I've been saying it for weeks....I want to like him, I really do....and I want to give him a chance in the Arsenal uniform. But he's not that good; he just isn't. Maybe he'll get better with time, but it's not like he's a young player - he doesn't have much room to develop.Arsenal need Bendtner to be fit for a full 90 minutes. Hopefully when he's back for good, not just a 20-minute sub appearance, he bumps Chamakh out of the lineup. He has the same playing style as Chamakh, and he's simply better in all facets of the game....strength/aggressiveness, finishing, ball control. I've seen ~80% of Arsenal games so far this year, and Chamakh has yet to impress me. His finish was pretty nice today, but if Carr had just cleared the ball, Chamakh doesn't even sniff the net. He can't create for himself, something that Bendtner and van Persie (the constant target of my #####ing) can do.

To his credit, Wenger didn't disagree
"He [Wilshere] mistimed his tackle, and he got the red card it deserved," Wenger told reporters. "It was his first tackle in the game, but now you have the knowledge that he got the red card and deserved it.

"But he did not go around the whole game to kick people - he played football. He was one of the best players on the pitch, but he mistimed that tackle."

The Frenchman has been one of the most outspoken managers when it comes to the recent debate over tough tackling, and did admit that he has already spoken to Wilshere about the challenge but reiterated that his team are more often the victims rather than perpetrators of aggressive play.

"Yes, I did speak with him about it [after the game]," Wenger admitted.

"He said he mistimed the challenge, he touched him on the ankle and he deserved a red card."

He added: "Of course [i will speak to the team about tackling]. We are the team with the most committed fouls against, though. I encourage our players to play football. We got a red card, we deserved it, what can we do about it now? He will be suspended for three games, and so he will be punished."

My Atleti won 2-0 at home against a resilient Getafe. They tried to give the game away by allowing Getafe to take about a billion shots on goal, but most of them sucked anyway.

Valera was even more of a liability at the back than Perea, and that's saying something. It was a pretty poor game all around with no Kun and Forlán only coming on in the 66th minute. Glad they got the 3 points though, as those home wins are necessary if they want a CL berth.

 
AFC Wimbledon went back on top of the Conference today with a 1-0 home win vs. Gateshead coupled with a Crawley Town defeat at the hands of Newport County.

Happy to see this. I like to watch Wenger's team as I dig the style he teaches. But I normally can't stand to watch the man interviewed because of his incessant whining (along with his outrageous french accent). It's good to see he's at least consistent about it.

weren't they alone in 2nd heading into round 8? Think I know what you mean though with United settling for yet another draw. They also have a chance to pick up some points here on Chelsea too. A win tomorrow and they are only 2 points back :unsure:

grrrr....just noticed Merseyside is on Plus tomorrow. I have no idea how the tv contract works but there sure are a lot of good games that end up on Plus. Too many imo

 
Despite Everton's crap start to the season, there is definitely some solace taken in the fact that Liverpool is not only lower in the table but in the relegation zone.

I really like that. It makes me smile. And giggle a little bit every time I see it.

I really don't understand how Liverpool is this bad right now. On paper, they're at least a top 7 team in the league, and in reality, probably 5th in terms of sheer talent...

They have no chemistry and no heart. They are mailing this season in.They may make some waves in Europa League, but I expect a 9-12th place finish for them. Not relegation bound, but certainly not anywhere close to top tier.I've seen it before with Atlético. Oh and they may have a new manager before season's end.

I haven't watched a lot of their games but the ones I have Ive been completely unimpressed with their midfield. They don't win the ball. They don't hold the ball. They look disinterested. It's great that on the ball Stevie G, Cole and Torres can do wonderful things. But someone needs to do the dirty work. They desperately miss Mascherano.

You really think so? Gerrard, Torres and Reina are their only top-level players and the first two of those have been way, way below par so far this season. They should still finish in the top 10 come the end of the season, but to say they are the 5th most talented team in the league is generous.

