Landy-cakes!

Galaxy open to Donovan loan switch to Everton

LA Galaxy have made a surprise u-turn and are now ready to let Landon Donovan return to Everton in the New Year.

The American international was a big hit at Goodison when he moved there on a four-month loan deal at the start of the year.

Donovan became a fans' favourite at the club and claimed he would be open to returning there if possible.

Everton were keen on a permanent deal for the 28-year-old forward but Galaxy insist he is not for sale at any price.

The Major League Soccer side have, however, decided to let Donovan move back to Everton in the winter having previously stated they were not prepared to let him go.

And now David Moyes is planning on offering the striker the chance to return to Goodison, with a deal expected to be offered when the transfer window opens.

Id give Adabeyor and 50 million to United for Rooney
I dont believe he will really leave United. This has to be about demanding a new contract, nothing more.
They approached him about a contract extension uninitiated a couple months ago, but he shut down the talks. You have to think about all this garbage with his personal life has him thinking about moving.

Haven´t seen the game but what happend between Clue and Bayern München yesterday sounds fishy to me. I hope I am wrong.

I'm recording the replay right now and will watch it tonight. All I know is Gomez scored Bayern's lone goal and with the two Cluj eigentoren Bayern won 3-2.

I loved watching Landon play in the EPL last year but I really believe that at his age he needs to get some time off. Since he is going to be at a relatively advanced age in 2014 and to keep his legs under him I am hope he takes some time off in the coming years.

From ESPN.com
Landon Donovan says he hopes to return to Everton for another loan spell when the January transfer window opens.

Donovan, 28, scored two goals and claimed three assists in ten Premier League games last season as he proved a real short-term success at Goodison.

A second loan deal may be possible when MLS takes a break, and the LA Galaxy winger would certainly welcome the chance to work under David Moyes again.

"It would be hard to say no," Donovan told BBC Radio Merseyside. "I really hope that, if it's not this year, I get to go back there and play again. But if you asked me now I would lean towards a little more uncertainty.

"Last time when David Moyes called I was extremely excited about it and I just have to make sure that I get the appropriate rest."

did not know that... smart move by the Toffees.
For a club with such a tight budget, this could be a huge deal for them. If they can pick up £5m or so that can go a long way for them. And it could be a huge deal for US fans. One reason that LD isn't there is because Moyes couldn't figure out a way to fit him in his budget. I believe MLS was asking for $16m. A check for Wayne could turn a loan deal in the winter window into a full on purchase.

Yeah- i was thinking that too... didn't want to jinx it.

Someone just had a clear breakaway 1-1against Barca and stopped because he heard a whistle in the crowd and thought he was offsides

A whole lot of guys retiring this year... always liked Eddie.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Former United States international midfielder Eddie Lewis plans to retire from the game at the end of this season, the player said Wednesday. The 36-year-old, who represented the U.S. at the World Cup in 2002 and 2006, is in his third season with Los Angeles Galaxy, having previously played for English clubs Fulham, Preston North End, Leeds United and Derby County. "I'm so proud to have been able to have had the experiences that the sport of soccer has afforded me," Lewis said in a statement issued by the Galaxy. "I have played in two World Cups, in one of the world's biggest leagues and so much more, but more importantly, along the way I have been able to do things that I never otherwise would have." Galaxy general manager and head coach Bruce Arena paid a glowing tribute to Lewis, who scored 10 goals for his country in 82 appearances. "Eddie Lewis is arguably the finest left-sided midfielder in the history of U.S. soccer," Arena said. "His play in the 2002 and 2006 World Cups, MLS (Major League Soccer) and English football secures his place in the Hall of Fame." Lewis began his MLS career with the San Jose Clash in 1996 and stayed with the club until the end of the 1999 season before signing with Fulham. He then played in Britain for nearly nine years before joining the Galaxy in August 2008.

