Ruiz just scored arguably what is going to be the goal of the year in MLS for Phili. Holy hell what a volley from distance. And ironically it came directly from Ruiz hitting a very poor free kick. When they have the highlight online I will link to it. Brilliant, right in front of the Sons of Ben.

Am I the only one having issued getting games to record? They have titles on the Dish guide as MLS, SOCCER and MLS: team1 v. team 2. It seams the third option I listed is mostly new games where as the first two can be reruns. Putting the teams into the title ####s up "recording all" because the next game they air isn't the same two ####### teams. Swear to Heysus that I have no fewer than 6 timers set up to try and record MLS and nothing.ever.records.I need a beer
I have the same problem in Direct tv. I finally gave up trying to set a season pass and simply looked for the few games per week on tv and just pick them out and record them.

A true golazo! And Michael Farfan's goal was well taken as well. The Union scored 2 - maybe today IS the end of the world :)

I like Agudelo's better.

I like Agudelo's a lot for all the subtle things he did to score it, but liked Ruiz's better. That was a LONG way out to try that kind of shot- and the GK wasn't that far off his line... astonishing goal.

I loved Juan's as well but for me timing is important. This was a game winner, Juan's was icing on the cake. Also, and I know this has nothing to do with quality, but the fact that he hit it with his off foot (one that even his home announcer says is never used) was pretty cool.

I wonder if this is one of the longest starts to a season ever for a team to wait until it scored more than 1 goal?

I don't know, but if you had told me that 10 games in the Union would top the East with only 8 goals scored, I'd say you were nuts.Very good atmosphere at PPL last night too. And Andy, I don't know of you saw league wide attendence last night yet, but it was fantastic. 22k average, helped by a Chivas 27k sellout for the Super Clasico, and 25k in Houston vs NY, I'm sure Marquez was a factor. Plus the normal high crowds in Seattle, Portland and Philly.

Yeah I did see the attendance (I am an attendance freak. I was the guy running the MLS attendance thread on Big Soccer for over a decade)Great night last night and great crowds all over with the small exception of SJ down 500 from their small capacity. I saw a piece of every game on Matchday Live or on TV and the crowds were very lively too. the HDC was the quietest and even then it was still pretty good.

I was hoping ESPN2 would show Blackburn-Wolves instead of ManU-Blackpool but it looks like Bristol got the better match (first half at least).

anyone else's Man U- Blackpool feed keep cutting in and out?

My other channels seem to be Ok, but ESPN2 is being a ####

Have we talked about how Fulham blew it on the only thing they really needed to do in this game - avoid a red card. Two relegated squads to Europa League?

Didn't get to see the match, but on the highlights it looked like that own goal broke Blackpool's spirit. Kinda bummed. :(

Ancelotti gone from Chelsea
If Torres isn't forced into Ancelotti's squad and he avoids trying to put a square peg into a round hole I bet Chelsea wins the league. They had a terrible run of games where Drogba was on fire, but had to come in off the bench because Torres needed playing time.

Let's not talk about that.
Is it official?Zoltan
That tackle was SO bad/stupid/obvious, I immediately got thinking it was either: Fulham intentionally trying to avoid Europe (didn't Hughes talk about the pressures of Europe on a limited budget squad like Fulham? Or was that another coach?) or Gera intentionally trying to #### Fulham on his way out the door.eta: article from BBC...
Fulham are likely to have to wait until Thursday to find out if they have qualified for the Europa League through the fair play table. The top-ranked team that has not already qualified for Europe gains entry to the competition.Fulham were leaders when the fair play table was last published on 30 April, but Zoltan Gera was sent off in their final game, the 2-2 draw with Arsenal.Blackpool were the next highest eligible team, followed by West Ham."Match delegates" compile fair play reports for each Premier League game. There has been speculation that Blackpool will qualify for the Europa League following Gera's sending off for Fulham. However, the match delegates award points depending on a range of factors, not only the number of yellow and red cards a side receives. They also consider "positive play", respect towards opponents and the behaviour of a club's officials. The reports from Sunday's final round of Premier League matches have been filed with the Premier League, but must now be independently audited.Fulham boss Mark Hughes is confident Fulham will qualify for Europe through the Fair Play league, despite Gera's sending off."I don't think it will have any bearing on our standing," he said. "We are still hopeful of being in Europe."Substitute Gera had been on the pitch for only four minutes when he was shown a straight red card for a two-footed lunge on Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen.Hughes said he had no complaints about the decision. "The challenge was a genuine attempt to get the ball but when two feet are off the floor there is the potential to be sent off, as he was," he said."We were desperately disappointed for Zoltan. But we are judged over 38 games for our fair play, so I don't think it will affect our average too much."