United, Chelsea, Arsenal, City, Spurs....other than those 5, who else really compares in terms of sheer talent? I don't think Villa is quite at that level.
 
Lots of fun games this week in Euro action. Direct TV is again showing a ton of games for free.

Hopefully Edu and Jozy will get to play making their games more interesting to me.

I feel kind of bad for Hodgson. After 30 years of coaching all over the world, he finally gets his shot to manage a big English club and the wheels fall off. This definitely wasn't what he signed on for. Woy's totally not without blame of course but deserves less than some others involved. His head will likely the one of the first to roll.

okay, I think it's probably time ole SAF stepped the #### down.

He's always welcome back to Atlético. I'm sure they could scrounge up 20m€ for him, although they might have to sell Forlán to do it. I would say that Forlán is the better player right now, but he's getting a little long in the tooth, and el niño still has a lot to give.

LONDON (Reuters) - FIFA president Sepp Blatter appealed to his executive committee members to stay silent as he launched an immediate investigation into alleged vote-selling ahead of the decision on the 2018 and 2022 World Cup hosts. Blatter took the unusual step of issuing an open letter to members of the executive committee Sunday, telling them a report in Britain's Sunday Times newspaper had created a "very negative impact" on soccer's governing body. The report said Nigeria's Amos Adamu had been filmed asking for money for a personal project and that Oceania Football Confederation president Reynald Temarii from Tahiti wanted money for a sports academy. FIFA is due to announce on December 2 in Zurich which countries will host the two World Cups with the 24-strong executive committee deciding both venues on a majority vote. "I am sorry to have to inform you of a very unpleasant situation which has developed in relation to an article published today in the Sunday Times, entitled 'World Cup votes for sale'," Blatter wrote at www.fifa.com. "The information in the article has created a very negative impact on FIFA and on the bidding process for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups." He added: "I will keep you duly informed of any further developments. In the meantime, I would like to ask you to refrain from making any public comments on this matter." That request came after Chuck Blazer, the United States representative on the executive committee, told Reuters that the decision on hosts for the next two World Cups was unlikely to be delayed. "The Ethics Committee will address these issues directly and it should not take them very long to ascertain all the facts," Blazer, speaking in a telephone interview from New York, told Reuters. "The date of December 2 was chosen specifically ahead of the 'political season' of congresses and elections, and I see no reason why this would be delayed." The investigation comes after the Sunday Times said its reporters, working undercover, posed as lobbyists for a consortium of American private companies. VOTING PROCEDURE Blazer told Reuters: "I cannot comment on these cases individually of course, but what I will say is up to now I have met with five different bidding committees and in some cases visited their countries -- England, Russia, Belgium/Holland, Japan and the United States. "All the bidders I have met have been totally professional in their presentations, not alluding to any other types of benefits and I think that needs to be said. "They were simply trying to offer the best World Cup proposals. "I don't think people should get the wrong impression of the FIFA process either. On the contrary, it was not as if journalists have been monitoring a bid that seemed dubious in any way, but they have created a scam, a trap. "However, it is up to FIFA individuals to be vigilant at all times. "I do not think there is anything wrong with the voting procedure. We have come to expect it to be carried out morally and ethically based on good judgment and on what has been presented by a bidding committee. "By having a small body decide where the World Cup will be held, you also can identify the people responsible for choosing the World Cup venue -- the executive committee -- because they are the same people responsible for making it work." The decision will be made by the 24-man executive committee, although a source close to the executive, who asked not to be named, said both Adamu and Temarii could find themselves suspended or off the committee by then if the claims against them were substantiated. "FIFA will not allow anyone or anything to damage the reputation of the voting procedure and it could be that 22 men might make the decision, not 24," the source said. England and Russia are bidding for the 2018 finals along with joint bids from Spain/Portugal and Belgium/Netherlands. The candidates for 2022 are the United States, Japan, South Korea, Qatar and Australia.
