Counting the Wolfsburg match on Saturday Bayern has given up 8 goals in the last 90 minutes.

So DP, does Breno look as bad as I told you?

Has Toni touched the ball?
:lmao: I used to do a good Toni impression....have someone cross the ball and intentionally head it a mile wide. Then get a wide-eyed look of shock on your face. Run your hands through your hair, clasp your hands like you're praying and shake your hands while mumbling and looking upward. Then shake your head and jog away.

Good, but you have to end up on the ground for it to be perfect.

Toni pulled one of these a few minutes ago diving to get a penalty. I think he forgot that for that to work you have to be onside though.Schwienstieger doesn't even seem to be on the field either.

Everytime I think Puyol has lost a step he proves me wrong.

Don't understand this sub, Ze is making the best runs for Bayern today. Keita just came in to give us two holding mids to contain his runs and they switch him out for Sosa?

Drogba!

3-1 Chelsea at Anfield!
What's happening today?
Well, the 2nd leg of these today's games are starting to look like non-events.
Wow just noticed that game was at Anfield.
It has been a while since Chelsea has given up 4 goals at Stamford Bridge.
Yeah, the idea that Liverpool has to go to Stamford Bridge and score at minimum 3 goals pretty much ends this. And Bayern has to beat Barca by at least 4 at home and given Barca will almost certainly get at least one goal, they probably need at least 6. I mean imagine Bayern plays perfect and gets up by 3 only to see Barca get one back. Now they would still need 3 more goals. These ties are over.

Of course the entire Barcelona team was brilliant tonight, but the way that Pique, Marquez, and Toure completely shut down Toni and Schweinsteiger was particularly noteworthy. Marquez also did well handling Ribery on the few occasions he got past Alves and picked up a suspension going into a meaningless game(something Barca has done often this year). Great game from Marquez.

Also, Demichelis' teams have been outscored 15-2 in their last 3 matches. Ouch.

Looks like I was an idiot about the ESPN Classic thing. Apparently they're replaying it tomorrow at 5. Sorry, everyone.
BOOOOOOO:XIt's not like people who came to this thread didn't see all the spoilers.BTW, I'm pretty shocked at the turn that Chelski had at Anfield. Obviously they were out for blood and it showed, even if they did go down 1-0 early. That said, there absolutely no reason to give up 2 goals on corners. That's ridiculous and Liverpool should be ashamed at their defending on set pieces. I've heard it was bad before, but still.

The second goal killed Liverpool. I thought they had the better of the play in the first half (with the exception of some scary defensive breakdowns that Drogba managed to waste). Torres was certainly very bright in the first half. Kuyt started well and wilted in the second half too.I did think that both Arbeola and Lucas had pretty awful games. Not having Mascherano really hurt Liverpool (which was even more evident with the way Essien just put the clamps down on Gerrard). You can't overstate it enough. Michael Essien is really, really good. He can go box to box one game, and play a mean holding role the next.

I thought Essien and Ballack did a great job today and I think credit has to go to Hiddink as this looks like a completely different team. This team was so strong after going down early, then played very tough and kept attacking to the end. I really thought they would draw 11 guys back and play for the 1-1 in the second half, but that's because I'm so accustomed to Morinho and Grant running the show in the CL the past 4 years.

The second goal killed Liverpool.
Don't get me started on this one. Shouldn't have counted, a Chelsea player was WAAAAY offside.
?? It was a direct header off a corner.
I think he must have meant the third goal. Malouda looked offside to me when Ballack released him down the flank. Not by a ton, though. Maybe a step. Nothing I would even complain about if I were a Liverpool fan.
No, I was talking about the 2nd. And when it comes to soccer, I'm still dumb. :bag:Third goal was legit, IMO.

I don't believe its possible to be offside on a corner that is taken directly. If its flicked on or passed somehow, a player could be offside. Ivanovic headed the corner directly into the goal, so I'm pretty certain it is not possible for any player to be in an offside position.

Yeah, no offsides on a corner.Better watch them before it gets taken down...

No way Drogba is offside on the third one...maybe Malouda on the left wing, but that's iffy.

(Scoobygang already addressed this, I just noticed)

Just got back in town and watched 3 of the 4 games (didn't think Man U-Porto was going to be good).

Two amazing goals on the Arsenal-Villareal game. Senna just crushes the ball when he hits it. I would run as fast as I could away from one of those.

Barca is spectacular. Can't believe that BS call on Messi. Hopefully that card doesn't add up to anything (do they reset after the round?)

No one can beat them when they play at their best. No one. Bring it, Man U.

Drogba is not the player he used to be. I know he got a goal, but I don;t think he played very well at all. Great win by Chelsea, but I don't see them getting by anyone else.

