Domination

Footballguy
It was another rough opening day loss, but I have faith. They have the hitters to match just about anyone, and the starting pitching shold be able to keep them in any game.

Hopefully the bullpen does get too much work.

Either way, the METS, and Braves both suck, so get ready to crown them....

NL East Champions

You can also use this thread to predict the exact date of the franchise's 10,000th loss, which will certainly come this season and culminate more than a century of futility.

The Phillies are going to be heart breakers again this year. Charlie Manuel screwed up again yesterday by leaving Brett Myers in longer than he should have and ruined what was otherwise a pretty good outing by Myers. He looks a lot better than last year after dropping 25 or 30 pounds and had good command of his pitches.

Without any additions the bullpen is going to be a liability yet again. Gordon is no spring chicken and Pat Gillick and Manuel have both commented about how they are going to cut back his appearences and try not to use him up. That's a great plan and all but then who is going to get those extra innings? Smith? Geary? I just don't see it. Especially now with Garcia on the mend with a sore arm and a discruntled Lieber in the bullpen.

And please, PLEASE do not get me started on Pat Burrell.

They have a horrible bullpen which will be their demise (See Atlanta last year).MetsBravesMarlinsPhillies
The Marlins ahead of them is pushing it a bit too far.
Is it?Predicting 1st place is a bigger push than predicting 4th place.
I don't think so. I think it's going to be a pretty exciting three team race for most of the season unless one or more of the teams has a pretty catastrophic injury.

:towelwave: Did you like how Bobby Cox schooled him in the bottom of the 7th by purposely walking Myers to lead off the inning? Then Myers has to run from first to third on Rollins' double then proceed to stand out there for three more batters as they leave him stranded on third. Plan executed perfectly, Cox must have been laughing his ### off. Myers had no business batting after throwing 7 innings and he should've been pinch run for after he walked. That's loss number 1 because of the manager. :bye:

Agree 100% and that is why Cox is a top tier manager and Manuel is not. Even though Myers looked strong the next inning after being out on the bases he was in the 100 to 105 pitch count range. The ball Renteria hit over the center field wall was an 0-2 pitch. That pitch should have been nowhere near the strike zone but with his pitch count getting high and the crowd cheering for him to finish him off he went back to the well one time to many and Renteria made him pay. I know Myers is a stud but asking a guy to come out on opening day and throw that many pitches is ridiculous. He should have been pulled at about 90 pitches or so.

I'm predicting May 25.
:goodposting: May 25th?! That's only like the 50th game of the season, you expect them to be 5-45?!?!?

I don't think they're that bad! ;)

I'm predicting loss number 10,000 on July 4th at Houston.

The Phillies will be fine once their hitting comes around, and it WILL come around. If they can keep getting starting pitching like they got the first two games they'll be just fine.

Honestly, as a Braves fan, I'm more worried by what they've shown me than what I think Phillies fans should be about their team.

The thing is that this is what they've done the last several years. Get off to a lousy start and they always end up just a couple games short.

and its the big guy who aren't doing the job
FIXED
chase hasn't exactly been raking either, let's see what he can do here....good AB but whiffBut as good as people make this lineup out to be it isn't nearly as good after Howard. Burrell is Burrell, Helms is a decent hitter, Rowand is brutal at the plate, I like Ruiz but hes not a difference maker, and the pitchers spot.

Bottom line is this team just strikes out way too much and the situational hitting is absolute brutal...you watch guys on the mets like loduca who can hit a ball to the right side when need be, the phillies only strike out when need be

is that the MVP???

Edit to add......if the phillies win this game, I'm sure randolph will be questioned on why to pitch to howard, but that said, I will agree with the move, the man was ice cold

it still looks to me like he is trying to pull everything, maybe because hes in a funk, but the best thing for us will be to see him hit a couple out to left and left center, that is when he will get hot.

:goodposting: He's looked awful up there until that swing

who do you guys think will be sent down when they activate Garcia? I'm hoping its Madson, however my gut says Condrey. I'm not sure on the options of either player

I thought they would just send that spot starter, Zach Segovia (sp) back down.

they sent down segovia and bisensius today and activated lieber and rosario (who they acquired in a trade last week)

That's very doubtful to happen. However, Condrey has to be out of options by now.

Good ol' Chollie, still not knowing how to use the double switch.

What a complete fool. He should be fired today.

he is a bozo but i agree not to double switch there, the only two guys you could have taken out are nunez or rowand who are both superior defensive players as compared to helms or werth

Phew, our bullpen is brilliant. Walk Julio Franco on four pitches. Can't believe they're blowing this game. Well not really.

Good thing he left Geary in to bat leadoff. That worked out pretty well. He could've double switched Barajas for Ruiz when he pulled Cole. Gillick has to do something, ANYTHING to shake this mess up. The only thing we can hope for is a sweep by NY and Cholly's firing.

has aaron rowand ever made a good throw, I can not stand him, he has no arm, his defense is horribly overrated because his range is limited....he made one great catch and it is like he gets a pass in this city....victorino is clearly a better player in ALL aspects