FIFA Suspends Officials in Vote-Selling ScandalBy THE ASSOCIATED PRESSPublished: October 20, 2010 ZURICH (AP) — FIFA provisionally suspended two executive committee members and four lower-ranking officials Wednesday in a World Cup vote-selling scandal and said it would continue investigating all six. Two executive committee members, Amos Adamu of Nigeria and Reynald Temarii of Tahiti, were barred from all soccer-related duty until the investigation ends, said Claudio Sulser, chairman of FIFA’s ethics committee. Four former executive members — Slim Aloulou, Amadou Diakite, Ahongalu Fusimalohi and Ismael Bhamjee — were suspended while FIFA investigates whether they breached ethical rules. The panel will continue investigating whether two unnamed bidders competing for either the 2018 or 2022 World Cup engaged in collusion. “Today is a sad day for football,” Sepp Blatter, FIFA’s president, said, asking for time to restore the association’s credibility. “We have to fight for respect and especially we have to fight that the people here in charge of FIFA behave as they should do.” FIFA began its investigations after a British newspaper, The Sunday Times, said that Adamu and Temarii offered to sell their votes for funding toward soccer projects. The Sunday Times gave FIFA full video copies and transcripts of its evidence. Undercover reporters filmed Adamu requesting $800,000 to build four artificial turf fields in Nigeria and for the money to be paid to him directly. Temarii was filmed asking for $2.3 million to finance a soccer academy in Auckland, New Zealand. FIFA’s executive committee will select the hosts in voting on Dec. 2. The 2018 tournament will be in Europe, with four candidates: England, Russia and joint bids by Belgium-the Netherlands and Spain-Portugal. The 2022 host race is between the United States, Australia, Japan, Qatar and South Korea.

A co-worker buddy comes into my office today - he's a Manchester native and lifelong City fan - and has just concluded a couple days of meetings with some guys from AON in Houston. They all have the ManU logo printed on the back of their business cards! He said it was like a gut punch when he saw it and none of the guys in Houston had any concept or understanding as to what it meant to him.

City already up 2-0 and Adebayor has both. Way too much space and Silva and Johnson are going to town creating chance after chance. Both goals were class but otherwise I think Adebayor is playing horribly as he has fumbled a couple of point blank chances trying to be too cute. This is the type of game that City could score 10 if they want to.

October 20, 2010, 1:31 pm Rooney Says His Ambitions Outpace Man United’sBy JEFFREY MARCUSWayne Rooney confirmed he wants to leave Manchester United, not because of the scrutiny over his personal life, or the fans, or tempting offers from exotic places, but because the club’s management won’t match his ambitions.“I met with David Gill last week and he did not give me any of the assurances I was seeking about the future squad,” Rooney said in a statement Wednesday. “I then told him that I would not be signing a new contract. I was interested to hear what Sir Alex had to say yesterday and surprised by some of it.”Rooney, who has won three Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League in six years at Manchester United, called his manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, “a genius,” and played down any rift between the two and said his desire to leave was based on his conversations with Gill, the team’s chief executive, about the club’s commitment to spend money on new players.“It is absolutely true, as he said, that my agent and I have had a number of meetings with the club about a new contract,” Rooney said. “During those meetings in August I asked for assurances about the continued ability of the club to attract the top players in the world.”“For me it’s all about winning trophies — as the club has always done under Sir Alex,” the England forward added. “Because of that I think the questions I was asking were justified.”

I have no idea why a MUFC shirt deal is worth 80M GBP to Aon. I realize United is a global brand but which customers are Aon trying to reach?Same deal with Etihad and Emirates. They have a lot of money to burn and Europeans are more likely to take a trip to Middle East than we am, but I've never had an overwhelming urge to visit Dubai while I'm watching a game. :goodposting:

I realize they haven't made a big splash and all recently in the transfer market, but they have lost all of 1 EPL titles in a row and it's been a solid 2 years since they won the Champions League. Does it seem a little off to anyone else that a player would say it's all about winning trophies and that's why he wants to leave Manchester United? Both sides appear to be doing a lot of posturing and sound pretty ridiculous (SAF's press conference was pure comic gold)

I hear you... but looking at what players are coming in vs leaving, I can understand his position.... a little.

But if you did, would you think of using Emirates Air?

So looking over those CL scores... Aris playing reminded me of EJ and Adu. Where the #### is Adu these days?
somewhere there's a bench
a bench would be fantastic for Adu. From what I have been seeing, he does not even rate the bench these days almost never making the 18 man squad. :shrug:The kid is only 21, if he is to turn around his career he has to get out of Europe, it is just not working.

doghouse
as we all know, this is a dog house that Adu seems to carry on his back like a turtle. Doesn't matter the coach, the country or the league, he always finds a way to piss off his coaches.
but seriously- does he even have a team right now?

According to our guys who do business there, Emirates is by far the best airline for middle east travel. I think its funny how they switched in one season from Chelsea to its hated rival and is now the gunners' shirt and stadium sponsor, replacing the beloved Highbury. I've got two old Chelsea jerseys in my collection - Damian Duff from way back and Drogba from his first year with CFC, both with the old Fly Emirates logo on the front. Its hard to wear those anymore because it just confuses people.

It's not bad as a shirt sponsor. Fly Emirates is about as dignified as a large text block on a shirt can be. At least it doesn't have a betting phone number or FX like a pro underneath it.
