***Official*** Playstation 4 Thread (1 Viewer)

Amazon is now sold out of launch-guaranteed PS4s.
Awesome I've pre-ordered two but for some reason was chicken #### to preorder more.
You going to try to flip them? Do you think there will be a market ?
cant hurt if you order fro amazon. I shoulda snagged some.
I was able to preorder 3 for launch day. And yes I'm going to try and flip them.

Or I'll make a video like this guy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8sjhjFOw4Ok

I'm all in on PS4. Should've pulled the trigger a couple days ago. Now I'm going to have to wait like the rest of the suckers. :(

I think all they've said is "holiday season" so far. But I'm SURE it will be out before Christmas. I would guess both consoles would launch within a couple week window in November.

It looks like Best Buy online still has them.
Thanks for the heads-up... just pre-ordered it with another controller and COD:Ghosts (if it's like MW3, I'm gonna puke...I hated that version and I know that this same group that did MW3 has done Ghosts)...

I preordered one for me and my kid(he's 10) also preordered one. I havent played a PS since the PSone, but didnt like some of the crap about the xbone.

just posting to increase the thread count and make it easier to find.

It's ironic because the XBox guys are the Macfanboys of the console market. Microsoft owners take it personally when you slag their system.

Looks like the PS4 will be region free so you could play games imported from other countries. XB1 is region locked

You sure about that? I think they changed it.
Says right here, unless there is proof that they changed ithttp://m.ign.com/articles/2013/06/11/playstation-4-is-region-free
Yep MS confirmed its region free.
I just read the report. I think it's too little too late with this announcement.

What's the point of regions?
I am too lazy to type this out in my own words so let me just cut and paste the important parts.

Regional restrictions began in 1997, as DVD technology was rolling out. They have nothing to do with the NTSC and PAL formats that made some foreign videos incompatible with American TVs. Those barriers resulted from different technical standards and are largely irrelevant when it comes to HD media formats.

Region codes are digital fences that divide the world into six pieces, erected by the US-based DVD Copy Control Association to protect publishers and distributors. If a film comes out on DVD in Canada in March but won’t hit French theaters until July, the French distributor can be reasonably sure that his box-office take and DVD profits won’t be eroded by a flood of Canadian discs.

“The codes were developed at a time when people were largely on dialup,” says film and TV producer David Kittredge. “Nobody really thought to download a full movie in 1997. And there were still a lot of rolling release dates.”

But movies premieres are far less staggered now, and regionless DVD players, which used to be prohibitively expensive, can be had for $75. Studios went with a simpler three-region approach for Blu-ray, but even that may be largely symbolic. By some estimates, nearly 70 percent of Blu-ray discs carry no code at all.

Then why bother? We asked Universal, Fox, Paramount, Warner Bros., and Sony and got a collective “no comment.” Screen Digest analyst Tom Adams says there’s a reason for that defensive posturing, however toothless. “Whether or not the codes are there,” he says, “the idea that they are is probably a good thing from the studios’ point of view.”

As downloads replace discs, a consortium of studios, manufacturers, and retailers is backing UltraViolet, a digital-rights system that would let people play a purchased file on up to 12 devices. Region codes may be dying, but they won’t vanish completely until there’s something to take their place.

Thanks.

So now that more people are DL'ing HD/bluray content, is there a place where we can see who's selling which titles for cheaper? Or is price pretty consistent in the cloud?

Sony's website and Amazon both show an expected ship date of 12/31/13 on pre-orders. If it drops on 11/21 as reported, does anyone know if that 12/31 date would shift or would I be getting it later than the release date? I'm interested in buying a couple to flip, but if I don't get it before Christmas and more than a month after the release date then that kind of goes out the window.

If you order from Amazon and select release date delivery you will get it on the release date, whatever date that ends up being.

Will the PS4 have the ability to be controlled via a universal remote without the need for a work around?

There is no chance in hell either company will miss Black Friday.
But Black Friday is for discounts.

What retailer would discount a week old console?

eta, nevermind, I get what you're saying.

Anyone know?
I believe it uses the new bluetooth standard which means that most universal remotes won't work.

If they wanted to, they could make their own smartphone app though to allow smartphones and tablets to control media playback. That would be pretty awesome.
This sucks
