Watched a bit of the Atletico game. Seemed really uninspired. Kun was good but thought both Forlan and Maxi were not in good form. Has to be strange to be playing CL games before the season starts. Also, that Leto kid for Panathinaikos looks really, really good. And my colchoneros are into the CL group phase!!!!
Nice job in taking down Pana, boys!
The other big team to make it through today was Olympic Lyon, who blasted Anderlecht 8-1 on aggregate. They'll do some damage in the group phase.
The other 3 teams to make it through to group are: Debreceni, Zürich, and Mac. Haifa. Fiorentina / Sporting Portugal is the game to watch tomorrow. Arsenal is a gimme as are Olympiakos and Stuttgart.
Can't wait to see the draw. Obviously no team wants to draw Arsenal or Atlético in their group. I hope that my boys get to play against Liverpool again. That was fun last time.

Could you be referring to Charles Renkin. I remember reading some pretty high praise for him a year or so ago. He's 15. Anyway, yesterday, he and Joseph-Claude Gyau signed with 1899 Hoffenheim.I think it might be Stefan Jerome... but I remember this ESPN article being different, so it might be another kid.Not sure if it's the kid you're talking about, but I've heard great, great, things about Jack McInerney. I don't remember where, though.I am drawing a blank. Here is the current U17 and U15 player pools in case it rings any bellsFWIW- there was an article on ESPN.com a year or so ago about a kid in our youth system... the son of former pro- who was looking like the next "guy"- wish I could remember his name. I caught him play v Brasil for the u15s (maybe?) on TV- tallish, quick and fast and very attack minded. Seemed to have caught the attention of Brasil- they consistently collapsed 2 or 3 defenders on him whenever he got near the ball and he still tried to attack them with ball at feet.
Anybody know this kid's name? I watched part of that game and immediately started thinking about LD and Adu as youth players when I watched him.

Good god, what a story... So easy to forget how much we have here in the US- even when things are bleak.Amazing story, and look forward to seeing more about him- but Charles Bimbe Renken wasn't the kid. excellent! This is the type of start we all hoped for so that he can keep on the field. If anyone finds a link of the goal, please post...Jozy scored his first goal today for Hull against Southend in the Carling Cup.
I remember reading that story last year. Obviously the first big test will be the U17 World Cup for him. I sadly am always skeptical about the ages though of the African immigrants. Dominating a U14 league was he was 10 just sounds a bit too good to be true.Although I am always hopeful...Good god, what a story... love the UEFA coefficient system having Chelsea & Liverpool ranked ahead of ManU.Link to Liverpool having done anything lately?
Scottish FA calls for 2 game suspension. As an Arsenal fan and as a fan of soccer, I hope Eduardo does get suspended. I am so sick of the blatant diving and feigning of serious injury that I don't mind at all if an Arsenal player is made an example. Anything that might help to prevent these sorts of incidents in the future, I am all for.And the award for Best Actor goes to....

Eduardo, Arsenal vs. Celtic, August 26, 2009!!!
Thanks for tracking that down. The first goal was a real cracker. The one by Jozy was very nice as well. I hope Jozy can keep it up and bring a whole ton of confidence into the reamainder of qualifying for the U.S.prefontaine said:excellent! I'm guessing finishing 1st and 2nd helps"The club coefficient is determined by the results of a club in European club competition in the last five seasons, and the league coefficient. The club coefficient is 33% of the league coefficient plus the number of points earned by the club in the five seasons. Before 2004 the contribution of the country coefficient was 50%. The points earned by a club in the preliminary rounds are not counted."

whoever get Wolfsburg won't be happyReal Madrid, Inter, and Lyon are some serious powerhouses in the 2nd pool...
We could really use a strong performance out of him against El Salvador. This is not only a relative must win for the US, it is likely the last time we can gain some ground on goal differential. Obviously a 1-0 win will be very much welcomed but a 3 goal win would be fantastic.prefontaine said:excellent!
