I think you probably need to take 4 guys who can pay CB. Between cards and injuries, I wouldn't want to go into the tourney with only 3. Whether that's Marshall, Parkhurst, Califf, I'll leave that to Bradley since its the 22nd position on the roster at this point. That means leaving out one of the MFs (don't think we really need 5 center MFs, but what do I know) or Pearce. I'd also rather have a speedier 4th striker if we're going to play counterattacking soccer.I also think Bornstein is farther up the depth chart than Pearce at this point.
Having said all that, a year is a long way away in soccer terms, so I'm sure some of this will change.
I agree with Christo on the starting 11 though I'd rather a speedier LB, but I don't that that's in the cards over the next year. I also don't think there's a place on this team for DMB ince I think we've found that Donovan and Dempsey should be the "wings" which doesn't leave a place for him (and face it if Donovan's hurt we aren't going anywhere anyway, Dempsey is easier to replace, but he's a RMF anyway).

Word is that Brian McBride is considering coming out of retirement from the Nats. If so, I think we may have a pretty easy choice for that 4th striker.

I was thinking this same thing. I think you can get away with not having Pearce/Bornstein but I bet right now Bornstein would go since he seems to be filling the fullback and backup DMC roles at the same time. It's nice to have flexibility like that. That would mean kicking one of the MFs to the curb.

MLS guy. He's been capped a few times...10-15 maybe. A few years ago he was a fairly promising prospect, but he never really panned out.IIRC, he was in the discussion for the 2006 World Cup team, but didn't make the squad. He's been in no-man's land since then. I'd guess he doesn't really have any shot at making the 2010 Cup team...he's kinda just a fill-in for the Gold Cup.ETA - He's also one of the earlier graduates from the Bradenton Academy. Just a few weeks ago I was making fun of him, talking about how he sucked and the academy didn't prepare him well. And here we are...

Seems like a non-issue. Even the article states that as even if he gets suspended, he can technically serve that in the Gold Cup when he isn't even on the roster.

Honestly, I just don't think there's room on the squad for DMB assuming the following things: 1) Jones is the real deal and can earn a starting spot. 2) Edu is also the real deal and gets more and more PT in Scotland.
The nice thing about Edu is that he can fill in at CB if need be. Remember that's where he played in the Olympics and did pretty well. If there's a MF that I pull from my list it's Adu as he hasn't shown anything in bog-boy games yet.
Pearce I was never sold on, (hence the ? after his name). I just know that Bornstein doesn't inspire confidence in me, and neither does anyone else. Someone's gonna get that spot, and I hope that he doesn't see the field.
Finally, the 5 central MF selection was based on 2 things: 1) Bradley often likes to go to a 4-5-1 based on matchup or protecting a lead, and 2) our central MF pick up a ton of cards. I don't want to be stuck having to play LD in a holding role while Conor Casey sits on his ### on the bench.

Standard restrictions on subbing - has to be your own team's throw-in or a goal kick (or injury sub). You can sub in and out, unlimited subs per game. Roster size is limited to 18 active players....we have 20 on the roster, but it isn't an issue cause half the team never shows anyway.Just last night, a guy on their team may have broken his ankle in a collision with our GK. He had to be carried off the field...the ref called the foul on our GK and the guy missed the net wide left on the ensuing PK in the ~75th minute.While we do have injuries, the bolded are why I will stay with YMCA Co-ed ball. We've played with 0 subs in 3 of our 8 league games, and have never had more than 2 subs for any given game. In our cup game, which we lost even though we really outplayed the other team, we only had 9 guys show up and lost our captain to a broken arm....we played the last 15 minutes 8-on-11 and even managed to hit the post....but we couldn't quite tie it.
A ton of injuries in our games so far.

I get not liking when players embellish or flat-out fake it... but get real- unless he's going to take a sprinting start while wearing cleats, Christo is offering you much, much better than what you'd get on the field, and it's still going to hurt like hell.

What's the story on Eddie Johnson? The guy absolutely broke out a few years ago and looked to be a phenom, but no word from him in a long time. I watch almost all of the USMNT matches, but somehow I missed what happened or at least don't remember. I don't really like any of the strikers for the US right now after watching the Confed Cup (Dempsey was the best striker and he only played that position for like 10 minutes at the end of two games and he's not even a striker). I like Ching coming back, but was curious about Johnson's status.

