Van Persie seems more intent on flopping than actually trying to be productive. That was about as obvious as it gets.

I like to think that I'm not a blind homer, but how was that not a straight red to Balotelli? Not even a yellow? That is a brutal, brutal non-call.I can agree that Song could've been booked for that challenge on Toure, I agree, but I'm just baffled that Balotelli wasn't booked AT ALL.
I don't think Atkinson saw it. He might get one after the game upon FA review.

I don't like to see that. This is setting up for a classic Arsenal collapse....dominating possession against a better team and have nothing to show for it.

Hope the FA suspends Balotelli. Guy is a broken leg waiting to happen. But I really wish they also reviewed bs like Sagna for rolling around like a little ##### to draw cards and delaying the game for physio treatment when there was no actual contact. My count is Balotelli with 3 studs up challenges and Sagna with two pathetic "injuries"

Arsenal 2 point clear of Spurs and 5 clear of both Chelsea and Newcastle with 6 to play. Arsenal have just 1 match out of the 6 against a team in the top-half of the table....a match against Chelsea in a few weeks. The rest are, in no order, Stoke, Norwich, WBA, Wigan, and Wolves.

If Chelsea somehow win the CL, only the top 3 teams in the league will earn a place in next year's CL play.

I am going to periodically make tweaks to the final 23 guess.

This tweak adds in a forgotten Torres (thanks Tasker!) and a forgotten Wondoloski (who refuses to stop scoring).

Removed Agudelo and Bunbury from consideration for now.

Keeper:

1) Tim Howard

2) Brad Guzan

3) Nick Rimando

Right Back

4) Steve Cherundolo

5) Timmy Chandler

Right Center Back

6) Oguchi Onyewu

7) Clarence Goodson

Left Center Back

8) Carlos Bocanegra

9) Tim Ream

Left Back

10) Fabian Johnson

11) Eric Lichai

Utility defender

12) Jonathan Spector

Holding/Defensive/Central Midfielders

13) Michael Bradley

14) Jermaine Jones

15) Maurice Edu

Offensive midfielders/ wide players

16) Clint Dempsey

17) Landon Donovan

18) Brek Shea

19) Jose Torres

Forwards

20) Jozy Altidore

21) Herculez Gomez

22) Terrance Boyd

23) The most in form of Edson Buddle/Chris Wondoloski/CJ Sappong/Kenny Cooper

JK also mentioned he will have a list of stand by players but won't call them into camp.

If Chelsea win CL, does second place team in EPL go to CL group stage or to CL qualifying stage?
I believe that the top 2 in the league + Chelsea (regardless of league finish) would earn the automatic group-stage entry. The 3rd place finisher would qualify for the qualifying stage. As it stands now, top 3 quality for group stage and 4th place qualifies for the qualifying stage. As of today, Manchester United, Barca, Real Madrid, and Olympiakos have already qualified for next year's group stage.

Here is some trivia that I was very surprised by as I would have thought it should have happened before.

The Red Bulls have won three games in a row, by 3 goals each.

It was the first time in the 17 year history of the league that any team had won 3 games in a row, all by 3 goals or more.

:goodposting: I only got to see the half-time highlights "live", and saw Mario's yellow... thought it was pretty soft and Sagna made a complete meal of it. Of course, I hadn't yet seen Mario's hatchet job on Song so Sagna's making the most of what was- yeah, by definition, if not intent- a stud's up tackle makes more sense. As Pre says, Mario's one play from ending somebody else's career, so in a way I can forgive Sagna or other opponents making the most of a Mario tackle if the guy is clearly gone over to crazy as he obviously was today.

Inter has gone to ####, but at least they got this one right.

Hey Z- still want Balotelli over Tevez?

So i just looked at that "worst cheapshot" thread- baseball player get's blindsided while standing on 2nd base.

While travelling with my state u19 state team, I did the exact same thing to kid in Germany... I lack the energy or interest to report myself in that thread- figured I'd share it here.

The trip itself started out with my team being hosted by people telling us we shouldn't feel bad about losing to our first opponent- they're a good local team and had beaten other US visiting teams before (interestingly, my club team 2 years earlier had been told the same thing and had the same first game result). I think we reached double digits sometime just after the half and started switching positions around the same time. Immediately after this win, our team went from being "a team from the US" to eventually becoming "the US U-23 national team" (as reported by the local media and in flyers for the games) as our team continued to win games. Around this point of the tour, the Germans also started to take some serious cheap shots at us- particularly our key players- one of whom was a future MLSer, Billy Thompson, the other was a college team-mate of mine who despite being the best player on that particular team never recovered from getting his leg broken horrifyingly (everyone in the small stands could hear the *SNAP*) by a 2nd Div Bundesliga team (over the ball of course) later in the tour.

