yeah, got a little ahead of myself there....Giggs out for a month now too. Favorable schedule for United though, with only a match left vs Liverpool and Chelsea and both at home, from the big four.Road games remaining for United - @Everton, @Wolves, @Bolton, @Blackburn, @Man City & @Sunderland.Chelsea still needs to travel to United, Liverpool and SpursCL matches starting up soon too, going to be a fun spring.

The rumor machine for Red Bull is out of control and lord knows if any of it is even true.Henry, Raul and Maldini have all been floated but the Maldini rumor was shot down by both sides I believe.

Not a lot of teams can afford to buy right now. We can assume that MLS will demand over $10 million for Landon. That's about 6 million pounds or so, which seems pretty low, but those deals aren't happening right now. The teams that could afford him probably couldn't offer him an assured place. Teams like Everton, Fulham, and Birmingham -- topish half of the table teams where I think he'd fit in, aren't necessarily buying this year.

I honestly don't get/like the Raul rumor. As the consumate poacher, he's not a player to help build a team around, IMO. With a highly capable Angel already up front, my MetReds need somebody to help anchor the MF or back 4.

Birmingham was allegedly trying to throw some money around the January transfer window for the likes of Ryan Babel. The price mentioned was something around 9 million pounds. I think if they wanted Donovan they could meet the price.

But they ended up bringing in some guys from Celtic, I thought. In any case, they are a good fit, IMO. Alot of the other top half teams, like Villa, Spurs, and Man City don't really have a spot for Landon.There's some talk that Steven Pinnear wants to try the Spanish league after the World Cup. I could see Everton getting back in the game for Landon in July, but I do think it's unlikely that anything is resolved in March. It would be nice to see a bit of Landon on the left for Everton, considering that Leighton Baines is a much, much better fullback than the reanimated Zombie corpse of Gary Neville. I suppose Bilyadetinov (or however the hell you spell his name) would still be preferred on the left.
Everton could most probably afford Donovan. Fact is, they have a lot of players out, and as these guys get healthier, Donovan would get phased out of play.
If he were 22-23, I think they may have more strongly considered it, but a loan was about all Everton needed. They have to watch their finances a lot closer than the bigger money teams, and usually aim for younger players that they can develop and, well, sell off at a profit.

I know you guys care a whole lot, but my Atleti are in the finals of the Copa del Rey for the 18th time (they haven't been in 10 years). They'll be going for their 10th Cup against Sevilla on May 26th. This game against Racing was one they almost gave away... as an article I read said it best, "no one complicates life like Atlético." They are such drama queens...
Anyway, it should be a really good match and both teams are trying to get guarantees from FIFA that their international players will be there for the game and not playing for their national sides in tune-ups for the WC. The game location is not yet determined, but if it's in Madrid, my prediction is that the rojiblanco faithful will be going to Neptune that night.

With LD playing on the the right for Everton, it might be wise to keep him out there to attack England's weakened left flank. Just kinda thinking out loud. I dont know much about Bridge. Is he strong enough to hold up that side or is it now a weakness for the Brits?

I think there is some amount of misunderstanding fostered by poor reporting like that shown in this article, which opens with the false statement, "Togo will appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) after they were banned from the next two African Nations Cups having pulled out of the tournament in Angola."The basis for the ban is not because Togo pulled out of the tournament, but because the decision to withdraw was made by the Togolese government, not by its football association. The team players reportedly wanted to continue with the tournament, but were overruled by the national government. FIFA, UEFA, CAF and I think most if not all football associations have strict rules regarding government interference in the association's affairs. Therefore, while the ban is shocking and seems grossly insensitive on one level, it is grounded in a principle that is a good one in my opinion. I am not familiar with African football history, but read in one opinion piece that there is a history there of inappropriate government meddling in the affairs of the sport, so perhaps this is a good sign that the CAF is taking a hard-line position in this instance in the face of substantial public outcry against them.

is a healthy DMB really better than a healthy Holden? I'm not sure at this point. In fact, I kinda doubt it.Really wish that Jermaine Jones was going to be healthy. It just wasnt in the cards. I have very little faith in Ricardo Clarke or Feilhaber. Bradley will obviously be out there, but he has a tendency to disapear as well.

Interesting stuff. I didn't read anything about the team wanting to continue playing. I had read that ultimately the President called the team back. I still figured in this case that was completely justifiable. I can see where they would want to avoid government involvement on principle, but I personally feel that in this horrific case that there isn't any need to punish the team.

MLS had two option years on the contract. So he couldn't have gone at the end of the season anyway. If he didn't sign an extension, they wouldn't have let him go on loan this winter. He wanted to A)prove himself and B) stay sharp and in form leading up to the World Cup.It's not like he had much leverage. This way he got a raise and got to go on loan. MLS will have to decide how they want to value him in the summer. I'm on record in saying that MLS should worry about growing soccer in America first and growing MLS second. So I wouldn't hold out for too much money. But that's easy for me to say as a soccer fan who doesn't enjoy watching a lot of MLS.

Bridge has generally been selected by Capello though. England might be weaker on the right anyway. Cole will be back (if unfit) before the World Cup presumably. Glen Johnson is also hurt and I'm not sure who the second choice on the right would be. Even healthy, Johnson is an excellent attacking fullback and an invitation for disaster at the back.
