Could Hogan ruin the company any more. First he forces them to get rid of the six-sided ring and now the name change. Well, actually, I've always thought the TNA name was stupid. The TNA name was okay for them when they were trying to get attention. But if they plan on taking the company anywhere, they probably do need to change it to something less sexual sounding. But I don't think there was anything wrong with the six-sided ring. It was just Hogan's inability to want to learn something new.

after watching a Dino Bravo match I wiki'd him and found this out.

Shows how out of touch I am. I didn't know TNA got rid of the Hexagon. While it can be a bit jarring to wrestling fans at first and create some difficulty in camera angles, I do think it makes for a better overall product (especially if you're trying to be an alternative to WWE) As a former wrestler, I don't understand Hulk's reason for getting rid of it. You usually only use 2 sides (opposite) at any time. opposite ropes are still parallel, so nothing really changes.

Yeah they got rid of it last year shortly after Hogan and Bischoff got hired. He really did not have a real reason for getting rid of it. This is what he said in an interview this week"The six-sided ring was great for all those 'TNA, TNA,' guys who wanted to keep TNA in the small studio. But, if you really want to ramp things up and take this on the road and do this thing the right way, wrestling is meant to be done in a squared circle. So, I was all for it," he said.

He is really the only big name I can think of that never made the jump even for a short time. He was close to a match this year at wrestle mania to be coincided with an induction into the hall of fame but he instead chose one more run in Impact Wrestling (TNA)

I don't watch the TNA program that much, but I'm glad they went back to the traditional ring. The other seemed too small and was sometimes distracting, IMO.

The Shockmaster

- I was live at this event. It was worse seeing this live than seeing it on TV. You couldn't tell what was going on between two cages from a crowd perspective. So, yes, that's why you hear almost no crowd noise during the match. Watching it on video isn't much better, but at least Mick Foley gives some nice additional commentary here to make it worth watching.I may post more later. But that should keep you all entertained.

Jesus, good thing you told me that was Nash as I could not make out who it was. The vid is not the best quality but Hall looks normal and Nash looks like he has an old man mask on.

I believe he was making fun of Sid in that. The Sid video took place after the first revamp that saw the WCW logo change (it looked like something out of Star Trek). I believe WCW Mayhem (Nov 1999) was the first PPV during that era, which was actually a very good PPV and started a good trend. Bret Hart won his first WCW World title during that PPV against Chris Benoit in a tournament final.

:goodposting: I spent a few years when I lived in the WV & VA area supporting NWL wrestling (www.nwlwrestling.com) and their House of Pain training school. The school is led by John Rambo and holds cards every Tuesday night to get the trainees used to working a crowd and performing before people. The school even has its own heavyweight title. They promote in an area (roughly) from Chambersburg, PA down to Winchester, VA. One former champion in the promotion's early days was none other than Mick Foley. :thumbup: The area is very redneck - especially around the base of Hagerstown, MD. Example, my one buddy went to the 2nd Tuesday night card they ever had. An ambulance goes by and half the crowd runs outside during the match to see where the ambulance is going. :lmao:

When Rambo holds cards outside of the school, he does bring in a few old wrestlers. I've met one of the Vachons, Nicolai Volkoff, Jimmy Valiant and a couple of others. It's nice because older fans get to kick it with the guys, flip 'em $5 for a photo with them, and make them feel like people still remember them.

I have stories from those days, but one in particular stands out. My buddy and I noticed this young couple kept coming to the matches. Over time, we noticed she was getting bigger - obviously pregnant. Well, one week they just don't show. Hmmm...we figure she's had the baby and they'll be gone for a while. It was like the NEXT WEEK and there they are again. It's like 20 degrees outside while we're waiting to get in and she's holding this 10-day old baby in 20 degree weather waiting to get in to watch wrestling. :lmao:

If I can put together some other stories I'll post 'em.

This is the time when indies should be banding together, with the WWE product becoming the same old Cena and Orton song and dance and TNA continuing to write the book on insane booking.I'd go ga-ga for a territory system again.

Yup. One of my most bizarre matches involves him. We got booked at some bar in Keyser (i think) for this big charity event. Among the other events at the bar was a bike rally. Well, I was a heel with a biker gimmick and Shane was a face. So they came up with this idea to help get me over as a heel with the bikers. The main event was the "Chug-a-lug Battle Royal" which essentially was a royal rumble with the entrance order determined by how fast one can chug a beer at the beginning of the show. So, all the wrestlers come out at the beginning to do the chug. I announce that I don't drink beer, the commish says "no problem, you can drink soda." I say I don't drink soda. When asked what I would drink, I say chocolate milk. So I do my chug with a pint of chocolate milk. Well, that failed to get the fans to hate me. Time comes for a match, and I'm trying to heel it up, saying stuff "I bet the only bike you ride is a Schwinn!" no go. Audience is still cheering me and booing Shane. Finally, we just say #### it and change mid match to me being the face and Shane being the heel and change the finish so I go over (I know, I know, kayfabe.)

