Not the results I wanted but I hope he does a good job and is a good President.  I have my doubts that he can be given his campaign but he is going to be the President and I hope he succeeds as we could use a good one.

I think when historians looks back on this, they will focus on the free trade issue.  In the long term, public sentiment on free trade goes back and forth.  Free trade surged in the late 1800s / early 1900s.  Then there was a backlash.  Free trade got curtailed, tensions rose, and eventually WWI broke out.  After WW2, free trade started to make a return.  It peaked in the 1990s./early 2000s.  After that, you had a backlash regarding free trade.  The Greek economic crisis, economic isolation of Russia, Brexit, and now Donald Trump wins the white house by demonizing free trade.

Historians are probably looking at how free trade is going downhill as a possible prelude to the next big war.  If that actually happens, this election will be pointed to as a major turning point leading to it.
This was a vote against the establishment. People are sick and tired of being told what to think. The DNC and their arrogance lost this election.

Practical question - what is Trump going to do with his holdings?  Typically, presidents put their assets into blind trusts - to remove the appearance of impropriety.

I think Trump has already said, he will just turn over control to his kids - and I doubt he cares about the appearance of impropriety.  Is that enough, or is he asking for trouble?  Or will a GOP congress turn a blind eye?

I'm not that into politics,  how is the electoral college still a thing?

Second election in less than twenty years where the popular vote doesn't win?

Seems dumb
Because only a handful of states would really matter without the electoral college and some Midwest states would get totally ignored - and we are a nation of states. Is it perfect? No, but just going by popular vote isn't perfect either.
Yea, because as I watched the lead up to the vote... Clinton and Trump were seen vesting ND, SD, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho so many times I lost track.

Apparently nobody gives a crap about conflicts of interest.

It's going to be really interesting to see what kind of cabinet Trump puts together.  It's hard to imagine anybody worth employing wanting a job in this administration, but I think you can make a really good argument that it's morally imperative that good people do whatever they can to come in and mitigate the damage.  Trump is bad enough, but I just can't even comprehend Trump plus a bunch of hacks like Guiliani and Christie.
Lots of government workers in my building walking around in a bit of a fog. I'm really hoping he doesn't put his son or, god forbit, Palin, in charge of my Department.  But time will see.

Living in a non-swing state (KS), I think it would be hard for us to matter less than we do now. Electoral college needs to go.
I think it should be one person, one vote. Also support killing the electoral college.

Christie and Sessions are leading the transition team.

Reince is likely going to be the  chief of staff.

I know it's hard. My two closet friends are staunch democrats (we have played in a rock band together going on 25 years now), and are very bitter this morning.

I told them both.....take a deep breath and hey let's go write some songs about it and channel that energy in a better way then making yourself sick over it.
Well, I realize people are pissed at me too, because I voted 3rd party in a state that flipped (WI)

I think what people are hurt and pissed off about it trying to reconcile the hateful things that came out of that man's mouth about people we know and love and why people voted for him and why he is going to be sitting in the WH in a few months.  Best I can do is hope that they just chose him because they wanted to shake things up, and not that they are aligned with his beliefs about people and this country is as racist and sexist as it seems after last night.  I really didn't think it would be this close, let alone have this outcome, but yeah we have to move on, respect the process, and hope something positive can come from this.

I think it is more about the change needed than the racist type's. I really do.

Let's hope we get the positive change that is needed right now. The country really spoke with their vote last night.

They did, but the other guy won the EC and the election. ;)

While Trump shares a lot of Obama's narcissistic characteristics, he's different in that he has a lot of deal-making experience under his belt. The guy knows how to bring together multiple sides and come to a final agreement.  It's his bag, baby.  The dude is going to get a lot of bi-partisan legislation passed during his first term IMO.

Oh man that has to suck. They might actually be accountable for results now.

Here's what is coming IMO

#1) The end of the American public education system. in order to a) cut the legs off the Teachers Union and b) to let fundamentalist Christian schools thrive on the taxpayer dollar. With the court system in his favor vouchers are coming and all of the people in the South who send their kids to Bob Jones Fundamentalist Christian Academy are going to get a break on tuition now and it will never go away. . And it will further allow the segregation of schools in the South to continue - they'll use the vouchers as a guise to make schools better - but it's a race to the bottom. Most people in the middle and upper middle class use these schools to avoid having their kids in largely minority schools - as these vouchers follow the student it will be the death knell of the public school as everyone races(to the bottom) to get out. It's like a game of musical chairs and a lot of kids will be left out. Not that it's direction had been all that rosy - but the class system will rise in education and it will be about where you went. So long on the great egalitarian system that was an important fabric once upon a time in America. Don't forget about the mass amount of kids being taught that wildlife is 6000 years old and was transported on an Ark.

