I am worried about Gooch getting into game shape. I can't see him getting any time at AC Milan. Does anyone think there is a chance that a loan deal could be worked out with an MLS side which might be perfect timing for him?

I'll be the first to say I don't watch this that closely but isn't MLS going to have a work stoppage? It may mean LD stays in Liverpool a bit longer. Moyes obviously wants to keep him and Donovan seems to want to stay. If there are no games here, what's to stop this from happening?

That probably should've been a penalty, but good decision by the ref to not take over the game by not making that call.
:confused:I assume you are talking about the play where Adebayor got run over in the box? That was a terribly played game...on both sides, and probably an even worse officiated game. That dude was just guessing out there....fouls, corners, throw ins...he couldnt get anything right, for either side.

It was a poorly played game, but I didn't have much of an issue with the officiating. It was clear that he didn't want to make the game about him and didn't want any controversy...just a hard-played game. If I was rooting heavily for one team over the other, I'd probably complain like you are, but it looked to me like he wanted to keep controversy out of it and just let them play.....something that as a player, I can appreciate...

I'd be all for this but can it happen outside of the transfer window? Not sure if loan deals are treated differently.

Ya, obviously I am biased. But Adebayor clearly had a handball on the best scoring chance of the match....nothing called. And i can specifically think of 2 corner kicks that were awarded that were clearly goal kicks.

Massive disappointment this weekend for United @ Everton. Everton played a very good match, and United was not near as good as they have been of late. Valencia, whom many were calling as United's best player earlier in the year, is really lacking confidence, and I say that as a euphemism instead of flat out calling him awful. Nani is much the superior option on the wing - I was honestly expecting a much better performance by Valencia in his absence, but nothing. Johnny Evans has looked really bad two games in a row  Hopefully Vidic will be back to fitness soon, and shore up that central defense.

Nice wins by Arsenal and Chelsea these weekend too, and Liverpool and City playing to a tie was about the best that could be hoped for there.

Lots of news coming out about Ashely Cole of late, kind of making John Terry look tame in comparison.

Hearing chirps about Real perhaps chasing Wenger? That would be interesting.

CL play this week, and the big one of course is Chelsa/Inter. Unlike last week's ManU/AC Milan match where there was mutual admiration between the players & coaches, it looks like this one may have some blood to it. Mourinho has never been one to hold his tongue, and well, this week is no different.

Speaking of Inter, did anyone catch their game this weekend vs Sampdoria? They down 9v11 by the 38th minute and held to a scoreless draw. In fact, they had the better of the opportunities in the game, with Eto'o blowing at least one golden opportunity....although to be fair, I can't be too harsh on someone that's been playing on a side down 2 men for the greater part of the game. Sampdoria was flat out pathetic, they could muster nothing on offense, and Inter was down their two central defenders (and Materrazo was out of the lineup too). Roma has snuck up to within 5 of Inter...and Juventus is playing a bit better of late, now up to 4th in Serie A.

that's all I've got for now.

United's entire defense was suspect all game line. Donovan and Pinear continually abused Neville on the right and the CBs had trouble closing anything down.

it is unknown at this time. The sides are still talking. I believe one of the deadlines is this week (the 27th?) so we may know more then.

Great watching Donovan this weekend. The Everton Untied match was a great one for TV.

Christo > regarding Gerrard, I'm amazed that he hasn't broken someone on his own team legs yet. Really, I am. I think he wants blood.

Abusing Neville is not really new, but so long as he is able to keep them wide and out of the danger area, I think it is just fine. Having an attacker dribble down on Evans, and brush by him without much trouble at all to get a free shot on goal is much more of an issue.

Evans was atrocious. In fact, I'm not sure a player has hurt his reputation more this year than Jonny Evans. I think most people thought he was a more than adequate 3rd CB coming into the year. Wes Brown was merely invisible.

I wasn't surprised that Distin was clearly the best CB on the pitch, as he's an underrated player. I was surprised that Johnny Heitenga was a clear #2.

Christo > regarding Gerrard, I'm amazed that he hasn't broken someone on his own team legs yet. Really, I am. I think he wants blood.
There were rumors in the past that he might want to leave Anfield. I dismissed them out of hand as the musings of Liverpool haters. But if they don't get it turned around fast, I could see him forcing his way out.

Aside from Chelsea courting him a few years back I haven't heard anything about him leaving. He signed his extension at roughly the same time they brought in Torres. I don't blame him for being frustrated with how this season has played out. It seems like every media headline has just been one big headache. At least the Premiership as a whole is looking a little less top heavy than years past. All of the Big Four have flaws, so there isn't any reason to think that Liverpool cannot turn things around next season. I'm tired of seeing both Lucas and Mascherano on the field together. Lucas is a decent young player and I think he could develop into a solid defensive midfielder, the problem is Mascherano is already filling that role very well. When they're both out there they run around like crazy attacking the ball and things get a little screwy. Neither is really an incisive distributor of the ball and just try to move it along rather than hold it up and develop something.

