*** Official SF 49ers 2015 thread *** Chip Kelly new HC (1 Viewer)

Perry Fewell turned down the 49ers DB coach position in favor of the Redskins today. Oof. No one wants to work for this team.

So from Jim Harbaugh to the Dline coach and Lane Kiffin.

It literally gets no worse than that.
Tom Brady being crowned as CLEARLY the greatest QB to ever live? (Joe who?)
Congrats, this is the dumbest post I've read today, excellent work
Joe who? LOL...... Go Hawks!

"If Tom Brady can win this Super Bowl...4 wins...6 appearances...in my opinion he will be the greatest QB in NFL history." - Ron Jaworski

Annnnnd he follows it up with the 2nd dumbest post in this thread.

Hey since we're using Jaws as the authority, how about we throw this quote in too:

"I truly believe Colin Kaepernick could be one of the greatest quarterbacks ever, I love his skill set. I think the sky's the limit." Ron Jaworski, Aug 22, 2013

Yeah, you just got got.

Not using Jaws as an authority, however using a NFL "mind" to second my thought which was labeled as "stupid". Bottom line is this.....the post hits home. The post is true. The post has struck a chord with EVERY niner fan in my office...oh yeah, I'm in the bay area!!!

I'm not trolling, I actually just pointed out that things can and will get worse (mentally) then the post that I originally quoted asking "can it get worse". Things will get worse for 49ers fans immediately at the conclusion of the game. pick your poison...Hawks or Brady LOL.

You can argue Joe, Brady, Elway, or whomever you would like, but even in a sarcastic tone saying "Joe who?" is wildly stupid.

No matter what happens this Sunday, a Sunday in 2016, 2017, or the foreseeable future, when discussing greatest QB ever, Joe Montana will be in the discussion...

Personally I root for Brady, not really "posion" as you label it for whatever reason, good company for Montana in the GOAT argument

Anything else you feel the need to interject into this thread?

How is the outcome of a game the 49ers aren't eben playing in going to make anything worse? I for one hope Brady joins the 4 ring club. That's not making anything worse for anyone in 49er land. I'm old enough to remember as far back as SB VIII, so Im fortunate to have watched both Bradshaws and Montana's SB runs, and now I'm watching Bradys. As a football fan, its pretty awesome.Your post was called stupid or dumb or whatever because a statement like Tom "Brady being crowned as CLEARLY the greatest QB to ever live? (Joe who?)" Is pretty short sided, no? Maybe if you changed the word CLEARLY to ARGUABLY you wouldn't have got that response. Thats YOUR OPINION. There is no clear when it comes to the greatest, its ALL opinion. Use Jaws or whoever else agrees with yours to try to convince people, but that doesn't make it fact. A case could be made for several different QBs.

Secondly, adding the "Joe who?" To your statement CLEARLY shows you're trying to stir the pot. One could argue that because Joe never lost a SB he is a better QB than Brady. His SB win percentage is perfect. Just because he didn't make it to as many as Brady has doesn't make him less of a QB, it just means that the teams he was on didn't go to more than 4. I never try to convince anyone to who the greatest is because its impossible, and everyone measures greatness differently.

The pick your poison comment is what I had to laugh at...seems you think no matter what happens in the game, its gonna be a dagger to 49er fans. I can't speak to other fans, but it doesn't bother me either way. Sure I don't wanna see Seattle win another SB, but it doesn't make anything worse for me as a 49er fan. When/if they ever win a 5th ring, come see me and maybe it'll matter. Until then, they're chasing history, and I really don't care.

If Brady wins I'll actually be happy because I will have witnessed yet another legend join a very elite group in my lifetime, and that's not a bad thing.

Geep Chryst gets a promotion.

New San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Tomsula does not have an offensive background, so we've been very curious to see who he taps as offensive coordinator. On Wednesday, we found out.

NFL Media's Albert Breer reports that Geep Chryst is expected to take over the job. Chryst, like Tomsula, is taking a big jump from position coach. Chryst has been the team's quarterbacks coach for the last four years.

Chryst had a long history with Jim Harbaugh, and was involved in playcalling for the 49ers' red zone plays, including Vernon Davis' famous game-winner over the Saints in 2012.

Jim Tomsula's staff will have a lot of crossover with Harbaugh's staff, with Tomsula, Chryst, and Mangini replacing Harbaugh, Greg Roman and Vic Fangio. This entire upcoming season feels like a test of the 49ers' theory that their coaching leaders last season weren't truly that necessary.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000464926/article/49ers-expected-to-hire-geep-chryst-as-ocoordinator

The fact that hes called red zone plays in the past doesn't exactly have me excited, given their red zone woes the past few years, but I guess we'll see.

:hohum:

I was on the treadmill at the gym when I saw this headline on the bottom screen ticker and started laughing.