#2) Some real ugliness in the inner city - He said he's bringing back Stop and Frisk. Guilani and Christie are the architects of Stop and Frisk. I expect a full on war in the inner city before long. Combine that with ......

#3) drug testing for welfare benefits and cutting welfare spending. They want to rid the "taker" society. All my relatives ##### about the stories of how all the black women have babies and game the system for welfare and food stamps and never work. And doing this they make $100,000 a year. They have stepped up to driving Mercedes Benz's vs the Cadillac of the Reagan years. So this is getting cleaned up bigly....if you combine #2 with #3 and add

#4) Continuation of the war on drugs - this is the law and order crowd - that war will lead to

#5) A lot of inner city strife - it was nearly ready to explode under Obama - pretty soon no one will give a rats ### in the city - make that 2 rat's asses. And the concealed carry crowd are just a few "self-defense" shootings ala Trevon Martin away from starting some real bloodshed

#6) Wherever there is a Union - it's getting busted - just like Ronnie did in 1981 and it's always a crowd pleaser. No way to cut spending and spend on military without Government workers or Government projects getting the Union kicked out of them.

#7) The end of Affirmative Action especially at the university level. Wont matter if you fought your way to a B in a run down public school - if you don't have grades and class rank and SAT scores you are done. This is the Trump age where moms and dads can buy your way into an Ivy. This new court will see to that. Plus all these white Americans without degrees hate the American University(or Anti-American) system so forget any type of efforts to push a university degree where kids just get indoctrinated. Look for professor purity tests and the like to "balance" out liberalism. They need to kill the progressives in the womb.

#8) A lot of laws - like abortion clinic laws - falling under "States Rights" taking a new tumble.

It's going to look a lot like Wisconsin post Scott Walker( See what happened to University system there as an example) - lots of ugly fights and name calling and fear mongering to support election efforts in 2018. We have a long way to go before this fight is done.

So basically you are telling us we are going to have a Civil (race) War in this country in the next 4 years.

OK man.

And your views on public education are in outer space.

How so - We've had two nasty battles in Colorado in Douglas and Jefferson County. It keeps going back and forth. Only the court system has kept it under check - and a heavy fight from the teachers union in the last election as the education boards have overstepped. You don't think a player in this arena like Pence has been will be fighting harder for unfettered vouchers?

I can't imagine a country wide change in our public school systems which are run at the state and county levels. I think you are being very bold in thinking this will be a sweeping reality across the entire country.

It's not that easy. And I hope you are very wrong. Your implications are a civil war is no doubt happening.

Wow, if Obama had waited for his turn, Hillary would have defeated McCain/Palin and Obama would have had two terms after hers.

THANKS OBAMA

Look, Trumps first term is all about making Trump look good.  There will be smaller changes, but they will be trumpeted as the best small change ever, the biggest small change in history, if you stacked all of the small changes there have ever been it wouldn't be near as huge as this small change.

Trump's agenda is Trump.  He's not secretly scheming to eliminate public schools or end unions.  He doesn't have the stones for those battles.  The next four years is Trump presenting Trump in the best light possible.

The only horror about his first term is that you're going to have to hear this jagwad say stupid stuff on an almost daily basis.

hmmmmmm.  Don't know why you are taking this tact.  But ok.

I happen to think Palin is incompetent.  And would be a disaster in my area.

I've seen people come in to work for the government at the highest levels and try to run it like a business and it turn into a flaming disaster.  I'm all for accountability.  I'm all for professionalism.  Trump has a number of very good, very professional, very experienced people on his Transition staff.  One in particular was a high level senate confirmed appointee under W, and I respected the hell out of him.  If he is involved in Transition for my department like I think he will be, I'd be pretty happy.

But being wary of 1) incompetence or 2) Complete uknown with no government or governing experience does not equal "no accountability."

Sure, as long as a Twitter war he engages in doesn't turn into, you know, a real war.

Other than that, we should be fine.

I would have preferred not to take that chance.  It seems that lost of 3rd party voters are happy to roll the dice.  But if you aren't in a blast zone, maybe it doesn't matter as much to you.  If I didn't live where I did, maybe I'd care less too.

I love the electoral college.   It makes things so much more interesting.  Politics is such a dumpster fire to begin with.  Don't take away the one thing that's exciting.
Are you seriously advocating to keep a system that alienates votes to the point where they basically do not count at all if you vote in an area that doesn't share your opinion, all for the sake of reality television entertainment?

The candidate that has lied the most in recorded history according to a Pulitzer Prize winning non partisan site, just got elected because they cant trust the woman who lied the least according to the same site. Americans are so smart that they elected a person who can collapse our economy before he takes office.