2 away goals for Porto? Is Man U in trouble? I hope not. I want Barca to knock them off.

God that was crap. I'm really glad I left early for that. Liverpool looked great for about twenty minutes or so, then pretty much everyone not named Torres, Alonso and Kuyt seemed to mail it in. Aureilio and Reira we're pretty much worthless. Skrtel and Lucas weren't far behind. Gerrard cannot handle half the fielf by himself. The entire back four were just not together. It was just painful to watch.

I don't know how they could have defended any worse on corners. And its not like they didn't keep giving them up. I could have gotten my head to the ball more often than any Liverpool player. I would have hit it nowhere, but I still would have gotten to it.

If it weren't for Reina Drogba would have had a hat trick yesterday.

Yossi could have made it interesting, but his first touch let him down late yesterday when he tried to trap the ball inside the box and then got his shot blocked.

Acutally, it was painful how poorly Aureilio and Reira played. All I remember Reira doing was kicking the ball into a defender, then running past him surprised that the ball wasn't coming with him. Meh on Arbeloa. No one looked good in the second half.

And what the hell was Rafa watching that it took him 66 and then 72 minutes to get Riera and Fabio out. The guy makes my head want to explode sometimes.

Bad news for the Arsenal supporters among us. William Gallas is out for the rest of the season due to a knee injury sustained in the Champions League match on Tuesday. Also, Almunia will miss 3 weeks with an ankle injury and Clichy will miss at least 2 weeks. So much for the squad getting healthy...., the Gallas injury severely hurts their chances going forward in my opinion. I am somewhat looking forward to seeing Gibbs and Fabianski get their shot with some meaningful first team minutes however.

wow - this is terrible for Arsenal with the FA Cup seminfinal against Chelsea on 4/18.At least they are pretty well clear of Villa to hold the 4th spot in the premiership.

Yes, but Arsenal still has a game remaining against Liverpool, Chelsea and Man U. I would hope that they could hold off Villa(and Everton for that matter), but it's no slam dunk.

I don't believe yellow cards re-set anymore in the tournament, so am pretty sure Messi will carry that one throughout.Drogba missed some good chances obviously, but I thought he played great yesterday. TimesUK's ratings made him the man of the match.

Some great commentary, guys  I'm also  that ESPN ran the score highlights on their ticker... I tried my best to avoid it, but the damn thing FLASHES every time there's an updated score.

DIdn't catch the Barca game- was it really as much of a trouncing as the scoreline? 4-0 at half suggests an old fashioned can-o-whooparse.

I thought the first half of this game was pretty great- both sides were killing themselves getting around the field and moving the ball forward with class. Some bad slipups too... which isn't too much of suprise considering the pace. 2nd half... ok. Chelsea deserved the goals, IMO as Liverpool seemed to run out of gas.

I agree with Cletius that Drogba had a good game- he worked his ### off and continually got himself in great positions (that 3rd goal was not as easy as he made it look). But those two missed sitters in the first half are almost inexcusable... missed a 2nd half easy opportunity or two as well, IIRC. If the scoreline were different, we'd be having much different things to say about Drogba.

I'm still suprised at the opposite directions Lampard and Gerrard have gone. A few years' back, I thought Lampard was England's great hope- but he's been consitently ite where Gerrard has become one of the game's best. Today was a good example... although Essien (who I think is arguably the game's best holding MF) did a nice job on Gerrard- Chelsea is SO much better with Essien in there.

I think Kuyt is fantastic, but he disappeared in the 2nd half- usually when his work-rate allows him to shine. Liverpool looked like they ran out of steam after that 2nd goal.

Ivonic (sp?) was shockingly brilliant today, even if he hadn't scored a goal. I was suprised by his pace, strength and ability to shut down passing lanes and stop people one v one. Obivously, he's not bad in the air either. Wow- where has this guy been?

I've been a non-fan of Riera since the first time I've seen him- consistently makes the wrong choices on and off the ball. I don't get how he plays ahead of Benayoun.

And LOL about that Terry hair comment... I was thinking something less droll about it myself.

I was multi-tasking during the Chelsea-Liverpool game. 3rd of the day at 1am. I guess I only caught the Drogba mess-ups. Always seemed to be whining too. Barca-Bayern was a worse beatdown than the score let in. Could have been a lot worse in the first half alone.

Back to the Messi yellowcard, wouldn't it have been smart for him to pick up his second at the end of the game so he missed the return leg of this blowout instead of maybe missing a more important game later? Anyone ever see something like that happen?

Bundesliga = 2nd rate. Face it Deutchland, you guys need to invest in order to play with the big boys.

Look @ Barça's payroll compared to Bayern. It's likely 1.5x or more.

That is what Marquez did by picking up his second for time wasting. Messi should have done it too.