Speaking of Fulham, Ives was at the game yesterday.

He said the team came out at the end and did a lap around the field to thank the fans.

He also said Dempsey took by far the longest and even had his daughter with him who scored on one of the goals and the crowd loved it.

Ives also said the way Dempsey handled it, it did not seem to be a thank you, but more of a good bye, which I did not understand as Dempsey still has a couple of years left on his contract right?

Or it could be that Dempsey, given his season and record-breaking, might thing he deserves a little... you know... something for the effort?

not sure how this works in Europe. Ives did mention that he thinks it is more likely that Dempsey will get a new contract from Fulham than be transferred. But why would Fulham have to do either outside of rewarding him?As we saw earlier in the thread, Dempsey makes $3M per season. I have no idea if that is underpaid for Fulham's payroll in general.

fwiw- I meant that Dempsey may have helped himself to a super-style victory lap given the season he's had.

Tidbits from MLSsoccer.com:

* Great bit of humility from Ruiz's awesome goal this weekend

"I have over 100 goals in my career [164 in his professional career to be exact] and I don't know how many I've scored with my left foot, but it hasn't been that many," Ruiz said. "To be honest, I never know when I shoot with my left what's going to happen and where the ball is going. But that was the only option I had to shoot on goal from that distance. It was a goal, I needed it, the team needed it so I am just thankful it found the net."

* Dallas had yet another delay in their game yesterday with RSL due to lightning. This one lasted 2 hours. I did not see the game but I wonder if there were even a 100 fans left to watch the end of the game when it was over...

* Ajax beat DC United 2-1 yesterday in the first of many friendlies this summer. DC rested many of it regulars and Davies spent the game in the stands with the Barra Brava

* Portland is now a flat perfect 15 points from 5 games at home. Nice to see a very average team be spurred on to better things by that crowd. Only team in MLS to be perfect at home

* As a fan I am basically some where between bummed and disgusted that Becks again raised both middle fingers to the fan base and to the league by leaving yet again, this time to play in a testimonial. I am also sick of LA rarely putting their foot down to stop this. Makes me wonder if this crap is in his contract.

There have been reports about teams interested in Dempsey for some time now. Napoli, Paris Saint-Germaine, AC Milan, and I think Liverpool, probably some more as well. I think he's as good as gone.

yeah that is what Ives was driving at. he felt there were going to be some good offers for Dempsey and that he was saying good-bye to the fan base even though nothing is official yet.

US Soccer was suppose to release roster for Spain and Gold Cup at 10:00am Eastern.

It has been delayed due to a very late change. Goff states change is not because of injury ...(interesting....)

I hope not. And certainly not to any of those teams. I'll be pissed if he leaves the EPL and bentley sure as hell doesn't deserve him!

Bradley conference call moved until 3:00pm. What are they doing?
Najar got snubbed by Honduras, so teh Twitter is saying there is some "activity" to get him a passport quick.
Twas a joke by Goff that people ran with :)If it is not injury related, my guess is someone turned down the call up. Speculation is that it might be Buddle who has talked about wanting to rest and concentrate on his club career.

Meh, the guy is a global icon and arguably the face of his country...he's got #### to do on the weekends.

I don't blame Buddle after the #### Bradley pulled in the WC...Buddle should have got twice the PT he received.
