Still recovering from Memphis. As usual, I'm spent and could never put everything into words, but a cool little anecdote...In line for merch around 11:30AM, I'm chatting with some folks around me and Wash keeps playing in my head. I couldn't recall hearing it recently so I jokingly told everyone they're gonna play it. Back at the hotel I told my wife and our friends the same. I'm not superstitious or anything, but I swear the song wouldn't leave my head all day, and I became fully convinced they would play it. Absolutely lost my mind when those opening chords played! And a cool thing to talk about over drinks afterward.
Overall I enjoyed the show a lot. Not a top 5 but maybe around top 10-15 all time for me. I didn't get many of my personal favorites, but enjoyed a lot of the rarer songs like Garden, Alone, 1/2 Full, and Breath. Thought the Porch jam was awesome, and love those light globes swinging around. A lot of my favorite songs are on Vitalogy, No Code, Avocado and Backspacer and obviously those were under-represented. Seemed like Eddie wanted to pay tribute to Krusen since he was there. I was also really bummed that they didn't do their little acoustic set coming out of the first encore break. Ed's voice was hurting so he put a lot of singalongs and extended jams in the set. Mike was a man possessed as always, and in fact seemed more energetic than usual.
That these guys can still play at this level in their late 40's just blows me away. They only seem to be getting better in many ways, in how they put together an overall show. They continue to fire on all cylinders, and to surprise, and to evoke maximum emotion from the crowd. No band comes close to these guys in concert IMO.
Agree that the venue acoustics were not great, but the video was unbelievable. We had great seats but I found myself watching the screen a lot.
First time in Memphis for everyone, and we had a blast. Wife and I will definitely be back.
