Tevez + Mascherano were linked to Kia Joorabchian of MSI....he was going to buy West Ham, and they transferred the two of those guys over illegally (kinda).

 I'll never forget the people #####ing about how Tevez shouldn't be allowed to play, then he scored that tremendous turnaround winner vs. United on the last day of the year a few years ago to keep West Ham in the EPL

Big final day in the Bundesliga tomorrow.

Wolfsburg host Werder Bremen who are 10th in the table and just played Wednesday in the UEFA Cup final. With a win or a draw Wolfsburg win their first ever German crown.

Bayern München host VfB Stuttgart in the battle for second or first if Wolfsburg stumble. Second is important because the top two in Germany auto qualify for the Champions League, third has to play in the qualifiers.

Spots 4 and 5 are for the Europa Cup.

It looks like Gol TV is going to be showing the Wolfsburg/Bremen and Bayern/Stuttgart games at the same time. I'm not sure how they will be doing it, but I will be watching.

Wolfsburg take the title with a 5-1 win over Werder Bremen. They went undefeated, 16-1-0, at home for the season outscoring their opponents 51-13. Bayern secured second and a Champions League spot with a 2-1 win over Stuttgart. The final table tops off like this:

Tevez couldn't be happy about being pulled for a Korean guy. I'm just saying.
Sky Sports just reported that Liverpool's offering 20 million pounds for Tevez
Excellent (I think).
You are correct to think that.
I've been a diehard Liverpool fan for less than two weeks, so I try to avoid unqualified statements. The only thing I know for sure is that Steven Gerrard is a ####### badass.

 here we go

 Hull City's fans storm the field at the KC Stadium after the 1-0 loss. I don't think I've ever seen fans storm the field after a loss before.

Rangers beat Dundee United to take the SPL crown and avoid Celtic from making it four in a row. Although he didn't score, Edu played the full 90 minutes and firmed up his chances to the full-time starter next year. DMB however didn't even suit up and looks like he is on his way out although he does get "credited" with a championship since he had at least 10 appearances for Rangers this year.

Glad I bought that Rangers shirt when I was in Glasgow a few weeks back, I can wear it proudly!

They can complete their own double by beating Falkirk next week and winning the Scottish Cup.

Staying in the EPL is a big thing.
Oh, I know....it's like a 20 million pound difference. It's just funny to see a bunch of fans rush the field after their team loses.
Plus, as fans of the game, next year's season tickets allow them to see ManU, Liverpool and Chelsea rather than Doncaster, Blackpool and Barnsley.

Back after a nice long trip through Boston, Monteral, and Quebec City (I'm engaged now BTW). Good to see this thread is still here.

My Atleti is coming on strong at the end of the year. They just beat Athletic Bilbao in San Mames 4-1 on 3 goals by my boy Forlán. He passed Eto'o for el Pichichi and has a shot at the Golden Boot for all of Europe, which would be his 2nd (he won one with Villarreal).

They play Almería at home next week for the final game of the season. If they win or draw, they're in Champions, but if they lose and Villarreal beat Mallorca, they fall back to UEFA. Forza Atleti will be out en mass for that game.

Congrats on the engagement. Burnley joined Wolves and Birmingham City today, beating Sheffield United 1-0. Losing a play-off final has got to be soul crushing for fans.

Well, I'm afraid that I'm not man enough to follow a team in the Championship. So my Geordie fandom is officially on hiatus. I guess I'll try following Arsenal exclusively next year.

Stuttgarts Mario Gomez might come to Bayern after all. Looks like there will be a decission soon. Other possibilities are Real Madrid, AC Mailand und Manchester City from what I read. If he comes to Bayern they might part with Luca Toni.

They should part with Toni, though it would have been ideal if they could have kept Podolski.

Stuttgart had a great run at the end. Unvortunatelly it wasn´t enough. Magath deserved the title with Wolfsburg. He will take over Schalke now. he has a impressive winning record with different clubs. I hope he stays with one for a longer periode and builts something special.

Hofgenheim still finished seventh, quiet impressive after the injuries.

Congrats on the engagement.Fortunately for Atleti, Almeria doesn't have anything to play for this weekend. Their position in La Primera next year has long been secured, and they can't move up from their present position. They've also been playing poorly of late, having been shut out by Espanyol and Betis. And there's always the potential for giving Almeria a maletin to make things go more smoothly. If Atletico can't get a point at home against such an opponent, they don't really deserve the Champions League spot.