After the match, I go up to the bar to get some water as I just worked 2 matches (the one with Shane and the battle royal) out in the sun in the middle of summer on a black mat while wearing black leather (the gimmick was not designed for outdoor shows). I had so many people come up and tell me how they loved the chocolate milk bit and cheered for me because of that.

 
I heard Chyna's in TNA as of last night's Impact, this time romantically involved with Kurt Angle. So much for getting those images from One Night in Chyna out of the heads of those unfortunates who saw it (and no, thank God I never saw that "film").

The Honky Tonk shows were right before I started wrestling, but I knew some of the wrestlers at that point. Honky actually worked 2 shows for CPW that weekend. Won one, lost the other. From what I've been told was that there was a real possibility of CPW folding after that show, so they wanted a face to go over in case it was the last match ever. But it's not uncommon for the big names to have to job to a top name in the promotion. Seen it in many promotions.

He was the owner and perennial champion of the American Wrestling Association (an early WWE), and hosted the “league’s” weekly Smackdown-style TV show, “All-Star Wrestling” - which just so happened to be the one of the highest rated primetime shows for almost 40 years. Now it seems that, afflicted with Alzheimers, an 82-year-old Gagne may have killed his 97-year-old roommate in a fight in their assisted-living home.

Twin Cities FOX affiliate MYFOX9.COM has the story, with requisite newsreel coverage, which claims that Gagne is suspected of breaking 97-year-old Helmut R. Gutmann’s leg and injuring his head in a fight. That scuffle sent the former cancer scientist and survivor of Nazi Germany to the hospital, where he recovered but still died from the effects of the attack four days later.

There’s no word on whether Gagne will be charged with any crime because of his precarious mental state. It’s also possible that the attack, which happened Jan. 26, may have contributed to Guttman’s death but not caused it directly. After all, a lot can go wrong in a 97-year-old body.

Elderly rights groups are already lining up to try and argue that Gagne shouldn’t be charged, and it does seem hard to justify sending him through the legal process at age 82 when he may not know what he’s doing at all.

Still, the sad incident has already cost the former wrestling one thing: His home. He was kicked out of the assisted living facility immediately after the incident, and there’s no word whether he’s living with relatives again or is in another home.

While watching some of these I found my way to some old Rick Flair promos. No one did it better. One of the side videos was a day in the life of the four horsemen. That was great listening to Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard talking about how they lived in those days. I was also happy to hear Bob Caudle's voice again. Brings back so many good memories of my childhood on Saturday mornings.

 
Watching the self destruction of the ultimate warrior.

Edge, Jericho, Mean Gene Okerlund, bobby heenan and wwe in the vid are making fun that he is from parts unknown. why is that bad, it made him seem more mysterious.

How much money did Vince pay for the warrior to go on when he threatened not to go the 1st time.

they also complained about his short matches. and i get that it was because of his lack of wrestling skills, but he had that Mike Tyson feel for his matches.

another part in the video, Vince got mad that The Ultimate Warrior missed a show because his dad died. Vince said his father dying is not a big deal he has not seen him in over 10 years and used this as a legal reason to miss a show.

 
Did anyone watch Tough Enough last night?

If so, can you tell me why it was AJ's fault she got hurt? I can't figure out what happened.

She was supposed to do a cross body from the top rope, but switched at the last second to a double ax handle and hurt her ankle. AJ seemed more than close enough to support the cross body. I don't understand what mistake he made but DeMott seemed adamant he screwed up.

 
I suppose that I would have loved it as a kid, but Cena getting over every Monday on Raw is annoying me. Before WM they had him losing some, getting beaten up, etc. But now it's bothering me - I think they really missed a chance to flip Miz at Wrestlemania. The crowd was just DYING for Miz to turn and it didn't happen.

I'm not sure how the "I quit" match is going to go. They can't very well have Cena quit.

Also, it looks like Christian got the steroids out of his system or whatever it was. I'd lay $20 he beats Orton Sunday night.

 
It's a bit dated, but re-watched "Beyond The Mat" over the weekend and it still holds up.

Shows some great behind the scenes stuff within the WWE, Indys and whatever is lower than the Indys. Great, great stuff on Terry Funk, really sobering stuff on Jake 'The Snake' Roberts, and Mick Foley really steals the whole thing.

Shows how much of an ### Vince is, yet how everyone just takes it because he is the ultimate puppetmaster in a business they all want to be in.
