Chelsea looked great today in Slovakia without Drogba, Lampard or Cole. Essien once again was the catalyst in midfield at both ends - scoring the first goal and saving one at the other end. Benayoun was the motor behind at least two of the four goals and did a wonderful job distributing the ball.

I was also very happy to see our young players gain real game experience in the CL. Daniel Sturridge got the start with Drogba out and scored yet again (5 career goals in 7 career starts at Chelsea per the telecast). Kakuta (18), McEachran (17) and van Aanholt (20) all saw time on the pitch.

Us EPL fanboys get to see what all the fuss is all about this weekend when ESPNH2 televises FCB at Atletico de Madrid (live and in HD!) Sunday at noon central. Assuming they don't start posting live soccer scores on the Jumbotron at Lambeau, I'll have something to enjoy when I get home from the helmet-football game Sunday evening.

Atleti just lost in Europa...btw- got to see Barcelona play some vs Palanikos... fan of the club or not- it is art what they do with the ball. I am constantly stunned by how well they play.

Will I be getting a Gator/Furley phone call?

BTW, looks like I'll *probably* be at Mad Dog in the Fog in SF for the Atlético - Barça match on Sunday morning in case there are any Bay Area FBGs that want to see the Z in his Diego Forlán jersey.

I'm in the neighborhood. If *probably* becomes *definitely* on Sunday, post it here and I *might* drop in

Seriously thinking about shunning the NFL in favor of Atletico-Barca Sunday. Lions fan bitterness is running high and that's a heck of a matchup.

More excited about watching the Dolphins beat up on the Vikings(Mjolnirs--> :clyde: ), but I'll be taping the first hour of that while I watch the match. I expect a lot of goals to be scored, particularly if Barca starts the poor defenders from last weekend.

do you think this could be the best player in american soccer? just had a look at him and some of his goals dam, he could make it big in europe here-

Did you mean to post a link to some hip-hop song or is this some kind of fishing?

Dream on Dolphin boy. Besides, looking at this map you won't be recording anything.

I watched Atleti on the weekend, and they were very very impressive against Athletic Bilbao (which is a tough place to go). The Barcelona game should be a good one.

Pretty ugly game today. Sunderland really deserved to win it....Fabregas got lucky with the fluke goal. It was only fitting that they'd scuff the clearance and give up a last-second goal. Meh

Rosicky's skied penalty compensated for the fluke goal. The sending off was unwarranted and changed the game. In spite of being a man down and losing Fabregas, Arsenal kept possession through much of the second half. All in all, a draw was a fair result. Saying Sunderland deserved the win is a stretch IMO.

Tend to disagree with this. Certainly it was marginal but Song clearly moved into his path and it sure looked to be intentional to break up the counter. He was carrying a yellow already. It's just not a smart play and he put himself and Arsenal in that spot. On some days, he may well have gotten by with it, but any time you make an intentional foul while carrying a yellow, getting sent off isn't really unwarranted.

I was a little on-tilt at the time of that post.

My brother canceled on me, so I won't be going into the city to watch the game.

However, I am up for anything in the East Bay if anyone's interested in meeting up. I'll throw out The Englander in San Leandro.

If anyone replies to me in this thread that they want to meet, I'm game. I'll buy the first round.

If no responses by 9:30 AM, then I'll be watching at home.

Now I'm off to make love to my wife. Ciao.

Let me know if you ever make it over to the Mad Dog.

LOOK AT ME..I HAVE A WIFE THAT ALLOWS ME TO MAKE LOVE TO HER

Incidentally, looking forward to Chelsea/Blackpool tomorrow

Chelsea had an easy first 5 matches, culminating with Blackpool

Anytting less than 15 pts would be disappointing

Blackpool is the last of those opponents

I'm not expecting a win today, but a full strength Blackpool team is very exciting to watch and has proven they can play with anyone so far.

Roger.I'm sure it'll happen again this season at some point. My brother lives walking distance from Mad Dog, and he's a big Arsenal fan. We usually take in a few Arsenal games as well as el Clásico there.