What I find interesting is what will take place at Valencia following the season. They now will miss out on sorely needed Champs League money, so Villa, Silva and company will be up for grabs. There are a good number of quality players on that roster - I wonder how much money some of those guys will fetch this summer.

No, but you did, IIRC. Something about Fulham finishing higher than 13th. Don't remember what the bet was though.

The US has two huge games coming up.

They first play in Costa Rica where they have never won and then have a game 3 days later in Chicago (at Soldier Field and not Toyota park for some reason) against a good Honduran side. These two games will go a long way in determining the ease of qualifying for 2010.

Here is the initial 24 man roster for the 2 games. Still no Cherundolo and an interesting choice in bringing back Benny into camp..

Roster

GOALKEEPERS (2): Brad Guzan (Aston Villa), Tim Howard (Everton)

DEFENDERS (9): Carlos Bocanegra (Rennes), Jonathan Bornstein (Chivas USA), Danny Califf (Midtjylland), Jay DeMerit (Watford), Frankie Hejduk (Columbus Crew), Oguchi Onyewu (Standard de Liege), Heath Pearce (Hansa Rostock), Jonathan Spector (West Ham United), Marvell Wynne (Toronto FC)

MIDFIELDERS (8): Freddy Adu (Monaco), DaMarcus Beasley (Rangers), Michael Bradley (Borussia Mönchengladbach), Maurice Edu (Rangers), Benny Feilhaber (Aarhus), Sacha Kljestan (Chivas USA), Pablo Mastroeni (Colorado Rapids), José Francisco Torres (Pachuca)

FORWARDS (5): Jozy Altidore (Xerez), Brian Ching (Houston Dynamo), Charlie Davies (Hammarby), Clint Dempsey (Fulham), Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy)

The US has the following 5 game schedule. Should be a good opportunity for some one to shine or kill their chances.

Costa Rica: WCQ (away)

Honduras: WCQ (home)

Italy: Confederations Cup (in South Africa)

Brazil: Confederations Cup (in South Africa)

Egypt: Confederations Cup (in South Africa)

No, no bet was lost to Christo or anyone else. It was simply time to step-up on the marriage/family front.

I told my gf that this in no way changes my plans to be in South Africa in June of 2010. Some things take precedence. The wedding *might* be in Venezuela though, and if so, who knows when we'll take a honeymoon.

Hottest women on the planet... physically and emotionally- congrats and good luck with all of that. any reason you can't just honeymoon down there? one of those islands... Stuttgart striker opts for Bayern switch

26.05.2009

Mario Gomez has come to a decision about his future – and has publicly declared his desire to join Bayern this summer. The 23-year-old VfB Stuttgart striker announced his intentions on Tuesday before joining up with the Germany squad for a post-season tour to Asia. A transfer deal taking the sought-after goal-getter to Munich is now little more than a formality.

Gomez reached his decision after talks with the Bayern board of directors. “I’m looking forward to joining Bayern Munich,“ commented the striker, the subject of firm offers from a number of leading European clubs. “Bayern is something special. I want to go all-out with this club in the league next season, and I’m really looking forward to playing in the Champions League.“

Rummenigge delighted

The Munich camp is equally delighted at the news. “Bayern Munich FC is very happy that Mario Gomez has decided in favour of our club,“ commented FCB chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, describing Gomez as “a top-class striker, and one of Germany’s best goalscorers. He’s ended up with around 20 Bundesliga goals in each of the last three seasons. We’re looking forward to having him here.“

The player finished the 2008-9 campaign with a personal best 24 top flight goals. Between 2004 and 2009, Gomez scored a total of 63 goals in 121 Bundesliga appearances for Stuttgart. On his return from Asia next week, he will travel to Munich for final contract talks before inking a deal with Bayern.

Fifth new face

Gomez will be the fifth confirmed new signing for the coming season. Bayern have already secured the services of Anatoliy Tymoschuk (Zenit St. Petersburg), Ivica Olic (Hamburger SV), Alexander Baumjohann (Borussia Monchengladbach) and Andreas Görlitz. The latter returns to FCB after completing a two-year loan spell with Karlsruhe.

Germany’s most successful club is likely to bring in one or two more fresh faces this summer. Right-back was the position posing the biggest problem at the moment, Uli Hoeneß said on Bavarian TV’s Monday evening Blickpunkt Sport show. “There’s a bit of a hole there.” The board will continue actively seeking out candidates before the club closes for the official vacation period.
Magath deserved the title with Wolfsburg. He will take over Schalke now. he has a impressive winning record with different clubs. I hope he stays with one for a longer periode and builts something special.