Eddie Johnson made a living on his physical gifts alone.
When it came time to progress (and play overseas), it became obvious that he was completely clueless in terms of game intelligence, IMO. Doesn't know what to do without the ball, he just doesn't seem to "get it".

Different. We play 6 v 6 and we must have two women on the field. (or no more than four men is another way to look at it)If you have eight guys show and no women then you are playing with four on the field.No slide tackles, a three line rule for kicks and no offside. Also, female goals count two. Subbing is at will, but since we usually do entire line changes (keeper excluded) we stick to our throws or goal kicks so we don't get caught with players running on and off. If someone gets too tired though they just run off and their sub runs on.I've suggested that we turn the bench on its side and make the subs go over it since it looks like hockey when we sub.
Most likely not an issue just one of those news blips out there.
If he did it FIFA shouldn't even have to do anything. His father should suspend him.

Santino was one of the golden children of the US youth national teams. He starred on the U17's along with Eddie Johnson.At just over 16, he became the youngest player ever to be drafted by an MLS side (DC United). Had a solid rookie season scoring 5 goals.Then injuries and off the field issues (became a very young dad and had a drug addiction), hampered any progress and almost killed his once promising career.Shear talent kept him hanging around MLS, where in the last season or so, he has finally matured and has started to play pretty well. He is only 24 but he will never get back those 6-7 years he basically flushed down the drain.He is a 6'1" outside midfielder sometimes striker. Has represented the US at the senior level 11 times.

I am not a big Connor Casey guy. He runs like he is 65 years old. There are other pure strikers I would much rather see in there instead of him (outside of Jozy and Davies)
McBride (rumor has been floating that he is willing to pull on the shirt again. Would make a nice second half sub with his experience)
Ching (he is what he is, but its still much better than Casey)
Cooper (big, mobile and with a pair of feet that would instantly make Jozy a top level striker. There is obviously something in his game that is bad that as a fan I can't detect because I can not explain how he is constantly over looked).

This makes it the highest drawing non WC game ever for ESPN. Considering they got these rights thrown in as part of the World Cup deal, did not send any announcers or cameras to South Africa, ESPN hopefully turned an unexpected profit with these games.

I used to wear strapless ones, but they would slide around and end up sideways on my legs. I switched to the strap with no ankle support and wore those in high school.I've since switched back to the old standard....stirrup ankle protection + strap shinguards. I used to always think the ankle protection was too bulky...until I broke my ankle sophomore year.
I don't even feel them.

D - Onyewu, Bocanegra, DeMerit, Spector, Cherundolo, Hejduk, Castillo, Parkhurst
M - Donovan, Dempsey, Bradley, Feilhaber, Jones, Edu, Torres
F - Jozy, Davies, Ching, McBride (!)
My dilema's are a lack of a defined 4th DC, which I guess would be Parkhurst and finding a pacey stike option after Davies. What little I have seen of Califf has completely turned me off to him. But Edu does offer some versatilty in being able to sub into the back line if needed. If Castillo is what he is billed to be he could fill in either at LB or ML, which would be huge. Ching and McBride are kind of the same, but Dempsey also has the versatility to play up top.

While Boca looked better than DMB and Borenstein at LB, he still stuggled with the pace of Ramos and Maicon. Hejduk had been playing really well in the Qualifiers and lack of speed has never been his problem. I think this might inject a lot of speed and bite to possible counter-attacks if that is the way Bradley is going to be playing things. Hopefully Jones would be able to live up to the billing and he could help to cover Castillo and Hejduk. Also I think with Bradley in he can cover the right a lot better when Landon pushes forward.

The ones we bought have their own sleeve. So you have the guard, then a sleeve that goes over that, then your sock. I think the sleeve makes a huge difference in keeping it in place but we haven't had them very long so we'll see.

I was also 12 years old at the time, so that could make a difference
According to wikipedia he had 20 appearances for Reading in the EPL in 07-08 then he injured his knee. Maybe he hasn't fully recovered.Whoops. Misread that. He had 45 appearances for Reading in 05-06, was in injured in 06-07 then returned for 20 appearances in 07-08.