But, emails.
Sorry but you are so off that states that have always been blue turned red she is so bad. You created it by letting her out of primaries, not Trumps fault.

I hope when Trump signs the repeal and replace bill he mutters "This is a big ####### deal" in homage to crazy Joe
Was for neither but it's done.  Dems meased up and our country spoke which is what everyone should want...  I'm for positive optimism that things will be ok, much more than I was yesterday.

We move forward and hopefully pay more attention as a whole to whats going on and get involved.

Fire them all.

Trump is going to create non-existent factory jobs that were replaced by machines for them

The chickens have come home to roost baby:

Remember when the libs were all happy when reconciliation was used by the democrats to pass bills that would not get 60 votes.

The nuclear option:

On November 21, 2013, Senate Democrats used the "nuclear option" to require only a majority vote to end a filibuster of certain executive and judicial nominees, not including Supreme Court nominees, rather than the 3/5 of votes previously required.

The process of reconciliation streamlines and limits debate and the process of amending the bill, and only requires a simple majority of 51 votes.  Reconciliation was never intended to be used for legislation of the magnitude of Obamacare. But that didn’t stop the Democrats.

By using this method bills were able to pass both houses of Congress and sent to President Obama for his signature without a single Republican vote in favor of the legislation.  The American system of governance was shafted.  To quote Democrat Rep. Alcee Hastings of the House Rules Committee during the bill process: “We’re making up the rules as we go along.”

In order to pass the Act Senate Democrats decided to change the rules.  They declared that they could use the “Reconciliation Rule (this is a Reconciliation is a legislative process used in the United States Senate when confronted with a controversial and heavily debated budget item. It is a way to get around the required 60 votes necessary to kill the minority party’s filibuster.

And the Senate and the House oh and the supreme court! Don't forget those.
I believe some random old fart democrat has already said hey won't hear any of Trump's nominees. I'm sure there is some procedural #### in the rules that will allow them to do this.

I wish I could give this post multiple likes.  This phenomenon is absolutely endemic on both sides of the aisle, and it gets reinforced by the stupid little social media bubbles that people voluntarily put themselves in.

So great to see how Hypocritical they are when he starts doing what all Presidents do, take vacations. It will be OK, because its their guy.
The lame politicking is what you wanted to get rid of by voting for him(supposedly), but you still do it. Hypocrites.
Good for Trump supporters, may the white privilege you so badly want begin soon.

So a global warming denier is going to be the Sec of State? Thats hould work out well.
Ben Carson, a man who thinks the earth is 5,000 years old, could possibly be on the cabinet of the world's greatest nation.  I think that bothers me the most right now.

"I voted for an overt sexist with racist undertones because I wanted to shake things up" isn't really that much better than just being a racist or a sexist.

Code:
--Build a wall on the Mexican border and make Mexico pay for it
--Deport 11m undocumented immigrants
--Tear up NAFTA
--Tear up nuclear agreement with Iran
--Get rid of ISIS, quickly
--Ban Muslims from entering the US
--$1 trillion to rebuild US infrastructure
--Repeal Obamacare
--Put Hillary Clinton in prison
--Impose tariffs on Chinese and Mexican goods

I'd be rooting hard for impeachment if he hadn't chosen a runningmate who is stuck in the 1950s. Great ticket.
Trumps playing chess while the rest of us are playing checkers.  "How can I get the religious right to vote for me and at the same time help ensure they won't impeach me if I win?  I know I'll get that goofball Pence to be my VP!"

It'd be funny if he heel turned and ran as a Democrat in 2020 after getting sick of dealing with the Republicans the next 4 years. I could totally see him firing 3/4 of his cabinet between now and then. Pretty sure he hates them all already.

My exact words when Democrats pulled this #### was "you guys are going to throw a fit when President Palin does this exact thing and the chickens come home to roost".

And no one on the Left saw any problem with it then. So I am just assuming they won't have any problem with it now. They've been forewarned for 8 years. I didn't get the President Palin part right, but, the reason there's so much fear and anger from the Left today is because they knew this bill was coming due. They know they #### all over checks and balances for 8 years because their guy was in power and "Oh dear, there's no way we ever lose another election, we'll be in power forever".

If the Left hadn't been acting with such hubris and disdain for the system the last 8 years, they wouldn't have any reason to fear today.

I'm enjoying watching the roosting.
I imagine this has been going on forever and neither party really has the high ground here - although IMO this last batch of republicans has been particularly bad. Could be wrong there, don't claim to be some historian. They questioned the guy being born here though which kinda seems about as low as it gets.

Anyways regardless the side you take it would be nice to see these guys get some compromise going instead of what they have had going for awhile now.