Magath is a great coach and was screwed by Bayern. A guy that plays in my co-ed league is from Germany. I was talking to him this past Sunday and learned he is from the same town as Magath and went to school with him. He was very happy for Felix.Hoffenheim is a great story.

no way any work is getting done today.

Heading out of here in a few hours. Wife is expecting to come home from work to see a drunk (and hopefully happy) husband.

:lmao: :lmao:

I'd like to think that Barcelona can make a game out of this without half the defense, but it seems tough. We have to score first to have a chance today. Looks like Henry and Iniesta will be in. I would prefer a 3-4-3 as Toure or Keita would be a huge liability in the back.

The good thing for Barca is that it almost feels like we are playing with house money. It was really shocking to get past Chelsea the way we did and who could have expected this turnaround after the dismal team last season.

From what I read Bayern may be looking for Dario Srna for the right back position. He would also bring a excellent offensive game with him. I doubt he would be cheap (at least 10 million).

I won't get a chance to watch my DVR of today's game until like 11 PM tonight....and someone's definitely going to ruin the ending for me at my game tonight

cant get home til 4:30. Good news is i dont have anyone that will ruin it for me (so as long as i can turn on the DVR without seing the score, i should be alright)

I don\'t know anything about MLS. $2.00 (or the foreign equivalent) Fulham stays in the top half next year!
Roy Hodgson hailed \"the finest moment\" of his managerial career last night - despite Fulham\'s season ending in defeat.

Tottenham\'s loss at Anfield ensured the Cottagers of seventh place and the highest finish in their history as well as a spot in the UEFA\'s all-new Europa League next term.

And while Leon Osman\'s quality double gave Everton the perfect tonic for their FA Cup Final shootout with Chelsea next week, Craven Cottage gave Hodgson and his side a standing ovation on their lap of honour after a season none of them could have envisaged.

Less than 18 months ago, Hodgson replaced Lawrie Sanchez with Fulham destined for the drop, only to complete a last-day escape.

Twelve months on, they are bound for Europe and introduced as \"the record-breaking heroes of 2009\". The 61-year-old Englishman beamed: \"I\'ve had a long career and been very lucky but I told the players I will remember this year for ever.

\"I don\'t like ranking achievements but this will always be my finest moment.

\"I will probably forget the game pretty quickly, but I will never forget what we have done and that\'s what I told the players.\"

Hogdson\'s 33-year management career has seen him take charge of 11 clubs including Blackburn and Inter as well as three international sides, winning a total of six titles in Sweden and Denmark.

He added: \"It\'s a very proud day, even if we\'re disappointed with the result. Of course, being in Europe means we will have to bolster the squad. I\'ve probably set the bar very high now - so I will be doing my hardest to press that bar as low as I possibly can!\"

Hodgson deserved his day in the glorious sun but on the pitch Everton fully merited their first win at the Cottage since 1966. They were better in most departments from the outset, even though they could have been forgiven for having their minds on Wembley.

While Sir Alex Ferguson fielded a \"Carling Cup\" side at Hull and Guus Hiddink left out Frank Lampard and Alex at Sunderland, only Marouane Fellaini of David Moyes\' likely Wembley line-up was missing.

They should have been ahead inside three minutes, as Louis Saha, impressive throughout, smashed a header from Osman\'s right-wing cross against the bar with Mark Schwarzer a spectator.

And if they had to wait until the final minute of the first half to get their noses ahead, it was certainly not overdue.

I may not even go to a bar since it will be so largely in favor of ManU and I will likely be the only Barca fan there.
I'd bet the hispanic community are going to be heavily behind Barca... can you find a Central/South American bar for coverage?
I don't really know of many Central/South Amnerican bars in Colubmia. It isn't really the beacon for latino immigration. This bar should have a decent supply of neutrals, it was fairly packed for even the Real-Barca showdown. Which was actually the last game I watched there. Actually, I think I might need a superstition today.

Shouldn't be a problem. There are two bars in the area that are big soccer bars and they should be packed. This one is run by a local radio talk show host who knows nothing about soccer. He barely mentions the sport on his show. Like DP I'm hoping to avoid the throngs of Manchester fans by going there.

I thought you told me that Bobby's was closing?
