Well, he is Italian.Toni has perfected the art of diving and fouling simultaneously.
I don't think there is a less enjoyable player to watch play.Keita just buried Bayern's chances.Well, he is Italian.Toni has perfected the art of diving and fouling simultaneously.
This is unbelievable.
Flipping back and forth between the games, I was amazed by the difference in speed-of-play between both games. Chelsea and Liverpool were playing balls out from the opening whistle... the Barca v Bayern game looked like a speed-walking event in comparison.I sure wish Bayern would have tried as hard as Liverpool evidently is.

I missed the story- thought he was suspended... he was just benched instead?Wonder how Benitez feels now about leaving Gerrard on the bench....
He has a groin injury. The speculation is that he perhas could have played (at less than 100%) and that Benitez may have felt the CL was out of reach after the result at Anfield last week, and wanted to preserve Gerrard for the EPL run. I don't think anyone knows for certain, but certainly a groin is something that can linger and can be aggravated and worsened if not fully healed.I missed the story- thought he was suspended... he was just benched instead?Wonder how Benitez feels now about leaving Gerrard on the bench....
I am a huge proponent of more offense in soccer and would even be willing to consider rule changes to help it along (like most of the other sports do to help the offense).Soccer around the world tends to average about 2.5-3 goals a game. I would love to see that average closer to 5 goals a game but that would likely take more tinkering with the sport than most people could stomach.if every game could produce 8 goals, the game would be a huge success in the u.s. and probably be no. 2 behind football.
It's fine to want more goals, but I'm not sure I'd want to see the games look like Liverpool/Chelsea from yesterday. Sure, there was tons of drama, but that's because there were just a ton of errors. It wasn't a "good" football game. Petr Cech, in particular, looked like he was playing house team soccer with a bunch of 12 year olds.I am a huge proponent of more offense in soccer and would even be willing to consider rule changes to help it along (like most of the other sports do to help the offense).Soccer around the world tends to average about 2.5-3 goals a game. The lesson from yesterday it seems is that comically crappy goalkeeping makes for entertaining soccer. I think you and I have been critical of Cech for some time now. The neon orange jersey he's taken to this year hasn't helped - he's just a goofball. Reina probably wasn't quite as bad as Cech overall, but his horror moment on Drogba's goal was the howler of the day. It's fine to want more goals, but I'm not sure I'd want to see the games look like Liverpool/Chelsea from yesterday. I think both teams' first goals are in a dead heat for that honor. When you're dressed like a traffic cone with a styrofoam skullcap on your head, it's hard to look much sillier. Cech somehow managed it. There seems to be an epidemic of curious goalkeeper positioning on free kicks. I thought Friedel made a weird choice in the Villa / ManU game a few weeks ago, but Cech gave the guy a straight shot at about 6 feet of the goalmouth. And as the ESPN gamecast said, Cech flapped around like a drunken octopus every time a cross came in.The good news for the Blues is that Drogba is definitely in the mood right now.The lesson from yesterday it seems is that comically crappy goalkeeping makes for entertaining soccer. not sure what service you have but Direct TV allows one to program their DVR via the Direct TV web site. Makes it nice for those times when you do forget.of course, i forgot to Tivo this afternoon's games. weak.

ok. Too bad you can't just call the person who has the log in information and ask them to do it for you (or just give you the log in and you do it yourself).yeah, thats what we have. however, i dont have our log-in info. i'm not the one who pays the bill.not sure what service you have but Direct TV allows one to program their DVR via the Direct TV web site. Unfortunatly, this isnt an option today. Busy work day for all parties (plus the direct TV site is blocked here at work for some reason). O well.ok. Here's to a great April/May....June?The fact that he hits the side netting from there is amazing. The ball is perfectly struck, and placed with perfection. It's a rocket shot, and I agree that the goalie simply didn't know what speed it was going to come at. I think he could have made the save if he had been anticipating a shot, but he appears to only briefly hop and then leap for the ball. I think that shot is savable, but not if the goalie isn't right on his toes anticipating a shot.A beautiful goal indeed. That goal was incredible. Probably the best I have ever seen.
I think this is pretty harsh Z. A goalie's instict in my opinion in this setting is to shade toward his near post. There can't be an ounce of blame on the GK on a rocket into the far post side-netting from that distance.I think that shot is savable, but not if the goalie isn't right on his toes anticipating a shot.
It may very well be the best shot I've ever seen, but I think Maradona's second goal against England in the '86 World Cup is the best goal I've ever seen. And Ronaldo's goal for Barcelona against Compostela is right up there too.Desert_Power said:That goal was incredible. Probably the best I have ever seen.
Absolutely. In recent memory, that goal Argentina scored in the last WC, first round, where the ball went through pretty much the entire team before scoring. And no way the gk saves that- no fault of his at all there; the ball is screaming in and curving away from him. He looked to be positioned perfectly- shaded a little to the near post (cardinal rule to never get beat near) and off his line to cover the angle. What did the announcer say later... a "howitzer" by Ronaldo. That's about it.It may very well be the best shot I've ever seen, but I think Maradona's second goal against England in the '86 World Cup is the best goal I've ever seen.