Thank god I did not buy a PSL. To think this is all happening a year into the move to the new stadium and two years removed from the Super Bowl.

Absolute sucktitude.

49ers hire Tom Gamble back into the fold:

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/01/29/49ers-hire-tom-gamble-as-senior-personnel-executive/

The 49ers are bringing back Tom Gamble.

Gamble, most recently the Eagles’ vice president of player personnel, has joined San Francisco as a senior personnel executive, the team said Thursday.

The Eagles parted ways with Gamble in December after two seasons on the job. He spent the previous eight seasons with San Francisco, serving as the club’s director of player personnel in 2011 and 2012.

“Tom is one of the most experienced, knowledgeable, and respected personnel men in the business,” 49ers General Manager Trent Baalke said in a team-issued statement. “He played an instrumental role in our personnel department from 2005-2012, and is well versed in our system having played a role in its development. This familiarity, along with his many strengths, will be tremendous assets as we prepare for free agency and the draft. It is great to have Tom back with the 49ers.”
Some may find this good news, until you look at the 49ers record from 2005 to 2010, and the draft of 2012. How Gamble got run out of PHI - which what little I have read about their FO situation seems to be the case, although I could be wrong - is something to look into as well.

Either way, Marathe is still the #1 man who decides on the talent anyway. Gamble back in the fold means nothing, and Gamble even throughout his years in SF still had not found a real WR, or even a credible backup QB to Alex Smith. The Gamble is just basically smoke from the burning tires over in Santa Clara. Nothing more.

After the loss to the Seahawks, JH was basically out. Not to be a ####, but I hope something horrible happens to York.

I'm not talking about death, that's too much, but something real bad...

- Angry woman chops off penis and throws it away

- Voice box malfunctions and can never speak again

- Gets beat up by an ugly woman in public for making inappropriate sexual advances.

- Gets caught in a Pulp Fiction situation like the gimp for at least 10 years

Any of these would make me happy, #### you Jed York!

New WR coach coming, and Crabtree moving on?

Http://m.espn.go.com/general/blogs/blogpost?blogname=san-francisco-49ers&id=12215&src=desktop&rand=ref~%7B%22ref%22%3A%22http%3A%2F%2Fwww.49erswebzone.com%2Fnews%2Fgoto.php%3Fid%3D79830%22%7D

The San Francisco 49ers continue to fill out new coach Jim Tomsulas staff, although they haven't announced any hirings yet. Rather, LSUs sports information director announced via Twitter on Sunday afternoon that Tigers receivers coach Adam Henry was leaving Baton Rouge to claim a spot on the Niners staff.

Henry, who was at LSU the past three years, was with the Oakland Raiders five seasons before that -- two as an offensive quality control assistant and three as the tight ends coach.

At LSU, Henry coached the likes of Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry and had Zach Miller and Kevin Boss with the Raiders.

With the Niners, Henry should share some coaching duties with Ronald Curry, an offensive assistant since 2013 who was blocked by the team from talking with the Buffalo Bills and was also sought after by Florida to coach the Gators' receivers.

One player Henry might not have to worry about is free agent receiver Michael Crabtree, who recently removed any mention of the 49ers from his Twitter bio.

Good post.

Garcia and Owens gone. Rattay and Dorsey at QB, Ced Wilson, Brandon Lloyd and Arnez Battle at WR. Barlow not living up to expectations. What a train wreck.

As a fan since 1970 (pre-teen), I remember how awful the team was from 1973 until Walsh got there (awful for another year and pretty bad for yet another after Walsh arrived) but this got me interested into looking at some stats from those teams pre-Walsh. In 1978 Deberg and Scott Bull combined for 9 TDs and 33 picks. Freddie Soloman led the team with 458 yards receiving. Brutal. Even though the team finished 2-14 in Walsh's first year, you could tell they were moving in the right direction and were at least enjoyable to watch.

Thanks for the memories..............

SF to go WR in first round?

http://www.49ers.com/news/blog/article-2/ESPNs-Kiper-and-McShay-49ers-Will-Select-First-round-WR/c93fb855-a370-4310-a928-6e7b5cba2497

In his latest mock draft, ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. has chosen Central Florida junior wide receiver Breshad Perriman as the San Francisco 49ers 15th overall pick. He remains consistent in thinking that the 49ers will select a pass-catcher in the first-round. Kiper chose West Virginia wideout Kevin White for the 49ers in his first mock draft.

ESPN draft analyst Todd McShay has also chosen wide receivers for the 49ers in his two mocks. He started with Michigan's Devin Funchess and now has Ohio State's Devin Smith going to the red and gold.

The trend extends beyond ESPN. A wide receiver seems to be the popular choice for the 49ers first pick in mocks around the web.

