I finally caught the Barca-Bayern game on tivo. That was an utter beatdown. I'm not sure Bayern had control of the ball over the midfield line in the entire first half. I guess Ribery made a run or two but I'm almost positive Toni didn't touch the ball. Their offense skill is useless if they have no possession and Barca had probably 80%+ of possession. Seriously. Guys like Iniesta seemed to have all kinds of space and eventually it leads to chances when you have finishers like they do.

I think to beat Barca, you need to take it to them. Control the ball and attack, attack, attack. I really don't like Klinsmann's philosophy of getting 8 people behind the ball. Maybe it could work if Bayern had world class defenders who never make mistakes, but they don't. Barca's big 3 just play so well together that they are going to get chances no matter what you do so you can't just sit back and allow them to be creative. Obviously Barcelona is the better side but the philosophy Bayern came with pretty much ended this one too early.

I'm pretty sure the Fulham game I just watched was a taped one from yesterday, but nice to see Dempsey score a brace and essentially guarantee that Fulham will be in the EPL next year as they now have 43 points in 8th position.

My Atleti finally won an away game. They nearly threw it away in the last 15 mins against Depor though. Barely hanging on in 6th with 46 pts. Thankfully Valencia onlu has 49 pts, and therefore they STILL have a shot at the 4th CL position.

Optimal result for Arsenal yesterday too with a 3-3 draw between Villa and Everton.

Arsenal are +8 on Villa and +9 on Everton with 6 to play.

Steve Goff is reporting that the latest club being considered for the MLS All Star game is Z's beloved Atletico Madrid.

 Dempsey had a fairly mediocre game, IMO- despite the brace. But I like the rapport he and Conceski (sp?) have on the left- he still hasn't quite worked it out with Zamora yet, but it's getting there.WTF is wrong with City? After looking great in the first half, they looked woeful in the 2nd. Yeah- couple stars resting up for UEFA- but even when they came in, not much going on. I'm guessing coach = (right or wrong)Oh... it's the first look I've had at Sturridge- wow. That kid is incredible on the ball- a real gem for England's future. Not sure where he typically plays- up front? Flank? Anybody know more about him?

:hifive: .... "zed" His head is going to :xplode:
I'd be down with people calling me "Zed" if I get to watch El Kun and Forlán play live in the US.Otherwise, I think OC Zed has previous claims to the "Zed" mantle.
I meant the :headxplode: about Atleti, not the zed bit- can't imagine you getting that worked up about eurocising your name.

Does anyone have a Champions League TV schedule for the US?
Tuesday ESPN2 had Chelsea v Liverpool live and ESPN Classic has Bayern v Barcelona on at 5.Wednesday ESPN2 has Porto v Manchester live and ESPN Classic has Arsenal v Villarreal on at 7.

The All Star game is in Salt Lake this year I believe. Are you going to travel out if they do land AM as the opponent?
Yes, I'd travel out there to see it. I think I could bring a few friends with me as well. I don´t have $$ for a real vacation as my gf and I owe a cumulative $3k+ to the gov't for taxes. We had a nice trip planned for Montreal, Quebec, and Boston, but it looks like that's now dead. However, I think I could swing the trip out to Salt Lake... Any soccer FBGs live there? I would be sporting my Atlético scarf, jersey, and hat too.¡Forza Atleti!

ESPN Deportes also shows the game that ESPN 2 doesn't live. Anyone know if Sentanta has a game tomorrow? My buddy is a Chelsea fan and wants to go to a bar, but I know Barca is on Deportes and not sure if it will be on Setanta. No bat has Deportes as Direct TV doesn't carry it.Edit: Looks like Setanta is showing Barca-Bayern"02:30 pm LIVE UEFA Champions League - Quarterfinal 2nd leg: Bayern Munich vs Barcelona"

WSJ is reporting that Hicks Sports Group has defaulted on its interest payments and its banks have declared the debt to be in default.

This could be a really bad day for the Scousers.

I thought I read previously this year that Hicks had already met with potential groups about selling his stake in the club, but balked because he wanted more money. It seemed foolish because he finances are quite public and only look to get worse reducing his leverage in any negotiations on selling. It could have been a dream.

Unfortunately both Bayern and Liverpool are done.Much more interesting games tomorrow.
Pfft. Terry is out for Chelsea and they gave up three goals in eight minutes to Bolton while Liverpool put four on Blackburn without Gerrard. There is the slightest of chances here. There can't possibly be a way for so many 'Pool players to play so poorly at once again. I hope.Officialy 'tarded today.

Pool needs to play exceptionally and Chelski need to absolutely tank.I don't see that happening.BTW, a colleague here at work went to Buenos Aires for 10 days and just got back. He brought me back a Boca Juniors scarf. It's now on display right underneath my Atlético scarf on the wall of my cube. I've got room for one other here, so I'm up for suggestions...Even though he's not a soccer fan, he went to a Boca game while there. It was a Copa Libertadores game against Guarni (I think). Boca was already through and Guarni was out, but Boca still put a whooping on them 3-1.

The CL two-legged structure can create both excitement and boredom where neither would exist in a normal league game. The end of the Liverpool-Chelsea game last week is an example of the former, where it remained exciting to the very end as a goal by either would have dramatically affected today's game. The game today at Stamford Bridge is an example of the latter - a game in which Chelsea could lose 0-2 at home and be popping champagne corks in celebration afterward.I was very wrong last week at halftime when I turned to my colleague (a scouser) and proclaimed that Chelsea would sink back and play for an away 1-1, which would have been a success in the first leg by any measure. While that would have been the case had Morhino or Grant been involved, fortunately for the Blues, Hiddink kept attacking and the result was a beautifull, historic day at Anfield. Today, however, I just don't see any other option but to play defensively from the opening whistle, expecially with JT out. While Chelsea was very embarrassed by Bolton last weekend, those goals were meaningless in the end as all that mattered was the three points. Today, all that matters is advancing, which is unfortuate for the home fans, but I hope and expect they'll all stumble home happy tonight nonetheless.

:D Soccernet Gamecast:

GOAL! Aurelio, instead of crossing, goes for goal and scores. Cech, positioned on his far post, had no no chance. He now looks rather silly, and given the fact that he's wearing an orange jersey and a foam skullcap, that is saying something. Great spot and execution from Aurelio though.

Nobody ever better question my dedication at work. Have interviews goin on today, and I'm sittin here following along on soccernet. Holy crap!!!!! Go Reds!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow... other than a 10 minutes spell after the two Reds' goals, Chelski was horrible in that first half. Torres missed one early on that really would've made things interesting here- not that it isn't already.

Again- small bonus of being out of work- I'm flipping between ESPN2 and Deportes with both on DVR in case I miss something.

Other than Ribery, watching Bayern play is like reading one of those "Pirate" threads... :bleh:

Has it already been mentioned that Iniesta looks a little like Landy-cakes?
