the song. “See now I remember it…”) He plays for a bit and says, “I just had to figure it out. If this wasn’t my favorite one (ukulele) I would smash it for effect.

This next song is about responsible drug use which I think you can do.”)

25. Severed Hand
26. In My Tree
27. Rearviewmirror

Encore Break 2

(“I hear the surf is gonna be ####ty anyway so we may as well stay. I mean we are on a college campus and I would like advantage of that..” Ed points his mom out in the audience and asks the audience to pass a wine bottle over to her. Ed also wants to mention a friend of Stone’s named Camille and another friend of theirs Gloria Steinem. “This is for all the great woman here. It is called “Leaving Here.”

28. Leaving Here-(Holland, Holland, Dozier)
29. Black
30. Do The Evolution
31. Alive
32. Baba O’Riley-(Townshend)

(Ed jokes about playing the next show’s set list so they can keep playing. He then says he wants to be serious and he tells Rob (from the Philippines) that they want to give him a check in his families name. “it is couple of bucks for each person here so it is about $25,000 it isn’t much..” Ed goes on to talk about other ways people can donate and help and talks about some locals who are putting on a food drive. Lastly he mentions Mike’s father being here along with his friend. They were shot down in the Gulf of Tonkin and they want to play this song for them.

33. Yellow Ledbetter/Star Spangled Banner
34. Rockin’ In The Free World w/ Ray Cameron on guitar-(Young)

Set List

01. Pendulum

02. Nothingman

03. Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town

04. Why Go

05. Hail Hail

06. Lightning Bolt-(from the new album “Lightning Bolt”)

07. Mind Your Manners-(from the new album “Lightning Bolt”)

08. Dissident

(Ed has the house lights turned up and comments that he recognizes many of the faces. Including a woman from Brazil who hands a sign to Eddie that says she was robbed while inside the building, (possibly just on the property it is unclear to me). She lost everything including her passport. Some fans helped her out in an unspecified manner and asked Ed to play “Faithfull” to thank those that helped her.)

09. Faithfull

10. Setting Forth

11. Corduroy

12. Even Flow

(Ed compliments Matt and Mike. The next song is about treasuring the things you love.

He goes onto talk about how it is incomprehensible that Cheney and his daughter don’t support same sex marriage even though the other daughter/sister is homosexual. Cheney’s wife’s plea to keep the matter private infuriates Ed because Cheney was the Vice President. He also thinks Cheney should be reminded every day that we are still cleaning up the mess his administration created. Lastly he suggests **** Cheney take homosexuality one step further and make it single sex so Cheney can go #### himself.)

13. Sirens w/sing along outro-(from the new album “Lightning Bolt”)

19. Better Man/Save It For Later-(Charley, Cox, Morton, Steele, Wakeling)

Encore Break 1

(Ed says he doesn’t know what day it is and isn’t supposed to because he plays in a rock and roll band but he knows it isn’t Sunday because the crowd is too good. He talks about all the friends they have here and that they don’t play here very often.)

20. After Hours-(Reed)

(Thanks Lou. Thank you Lou. We miss you Lou)

21. Yellow Moon-(from the new album “Lightning Bolt”)

(the band except for Matt all go and play to a riser on the side of the stage that has a bunch of people from Bridge School. The band stands on top of some empty trunks so they are the same level as the riser)

22. Last Kiss-(Cochran)

23. Just Breathe

24. Thin Air

25. Given To Fly

26. (Untitled)-prelude to MFC

27. MFC

28. Big Wave

29. Do The Evolution

30. New World w/John Doe-(Cervenka, Doe)

31. Porch

Encore

(Ed thinks the first time they played San Francisco was Sept 1991. It was the I-Beam.

The crowd probably came to see Screaming Trees or Alice In Chains not Mookie Blaylock.)

34. Black

35. Alive

36. ####### Up-(Young)

fml, after getting lost on a 4.5 mile hill run that turned in to a 8 mile hill run followed by waiting around for 2 hours for 2 more people that got lost I was too beat to go. Farkkkk that show would have been epic.

See? Now that's why I gave up running...

I'm jealous, that is as close to my perfect setlist as I've ever seen. First time ever seen them do my 3 faves -- Faithfull, Black and Corduroy, and also did a couple others I love that don't do regularly in Hail Hail and Nothingman. Did Smile and State of Love and Trust too.
