I'm picking #5 in two of my three high-stakes leagues (third hasn't drawn draft order yet.) The scoring systems/lineup configurations are quite different, so very different strategies are involved. I'll throw them both out there since they should represent close to both ends of the fantasy scoring spectrum and most of your leagues, fellow #5 pickers, should fall somewhere in between.
League 1 - TD heavy. Start 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR/TE, no flex, no TE required. All TDs 6 pts, passing yards 1/50 yds, 1/20 rushing, 1/15 receiving, no PPR. With it being kind of TD heavy and with 6 pt/TDs, QBs go early and often. Last year, Rodgers, Brees, and Peyton were the top 3 picks before Peterson went 4th. I suspect that 2-3 QBs could go in the first 4 picks.
League 2 - more conventional FBG-type scoring. Start 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 RB/WR/TE flex. Passing TDs 5 pts/rest are 6 pts. 1/25 yds passing, 1 pt/10 yds rush/rec. 1 PPR.
In league 1, I'm preparing for two eventualities. One is that ADP, McCoy, and Charles go in the top 4, likely along with Manning. That leaves me with the options of Brees (highest VBD score by a decent margin), Calvin Johnson (with no TE required, he's the only real non-QB/RB choice) or the choice of Forte/Lynch/Lacy. The other is that 2-3 QBs go in the top 4 and I'm left with Peterson and possibly Shady on the board along with Calvin. In this scenario, I almost certainly go RB.
So, the first scenario is better for discussion. Do you take Brees, who represents the greatest week-to-week edge of anyone on the board? Do you take Calvin, who has the second highest VBD score? Or do you throw VBD out the window and grab one of the few almost-guaranteed 10+ TD backs? Having a Lacy or Lynch is big in this league with TDs at such a premium.
In League 2, it's fairly certain that Charles, McCoy, and Peterson are going 1-2-3. The guy drafting 4th is a bit of a wildcard, he could take anyone. So, for the sake of argument, let's assume that Forte, Johnson, Graham, and all the QBs are available. I'm very unlikely to take Manning here. Is Forte a no-brainer in this scenario? If he goes #4, do you go with Calvin, Graham, or go to the next RB, maybe Lacy in a PPR format?
