I would PM someone but don't know who. That thread was super useful

I have no idea. Once they’re deleted, they won’t come up in a search even by the admins. Usually threads are deleted by the original posters, not by moderators. Usually (but not always) moderators hide threads rather than deleting them, so that they’re still viewable by mods. But I don’t see a multiple-page audiophile thread.

Just got a Pro-Ject turntable. Running it through a USB port and looking to get some Klipsch bluetooth bookshelves. Worth it, or is an analog amp the way to go?

I think I know the answer, just want to contribute to the thread.

NOW I KNOW NOTHING!

On the positive side, we can all humble brag about how awesome our own systems are.

Also, never did get an answer - anyone know a good SWITCH (not source) for tunes (for a 20 year old Audible Illusions tubed pre-amp)

Also good news, I can finally find a set up to run my wires and use surround again - was not worth the battles over wire control in the new apartment with the now ex.

Another question: what's the best set up to run two separate systems into the same pair of front speakers (floor standing, also old but still pretty awesome: NHT 2.5i )? Some master switch (but I'd hate to degrade the sound for the tubed pre and solid state power amp for music)?

I think they make adapters to connect via Bluetooth but not sure. Especially that old

If it's analog out then I would go analog amp if USB only then I'd get a digital amp and use that power the speakers.

By source do you mean something like Spotify, Apple Music?

It's both analog and USB. The USB has its own pre-amp and the analog can be run through a true amp with a phono amp. I have limited space and cash, though, so right now I'm running the USB through my computer and using some Sennheiser Momentum bluetooth cans. It sounds surprisingly good.

So you're trying to run two systems into the same speakers? Think you'd have to go a switch of some kind, running both sources into the same speakers is asking for trouble IMO.

Sound like you have the best setup for what you're looking to accomplish. Bookshelves may not sound as good as the cans. You could use something like this maybe if you really want to use bookshelves.

That's a great rec. Thanks. Pyle has been mentioned many times in my world.

eta* It's got a reverse Analog-to-digi-converter. Interesting. I always remembered it being the reverse of that. Sounds decent, regardless.

Going through Bluetooth would (I assume?) degrade the sound too much, no? I'm concerned even a hard wired solution would degrade the sound as it's only going to be as good as the weakest link.

The components are old, but in terms of the actual sound quality and components, tubed pre-amps are using nearly century old technology (at least) and even the solid state amp (McCormack DNA .5) is probably on par or better than the sound component of most amps, it's the bells and whistles that seem to have exploded in the past 20 years with a focus on data and connectivity (HDMI, Bluetooth etc).

Those I have with my Pioneer Elite unit I got last year, but in terms of pure sound, my older system will kick its ###.

So, looking to get the best of both worlds without having to literally detach and attach Speaker wires to switch systems.

Yeah, that's my thought. But how much will a high end switch cost on a system that I once bought $300 RCA connectors for... :oldunsure:

Niles and Bryston but not sure where to get the Bryston. Both have a history of being solid high end switches.
I remember seriously considering bryston for my solid state amp - but IIRC, it was just that much out of my Budget to get what I needed. Recall them being awesome.

Id always wanted separates for amps, but the Audible Illuisions would have run me like $2500 or something new, and I took a calculated but very successful risk in buying it used online for like $800. I didn't have the money for the solid state so I saved for like a year then got the system together.  Even had an awesome deal on an ICON MKII CD player. You know, when that was a thing.

You need to provide the details on the speaker, receiver, screen, projector setup.
Speakers - just bought these showed up Wednesday

Epson 1040 projector. Got this on sale for like 400 bucks. 2 years ago?

Will upgrade projector eventually it's not the best quality

Not top of the line by any means but suits me fine :)

Well you do know the McIntosh makes tubes AND solid state now :) I am still using an almost 20 year old Rotel 5 channel amp that is amazing. Using a Denon 3310CI as a preamp. Love it.

Huge fan of tower speakers, you will have to pry them from my cold dead hands!! Started with a pair a of Infinity about 25 years ago, upgraded those to Paradigm Monitors (1st gen) and now Golden Ears Tritons that are 4ft tall :)

I do know that, but McIntoshes were way out of my budget.  The McCormack was a good deal from a local shop that wanted to move it for a newer model or something like that.

I have about six old recievers and amps in my basement.  A couple are like 20 y/o, including an NAD amp.

My question is, how the heck can I get them tested, to make sure they are running right?  I woukd hate to short out my whole system hooking up a bad amp.  Tia.

It was pretty much just messing around, they make great products but are definitely on the pricey side.

Short of cracking them open and running a multi-meter on them you can't. I'd run them on some cheap bookshelves and see how they handle it. As long as you don't have anything audible you should be ok. That's the beauty of solid state, especially the older stuff it lasts forever provided you aren't storing them in a damp area.

Really solid setup.  Not familiar with the speakers though.   Projector is similar to mine, Epson 2040 vs. 1040.  Decent entry level projector with no huge reason to upgrade until the 4k's become affordable.  Enjoy!
