Germany wait
Germany was 12-6-0 all time against Poland, what an amazing result for them.Poland had 4 shots, 3 on goal and 2 of them went in. Amazing.

Germany had 22 shots with 8 of them on goal and nothing. Szczęsny was a brick wall!

A great debut for Karim Bellarabi for Germany. While he didn't score, 4 of the 8 shots on goal were his.

I liked him as well- really dynamic making constant runs into pockets of space... almost another Goetze- and paired well with him as well. But maybe not enough of a presence in the air, which they seemed to miss.

Poland- only a couple of shots, but they had a handful of other counters that looked like they could have been dangerous if not broken up. Germany seemed pretty open through the back with guys committed forward- even before Poland went up. A surprising lack of discipline for a team that's been so rock solid getting numbers back so fast.

(Spicy MLS talk ahead)

I have to say, watching the Union crash and burn the last several weeks has been one of the more disheartening sports experiences I've had in recent years. And it's not even the losses that bother me as much as they way they happen. This team seems to live to give matches away, and snatches defeat (and draws) from the jaws of victory with a skill I've not seen since my days as an Oakland Raiders fan.

I'll say this - there is growing discontent from the Union fanbase as far as I've observed, and if the front office thinks shuffling a few pieces around is going to help they are sorely mistaken. This team is not established enough to operate the way they do and expect fans to just sit and take it. I'm going to next weekend's Sporting KC match (free ticket), and I'd be surprised if PPL Park is half full. This whole organization is need of a housecleaning, and if it doesn't happen soon they could be in big trouble in the next few years.

Or who knows, maybe fans are dumber than I give them credit for and they'll still keep paying for season tickets. Stranger things have happened.

Life after Lahm, it's going to take some getting used to.

Read on ESPNFC that Barcelona FC officially support Catalan right to self-determination prior to upcoming referendum. If successful, Barca would not be allowed to compete in La Liga as currently structured. Not sure if this is just posturing, as referendum seems to be on shaky ground legally; but if not, it's ####### righteous on Barca's behalf. I like it. Catalans, Basques....

La Liga would make the necessary provisions for inclusion, of course...by the way, did you see that Moyes has been linked with the Inter job if Mazzarri gets sacked? ...they deserve each other.

One less good team than they play with now.

There's an exception already for FC Andorra, which is a sixth division team.

It's posturing by La Liga, but I think they need Barcelona more than Barca needs La Liga. I'm sure Ligue 1 would let Catalan teams in.

My post was awkwardly worded...I like Barca's stance, NOT La Liga's.

Obviously any league would take Barcelona into the top league, but what do they do with Espanyol? I assume if Ligue 1 took them both, they would move to 22 teams for a year or two while they sorted out the relegation aspect.

Moyes' everton would work ok for Inter.

And if that did happen, would Espanyol fans be nicer to FCB?

I think it's irrelevant anyway, even if Catalonia gets independence, they're staying in La Liga. Barca needs Madrid, Madrid needs Barca, Espanyol needs La Liga, etc. etc. Nothing's going to change, soccer-wise.

It's difficult not to have a let down after a World Cup win as well.

A great amount of buggery is decided by the outcome of such derby matches...

Quick, we'd better fix the meme - how do you say "I have no idea what I'm doing" in Italian?

Former Premier League star Garry O'Connor has admitted he blew his career and £4million fortune on cocaine, booze and Ferraris. O'Connor, 31, says he snorted drugs up to three times a week as well as splashing a whopping £2million on fast cars and expensive champagne. He even spent £2,000 on a tracksuit.

The former Hibs striker and Scotland player, who now lives in a £65-a-week council house, admits his love for cocaine parties has left him with nothing. He told the Daily Record: "I always found myself in the company of people who had coke on offer all the time- it was too easy to take the drug on a night out. "I knew I should never have put myself in that position but when you've got that much cash sloshing around you get carried away. My life was out of control but I kept it quiet."

At the height of O'Connor's career he was earning £18,000 a week but he claims the pressure of performing on the park led him to drugs. He said: "I've certainly not spent much cash on cocaine- it was always just put my way by so-called friends. "I would never touch the stuff when I was playing, but if I was out injured we would end up going out two or three times a week and cocaine would always appear." He added: "I never did it before a game. It was usually at the weekend then I'd try and get it out my system before training on Monday when I might get tested."

"It was one of the hardest calls I've ever had to do. They brought me up the right way and had been caring, fantastic parents. For me to chuck this back in their faces must have been very hard for them to take. It was a tearful conversation. In 2012 Edinburgh Sheriff Court heard cops found O'Connor with "white powder" and a rolled up £20 note in a Land Rover. Speaking of MLS scheduling, I was listening to the Soccer Morning podcast yesterday and learned that La Galaxy and Seattle Sounders - probably the two best MLS teams right now - play each other twice in October, likely to decide the Supporters Shield and seeding for the playoffs. I looked today and saw they play each other back to back, in the final two weeks of the season? Is that normal? Is that a designed thing? It seemed very odd to me to have two of the top teams playing each other in consecutive weeks to end the season. In any event, I'll put those two on my calendar for MLS viewing as they should be pretty good games featuring several players.
Those games are going to be really fun since both teams are playing very well and are easily the two best teams. The Supporters Shield would be a fantastic cherry but it holds a little less meaning this year since Seattle already won the Open Cup. As such, LA is almost certain to get the CCL bid whether they win the Supporters Shield or come in second.

Since MLS has a 34 game schedule with 19 teams, the schedule is unbalanced and teams can play other teams more than twice in a season. If memory serves Seattle plays LA 3 times this year. It is a bit of a scheduling quirk that two come late in the year.

It could work out though since if fans watch these two games, I think it could make if/when they meet in the conference finals more interesting.

Gonzo, Donovan(his last regular season game), Rogers, Keane, Evans, Alonso, Dempsey, Martins, Yedlin and others do give these games some easy name recognition as you mentioned.
With LA losing to Dallas yesterday, it seems Seattle and LA are even on points at the top of the table, although Seattle has the tiebreaker with more games won. With Donovan's swan song in the mix, these games are shaping up to be good entertainment. Oct. 19 at LA, 25th at Seattle on a Saturday afternoon to end the MLS season and likely decide the supporters shield.

Iceland, for being such a tiny country, actually puts out a pretty impressive amount of football talent. Not saying that they should be beating the Dutch, but they're not Andorra or Monaco either.

Despite our team being top 20 most of my four years, we couldn't get a league championship (after 10 straight prior to my coming). We had a lot of really good players (all-americans and lots of all-leaguers), made a couple of sweet 16 runs in the NCAAs... but no championships.

A couple years after I graduated, an Icelandic kid (international) came over and despite a terrible team single-handedly won the team a league championship with a league-record amount goals (14 in 7 games). We had no MF, but they would just clear it out anywhere near him and he'd beat 3 or 4 defenders and score. It and he were incredible... Rikki Dadason.

I'm settled in on the Iceland bandwagon for Euro 16.
BaJo regretting his decision about now...
And give up a cool nickname like Bacon?

But, yeah, I have to think playing for your home country, even in Euro qualifiers, and now potentially Euro Championship would be at least as good, if not better than going through CONCACAF qualifying to mostly sit on the bench in the WC.
kid got to play in the WC... in Brazil. and might do a couple more if he stays healthy.

much longer shot to do that with Iceberg.

Also, the shot at things like endorsements are much higher in the US than they are in Iceland.

The whole thing is awesome - flying a drone with the flag in a stadium where Albanians had been banned, to pulling the flag down to the brawl.
