Very young team with talent but also some major flaws. No one can hit right now and sloppy fielding. Not sure they're making the playoffs but this year was progress...no matter how excruciatingly difficult it will be to watch them.Insein said:I'm starting to get worried.
I mostly like what Kapler has done. However I think he has the Charlie Manuel flaw right now where he sticks with guys too long out of loyalty or something. Odubel needs to sit for Quinn and Santana needs to play less games in favor of Bour.Very young team with talent but also some major flaws. No one can hit right now and sloppy fielding. One thing they messed up was leaving Kingery up here all season long. He wasn't ready.
They need to clean up the defense. They're on pace statistically to be the worst fielding baseball team ever I think. Whether it is due to Gabe's shifting or just blunder after blunder that can't keep up. If anything, it is actually kind of impressive they've been able to hang in the race this long with such inept fielding.I think it's over. We we're waiting all year for the young players to hit the wall and come back in down to level. Well here we are.
So in hindsight now, I'm glad we didn't give up anything for Machado. This team wasn't ready yet. Next year though and especially this off-season should be fun.
I'll still be keeping track of course. It's just that the Eagles start soon and everything else that fall brings. Maybe they can have a miraculous turnaround and win the last 7 matchups against Atlanta. Doubtful though the way they're playing.
Worst defense and below average hitting combined with subpar back rotation. That's a recipe for success some how. They need to clean up the defense. it's not all that surprising. At the trade deadline (or AS break?), their run differential was pretty weak compared to their record. I think that Fangraphs had them projected for 83-85 wins at that point.Insein said:It's just comical now. The games they somehow pulled out in May and June, they are finding ways to blow now in spectacular ways.
Probably accurate. Reverting to the mean.it's not all that surprising. At the trade deadline (or AS break?), their run differential was pretty weak compared to their record. I think that Fangraphs had them projected for 83-85 wins at that point.
Does Harper want to go to Philly? I hadn’t heard that rumor.Probably accurate. Reverting to the mean.
Still a pretty good year considering but man it hurts more when they were 14 games over .500 at one point. Oh well. Get Bryce Harper this off-season and watch that lineup transform.
He will if they pay him the most money. Phils majority owner is going full Steinbrenner. $500m contract definitely on the table.Does Harper want to go to Philly? I hadn’t heard that rumor.
And this isn’t over - my team (Braves) are playing well but still young and the bullpen is shaky. Getting Gausman has been huge so far - but still a lot of games left.
I think Harper will go where there is a big Mormon population.AAABatteries said:Does Harper want to go to Philly? I hadn’t heard that rumor.

sorry, I dropped a mirror when Howard tore his achilles. We are almost out of the 7 years of bad luck!It doesn't have to make sense as long as we're one game better than the Braves at the end. At least September baseball is exciting for the first time in 7 years. God has it been that long?
or Soto for that matterwhy don't we have Acuna? Life isn't fair.
yeah, for sure, just acuna sticking it to me because he is hurting us right now...or Soto for that matter
Well no worries there. The Phillies are trying to become the first NL team in history to make the postseason with a team batting average under .240 (currently .237)
Woof.
Yea. I want to be positive and think this. So I will. I mean Eagles won the super bowl out of no where. Why can't the Phils make the playoffs out of no where.AAABatteries said:Still not over - Those 7 games mean that it probably won't be over until the first series at the earliest. And from now until then I think the Phillies have an easier scheduled (@NYM, Was, Mia, NYM) vs. Atlanta (@Ari, @SF, Was, Stl). The Washington series is a wash so then you have those other nine games where Philly has a decided advantage. I could see the lead being basically gone and those games deciding the division winner.
so you're saying there's a chance...Well, if they sweep the Marlins and take 2 out 3 from the Mets and then the Braves lose to the Nats and Cardinals 4 or 5 times, we'll be within like 4 games.
5 tool player for the Redos this year.In other news, Domonic Brown is currently playing for the Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos of the Mexican League.
Phillies, Mariners In Agreement On Jean Segura Trade
By Mark Polishuk | December 2, 2018 at 10:40pm CDT
10:40pm: Segura is expected to waive his no-trade clause to accommodate the trade, MLB.com’s Jon Paul Morosi reports (Twitter link).
9:59pm: The two teams have agreed to the trade “in principle,” USA Today’s Bob Nightengale tweets. The deal will be announced on Monday, and Crawford will be part of the return going to Seattle. There has been speculation that Carlos Santana could be sent to the M’s in order to balance out the money involved in the deal, as per Fancred’s Jon Heyman, though the “Mariners may be resistant to that.” Santana’s involvement would add an entirely new aspect to this trade, as the first baseman is owed $35MM over the next two years. The Mariners did take Jay Bruce and Anthony Swarzak back from the Mets to help offset Cano’s salary, however.
9:10pm: The Phillies and Mariners are “in serious talks” about a trade that would send shortstop Jean Segura to Philadelphia, The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reports (Twitter link). Segura would have to waive his no-trade clause to allow the move. Rosenthal writes that the M’s “have [their] next deal lined up” after the trade of Robinson Canoand Edwin Diaz becomes official, and since that deal could be finalized by Monday, it hints at a possible timeline about any potential Segura movement. Yesterday, Rosenthal reported that Seattle had interest in top Phillies prospect J.P. Crawford as a potential piece of the return for Segura.
Segura was first linked to the Phillies last week, and he has been a popular figure in trade rumors ever since the Mariners shifted into payroll-cutting mode. The Yankees also had some interest in Segura, while the Padres and Mariners discussed a potential blockbuster that would’ve sent Segura and Mike Leake to San Diego in exchange for Wil Myers. With a .308/.353/.449 slash line and 41 homers over the last three seasons, it isn’t surprising that Segura is generating such interest. He doesn’t turn 29 until March, and he is controlled through the 2022 season on a contract that will pay him $58MM over those four seasons (including a $1MM buyout of a $17MM club option for 2023).
Shortstop was a major problem area for the Phillies last season, as Crawford hasn’t shown much in limited MLB action, and super-utilityman Scott Kingery also didn’t produce at the position in his first big league season. Manny Machado has been widely speculated to be a top target for the Phillies this winter, though in the event of a Segura trade, Machado would be pursued as a third baseman while Segura handled shortstop.
Dealing Segura would be the latest move in a rather stunning roster overhaul orchestrated by Mariners GM Jerry Dipoto, who has already traded James Paxton, Mike Zunino, Alex Colome, and (all but officially) Cano and Diaz in less than four weeks’ time. Leake and Kyle Seager are also being shopped as Dipoto looks to move as many long-term commitments as possible to reposition the M’s for a return to contention in 2020 or 2021. These deals have already netted the Mariners a significant amount of young talent to help their thin farm system, and even more could be on the way via the Segura deal, or if Dipoto considered moving more controllable talent like Mitch Haniger or Marco Gonzales. Crawford, for instance, has been a consensus top-16 prospect in the sport (as per Baseball America and Baseball America) in each of the last three seasons, though his relative lack of success at the Triple-A level has somewhat dimmed his stock.