The 49ers currently have nine wide receivers on their roster, with former first-round pick Michael Crabtree set to be a free agent this offseason.

The Faithful will be paying close attention to the wide receiver group at next week's Scouting Combine. According to NFL Media draft analyst Mike Mayock, these are the top five prospects at the position.

1. White, West Virginia

2. Amari Cooper, Alabama

Aw hell, it's mock draft season. Worst time of the year on 49er message boards and blogs.

The Faithful will be paying close attention to the wide receiver group at next week's Scouting Combine.
Just when did 49ers fans get this coined? 49er fans weren't "The Faithful" until the Yorks screwed everything up the first time, and then decided to move the team to Santa Clara. Of course the link is from the 49er propaganda site. It's almost a mockery that they call their fanbase that. Well, it is a mockery but hey, they had faith when John York gutted the team and raised ticket prices at the Stick years ago, so there is that.

The question isn't "will they draft a WR in the 1st round". It's if that WR has two broken legs that Baalke covets.

I've been hearing the term 49er faithful for 15+ years.

Never read it coined in any of the SF papers, nor saw it on any billboards in the Bay Area until the Yorks took over, and then saw The Faithful after the Erickson debacle. If anything, the Niner Empire was the coined nickname, and that was an answer to the Raider Nation.

Seriously, never saw a Faithful T-shirt anywhere during the Dynasty heyday, even towards the latter years post the last SB win. I could be wrong, but I lived in SF for years and never saw it then.

I've been hearing the term 49er faithful for 15+ years.

The term was around in the 70's. My family had season tickets for a few years when I was a kid in the early 70's and the term was pretty common then at the stadium at least. Don't really remember it being used in the glory years though..................

I never saw it used in the alumni parking when I went to games at the Stick with a friend of mine who is related to Lon Simmons years back, but again, this wasn't the 70's. Maiocco's book tells how a fan brought the name up during the Joe Thomas era, but it seemed to vanish until the Yorks took over and after the first fire sale of the roster under Terry Donahue. It's not an historic nickname for fans as far as I can tell, all the way back to Kezar, and I never seen the term used in the media or on KNBR/KTCT when I moved there over 25 years ago. Fans called themselves the 49er Empire/Niner Empire then, and that term is on the Wiki page as a team nickname, so there is that as far as any real meaning.

Now of course it is used liberally, yet as long as I have been a fan since the late 70's, I never called myself one of "The Faithful", and other fans I had met didn't call themselves that either, even in SF. I think it came back, more accurately when the Yorks hired **** Nolan's son Mike Nolan, trying to harken back to the resurrection of the franchise. It was then I saw it peppered all over the city.

Interesting interview with Harbaugh released today. Accuses Tomsula of undermining him and campaigning for the job in not so many words.

-HARBAUGH: Well, I am never going to forget the players, the loyal coaches and the memories that I have of being a part of the San Francisco 49er team.

-Q: Do you think 49ers management decided that they didn’t want you back long ago–maybe early in the season?

-HARBAUGH: You know I don’t know all that. I don’t want to speculate. You may know. You may know better than I know.

-Q: You did ask me after the last game to investigate where the leaks came. And I understood that and I believe we should do that. I asked Jed York point blank if he was the leak, he denied it. I’ve since written that I believe he was. How do you think I’ve reported it so far?

-HARBAUGH: I can’t say that I’ve read everything. I mean, I have a good idea–I’ve got a pretty good understanding of some of the things that took place.

I don’t think we were playing out of the same playbook. But maybe there’ll be a book some day. Maybe I’ll write a manuscript…

-Q: I’d like to read that one.

-HARBAUGH: (Laughs.) Those are good questions for him and the 49er hierarchy. And we’ll leave it at that.

-Q: What was your relationship like with Jim Tomsula at the end? Did you feel like he was at all campaigning for your job while you still had it?

-HARBAUGH: Yeah, that’s a good question for him. Better than to me.

-Q: Was it awkward? His name was certainly out there as a possible potential replacement.

-HARBAUGH: Uhh, there was definitely a point where you walk down the halls and you… I wasn’t reading anything that was on the Internet, I was really focused on doing my job… but definitely walk down the halls and people look away or they look at you and you know something’s going on.

That’s really about the extent of the knowledge that I have on it.

-Q: That can’t be a comfortable situation to work in.

-HARBAUGH: Better questions for others.

What, journalists aren't supposed to do their job anymore?

Walsh's A Football Life on NFLN was awesome.

Shot in the dark here - anyone have Walsh's book Finding the Winning Edge? Its pretty rare, and it can't be found online for any less than $250.

Last time I posted in here was Jan 2nd. You guys were talking about a suspected dark period for this franchise. I laughed you all off as Willis could hold together a unit by himself. If he's gone, niners gonna be in rebuild real fast.