The game before the leg-breaking, one of the opposition's players single-handedly- and intentionally- took out both Thompson up front AND our key defender within minutes. He then went on to feign injury each ####### time he did it (common German bull####, as it turns out- the get a better rep about diving... but not from me and what I saw in two tours over there). I had the story in the back of my mind of our English coach desrcibing having his hamstring being stripped from the bone by an opponent as payback for something he had done earlier- so with that in mind, I waited for my chance. I gave it into the 2nd half- during one of our corner kicks up front, I was one of two defenders back at the center strip defending that ####er as far off the ball and play as could be imagined. I waited until our guy was just starting his run up kick the corner and started myself at a full sprint at the German who was facing the play with his back to me. I kneed him in the back of the leg at a full sprint and kept running- as if I was moving up to cover the space in front of him. The guy went down, and nobody figured out he was even down until the ball eventually went out of play. I'm sure this was de rigueur for CHristo, but for a tender little sissy foot MF/forward like myself- it wasn't. And I loved it.

I still don't know why I didn't wait for him to get on the ball and then go in for the kill. The end.

God, Arsenal took it to MCFC yesterday. Looks like another title for United. They are wonderfully consistent, I will give them that.

Another heartbreak for City. Only been a fan a few years and they broken my heart more than any other team I have followed my whole life.

I could be forgetting someone, but has the US team ever had a guy that made the opposition think twice before taking a cheap shot? They get pushed around and nobody ever pays for it.

Just wait to see if RM can fail after being 12 points up on Barça.

Spurs backline is a mess. They lost Kabul today before HT, no idea how serious it is, but if he's out for long, no way Spurs finish ahead of Newcastle or Cheslea. King is done, looks like he is running around in mud. Spurs still look great when they are swarming forward to attack, unfortunately that doesn't often produce goals, just nice looking runs, and glorious crosses that are easily plucked away by well formed defenses.

Well, I wouldn't back Spurs - but their schedule is miles away the easiest coming inChelsea still have Arsenal, Liverpool and NewcastleNewcastle with Chelsea and CitySpurs with nothing. But, since Newcastle got Cisse, been playing great. Spurs still running in FA Cup, and Chelsea still alive in CL and FAI think Newcastle at 10/1 is pretty damn good value.

not really no they haven't. They have had some strong players but no one who you would call an enforcer.I made a post on this a few pages ago and the US will always be behind the Central American countries when it comes to dirty play and gamesmanship and I kind of like that even if it puts them at a disadvantage going forward.

I would never have believed they could drop this far so quick. From a 10 point lead over Arsenal to battling Newcastle and Chelsea for fourth. Unbelievable.
They have won one in eight since Redknapp got tapped for the England job. They simply aren't playing for a manager with one foot out the door already. They might as well can him now and see if they can get a bump with Joe Jordan.

What an aweful weekend for the referees....

Balotelli not getting a red an hour before he did...

2 offside goals for Chelsea...

and the United game... Amazingly bad. What a way to end the game after 15 mins of play.

Ref misses Young being offside then red cards the defender?

Add to that the yellow given to Rafael for tripping over himself instead of earlier when he did deserve it? Often the ref missed calls on the throwin or corner and gave fouls for soft plays but not hard ones? What a complete mess by that ref.

As for the results, how hard must it be to watch City, Tottenham, Real Madrid right now?

And I have to wonder if Mancini will actually hold his word this time when he says Balotelli will be sold. After all he did say Tevez will never play for City again and we see how that turned out. So who is gone first, Mancini, Balotelli or Tevez?

In interviews the players are claiming it doesn't matter if he goes, so I'm  right now.

Prediction: Mancini out, Mou in.

Balotelli and Dzeko out, two good strikers (Adebayor returning?) back in.

I think the rumors of selling Aguero are nuts. You don't sell high-quality/low-maintenance, esp. when your team is loaded.

Hasn't Mancini let this happen to Balotelli? He had a chance in this game to sub in Tevez for Balotelli and avoid the red card and backlash from it, but takes off Aguero instead. He said in the previous game that he(Mario) should have been taken off after 5min, but left him on only to cause a scuffle with a teammate. Balotelli is a complete tool, but he's not been helped by his manager. I think many people in here mentioned that Mancini would be the downfall of City this year. That seems to be correct. Mancicni should be first to go, then the new man will move Mario

Why would Mou go to City? He hasn't vanquished the Catalans yet.

Eh, I expect the Bills to suck. I was just a kid when they were losing Super Bowls...I think I was still in junior high the last time they went to the playoffs.

He wants to coach in England again. Doesn't like living in Spain, etc.
He also likes playing mind games with the media. His reasons for staying seem a lot more tangible than his reasons for leaving.

Dempsey's a guy who will look for immediate payback on things that have happened to him only (ala Rooney), but I agree- can't think of other players who have had their teammates' backs on the field. But I'd still prefer to see guys take yellows crushing douchebags than just ##### foot around all game while absorbing cheap shots. But then again, given the climate of easy cards tossed around- especially for blatant tackles rather than cheap #### and dives- I guess it's smart not to get lured into this crap. And that's what the CONCACAF teams are trying to do typically- get a goal behind or up and start looking for ways to unfairly get back in or ice the game by eliminating players on the US.

And you're from Cincy, too? Hmmm- if only there was a team somewhere around there that continuously disappoints....

And btw- with my Thera-Flu induced story of revenge last night, I missed the comments that Song had taken out Toure earlier in the game. Now I get some of Super Mario's rage in that ugly tackle on Song.