While the Premiership is less top heavy this year, La Liga is just the same with Barça and Real being the only names in town. They are 15 and 13 points, respectively, clear of the 3rd place team, Valencia. April 11 is the next Clásico in Camp Nou, and that could be the decisive game this season. Those two teams will be in a fight to the death for the La Liga title this year and with the problems that the Preimership top teams are having, I could actually see them in CL Finals this year if the draw happens to put them on opposite sides. Barça needs to get healthy on defense and find the cohesion that they showed last year and Real needs to

CRonaldo was outstanding yesterday and scored a monster of a free kick against a clearly outmatched Villarreal. When that team is on they deadly.

I watched the Inter game- deserved sending's off, IMO and deserved point too. Totally agree with you about Sampdoria, who played worse once they went up players. They looked absolutely aimless with the ball, while Inter- when the chances arose (and yeah, Eto'o should've done better there)- attacked with venom. Also caught most of the Milan v Bari game and made a point to watch Ronaldinho after our discussion in here about him. Not a great game for him, but worse- and I've been noticing this in prior games even when he played well- every time he's tackled he stops playing and complains to the ref. Every single time. And regardless of the what the other team is doing with the ball- ie: counterattacking the space Ronnie's just left gapingly open. I'm sure there's more than that playing into Dungha's decisions, but it starts to paint a picture for me...

Oh!

I bought my tickets for the StarBull v Santos of Brazil game on March 20... it's the stadium opener, so I'm psyched to see that place. Also hoping Robinho makes the trip with his old/new club.

unsubstantiated internet rumor I've read has ManCity is ready to bid 140M pounds for Torres & Gerrard :goodposting:

I think it's safe to say that 'dinho is in Dungha's doghouse and is unlikely to be a WC starter (although I think he'll be brought into the squad at the last minute).

Oh God, I don't think I could stand it if Torres bent to Man City. That's disgusting.

I thought RM was pursuing Gerard last summer... no?

I would cry. Probably a lot.

I think it was floated out there by Real speculators. I don't know if Real Madrid actually asked or not.

Got my tix for US-Turkey in Philly on May 29. 8th row sideline, right one the edge of the penalty area. First live Nats match - can't wait!
Is this the "get-away" game or do we have one more lined up after this? I had heard that they were looking at Conn. for the Get Away game vs Chech Republic
The Turkey match is the 2nd of the two US pre-WC matches - Czech match is a few days earlier (May 25). Venue not yet named but Hartford (UConn's football stadium?) is the rumored location. There's also a Czech vs Turkey friendly at Red Bull Arena on May 22.

Just picked up 2 myself for the Philly game :kicksrock:

CL matches today, anyone awake?!?!?

I can't find a good feed for the Barca/Stuttgart game which I kinda wanted to watch, so I'm on the ManU/West Ham game. Anderson starting today, :blackdot: and Vidic!

I started watching the Olympiakos/Bordeaux match, which has been a yawner. Almost every time I flip over, Stuttgart is on the attack. They've had some very good chances to get a second goal.

And as I type this, Messi almost scores. I think I'm sticking with this game for now. Much better pace.

Barca is just watching Stuttgart. really frustrating.

Goalie got a hand on a Messi shot that trickled past him and just hit the post instead of going in. Only real chance of the half.

Sorry, no link. I'm in Bolivia. Luckily it is the only game on.

ETA: Looks like Man U game is on here too....

Got to watch most of the Barca-Stuttgart match.

- Stuttgart has fantastic workrate and organization through the midfield. I was quite impressed. Early on it really frustrated Barca but they appeared to be running on empty by the end of the game. That's a lot of chasing to do.

- Starting both Toure and Busquets in the midfield was a mistake as neither is in the same league as Iniesta at finding space and showing

- Puyol is a pretty bad offensive fullback and moving him here forces Marquez in the middle. Barca needs another fullback

- Henry is officially done. Pedro should be the full time starter on the left

- Jens Lehmann, for an old ####er, really made a horrendous decision that could have resulted in a red had Puyol not pulled up. What on earth was he doing going into a tackle with his boot 4 feet in the air?

- I would have given the Stuttgart defender a straight red at the end when Messi was breaking away. It wasn't a dangerous challenge (he just grabbed Messi on the shoulder from behind and pulled him down) and it was at midfield but Messi was going with pace and while somebody on the other side was the last man, there is no way anyone touches him from that point. Anyway, it would be hard to argue. He made no attempt on the ball and just made sure to take Messi down. Very much a professional foul.

I don't know but they really need to roll out the HD Fox Soccer Channel ASAP. Especially now that we're getting the hi-def Prem matches on ESPN2 Saturday mornings. I want the big UCL matches in hi-def too. I hope Comcast Xfinity has it on their short list of HD channel additions.
