I've only owned xboxes. Can somebody break down why everyone's switching to the PS4?
Better graphics, cheaper, no DRM, no always-online, no kinect required. Only advantage xbox has is a better multi-player system.
And better exclusive/first offering. The only advantage is the one the majority of gamers care about. Although has PS4 stated anything about their network? Maybe it's better.
I think you may be the only person who thinks that one console's launch or near-launch lineup is clearly superior to the other's. Obviously if you saw something during Microsoft's conference that struck your fancy, great. But I don't think I've seen anybody else making the argument that anybody has "won" the exclusive lineup contest this time around.
YMMV. Not sure how they swayed BF to offer DLC first. Titanfall looked fun. COD- to those who care always catered to Xbox.

I agree on Titanfall. My understanding is that the Battlefield thing is that the XB1 gets one map pack a little early. Big deal.

Can't say I agree with exclusive or first titles. The Division looks better than anything MS is offering IMO... but everyone is going to have their own opinion on that. The Show is better than any sports title XBox offers.

I don't think anyone knows what the new PS4 network will be like. If it is better, than there really isn't a good reason to buy an xbox unless you're a big Halo/COD fan.

Did not know that.

Kingdom Hearts III

Final Fantasy XV

DriveClub

The Order

Transistor

Infamous: Second Son

Those are all PS4 exclusives I believe.

The Show is going to be mindblowing on PS4. It already is a triumph on PS3.

I am super stoked for Star Wars Battlefront with the Frostbite engine....holy crap that game will be insane. And the MP shoul dbe amazing as well.

I will be going next gen with a Playstation. I have been a PS guy since it's debut way back when. I do own the original XBOX and it is a good console....but PS has been my go to console for a long time.

I don't see myself picking up PS4 at launch though. I have a plethoria of titles I have to conquer on my PS3. Once I get through all of them and play the crap out of them, I will be ready for a PS4 which will probably be next holiday season (2014) when it will go for a little less (not that $$$ is an issue...but I like to wait to save a little jingle).

I also have learned from the PS2 launch....wait a dev cycle or even two. By the third cycle they will have really found their wheelhouse with the new game engines for their respective games and the power of the new consoles. I would imagine Madden 2015 will much better than the debut launch version. Same for The Show and NBA2K series.

I am a sports gamer first and foremost so waiting will be to my benefit. I can catch up to other great non sports games for a fraction of the price after they are out for a few years. I did the same thing with the PS3. i did not get it until August of 2009. It was a great decision.

But I am looking forward to the PS4 big time.....and who knows....I may get so blown away by the RPG's I may cave.

Also Killzone 4 and Beyond: Two Souls.

Although IMO Sony is kind of wasting Killzone by putting it up head-to-head against COD and Battlefield. Good luck with that.

Edit: B:TS is for the PS3, not PS4. My bad.

For me, Gears is the one that's going to be tough to get over (much moreso than Halo). I've gotta have nearly 2000 hours in all those games combined. That's a lot to give up for my tastes, but Sony sure is making it tempting.

Well that, and the controller.

Once i saw Ubisoft made it, I knew it was for both consoles. I dont think Ubisoft has ever made an exclusive game for either platform.

So, I just got used to my XBox 360 and I am going to have to go back to Playstation at some point?

Sheesh. I may just go back to PC games. Less stress.

PS4 has Naughty Dog which to me is the best third party developer right now. In fact, I'm trying to find a PS3 cheap in order to play The Last Of Us which is supposed to be phenomenal.

Does anyone know if they explained the 'cloud' service and what its supposed to do? Sorry if this has been covered...

I just got a PS3 last December. Gonna ride this one for awhile. I should be in for some nice price drops I would hope.

I kind of suspected this would be the case, but it turns out that the version of DriveClub that will be free with PS+ at launch is a stripped-down version of the title. From what I can gather, it's the online part only, not the SP part.

Not the biggest deal in the world since free is free, but I hope there's some sort of option to buy the SP component separately without having to buy the whole game.

Edit: Actually, it sounds like you're limited to certain cars and tracks, which pushes it a little more in the "demo" direction.

Okay, I have a Nintendo Wii now and never had a PS3 or an Xbox (did have a PS2 way back in the day). I'm not big into the online fight games, but online racing games are awesome (Mario Kart).

What exactly can the PS4 do?

Act as a dvd player? Is it any good for this?

Act as modem to browse the internet via the TV?

Can it connect to a wireless internet network?

:noob:

Both new consoles (PS4 and XB1) can play dvds, including blu-rays. The PS3 was an excellent BR player, and I assume both of the next-gen consoles will be as well.

You can browse the web through the console, but I very rarely do this on the PS3 (like almost never). Web pages weren't designed to be read on a television. You can do things like Netflix very easily through apps. Consoles are probably more similar to smartphones when it comes to internet activities IMO.

Both consoles can do wireless.

I friend of mine always used the Media Server function pretty heavily to stream content from his PC as well.

My bad. I guess the answer is a qualified "yes" in that it will be a streaming service for PS3 titles.
So based on that, some PS3 titles will be available, but you won't be able to play any PS3 games you own on your PS4. You'll have to re-purchase them?
that link says the games use different architecture or whatever so they can only be played on next gen with a digital means.
Good info here. Since I never had a PS3, that isn't a big deal at all. I would be able to download all of the exclusives I missed. Cool.

Unfortunately we wont be able to download at all these games, it will be streamed to us. Not sure how much they will charge for the streaming since you are not actually downloading anything to your hard drive.

Ah I see. I'll be in wait and see mode then.

Haha, not really, it took me an entire afternoon a couple weeks ago to get my Mass Effect 2 to even run on my PC. I was ready to break the damn thing after a couple hours.

They won't be charging anything as far as I can tell. You'll just have to have the original disc in your drive.

Have they said anything to support that view?

FWIW, I think the quality of bluray playback on the PS3 is great, but the controls suck. Even with the official remote. Making it bluetooth so that I couldn't use my Harmony remote without workarounds is dumb.

Yes but I can't remember where I saw it.

This is the truth. I have the "official" remote someplace, but I quit using it because it just didn't work half the time. Now I just use a DS as a remote, which is far from intuitive. It's fine for just playing and pausing, but rewinding or doing anything else cute is a PITA.

Never had a problem with my remote and find it really easy to use to turn on stuff like subtitles without having to go through the disc menu.

I know how much you liked Mario Kart on the Wii. Here's the new one: Two words. ANTI-GRAVITY
