Feels like he fell off the side of planet. It has only been a couple years since he retired and I swear this is the first time I have seen his name mentioned.I feel like Mathis is linked to Wynalda and Dempsey as three US players who danced to their own drummer. Wynalda's less than stable mental side cost him some serious money in Germany, pissing off nearly everyone he could find in charge. Mathis was a little more stable than Wynalda but still had too much wild child in him for Europe, but this kid was extremely gifted for an American born player produced out of college. Dempsey got his wild side under control in MLS. Most people don't give Stevie Nicol enough credit for channeling Dempsey's wild attitude into a killer instinct on the field. What are the odds that Mathis weighs 250+?This would bring back some fun memories for me for $15http://www.soccernation.com/files/image/article/full_2618.jpg

What was the game that Casey basically fell over the ball, won a free kick that we scored on, which gave the US an important win in qualifying? I think it was some where in Central America. Now I hope Klinsmann benches all 3 and recalls Conor Casey.Gomez, Dempsey, and Jozy all on form. Hope this holds through the summer 2014.![]()

Actually, he'll only play part of the first half before he gets yanked.Props to Bob for admitting he ####ed up that one and making the move that needed to be made. Mancini could learn a thing or two about that'Sebowski said:Dont't worry, Ricardo Clark will hold down the MF.Wow, what a pairUS going with Casey and Findley up front next match![]()

[TRANSFER WATCH] Clint Dempsey has another year left on his contract with Fulham, but his current form -- a club record 16 EPL goals and 22 goals in all competitions -- has the British press abuzz about the chances of the Deuce moving in the offseason. The most tantalizing possibility is a move crosstown to Arsenal for what would surely be a record transfer fee for an American player.Fulham manager Martin Jol insisted Dempsey would stick around Craven Cottage after his American had the tying goal in the Cottagers' 1-1 tie with Chelsea on Monday.“Hopefully we will because he’s still here for next season as well, so we won’t sell him, so that is easy," the Dutch manager told Sky Sports. After the Chelsea game, Jol praised Dempsey for his versatility: “You can play him on the left and he will score goals, you can play him up front, although it is not his favorite position, but on Saturday he held the ball up well [two goals in 3-0 victory over Bolton Wanderers] and today again, and if you get the delivery he’s one of the best I know.”Dempsey's versatility makes him an attractive option for Arsenal. The Daily Mail reported that Gunners manager Arsene Wenger is contemplating a bid for the American after getting reports from his staff that "he would fit perfectly into the Gunners' system."Arsenal has already wrapped up a deal for another versatile attacking player, FC Cologne's Lukas Podolski, but its needs will depend in large part on whether it can keep Robin van Persie and Theo Walcott.Dempsey, who has also been linked to Manchester United and Tottenham, wants to concentrate on finishing out the current season before thinking about his future plans.“We’ll see what happens,” he said after Saturday's win over Bolton. “Some of my best memories have been at Fulham. I still have this season and one more at the club. I’m talking with Fulham but we’ll see in the summer. I just want to focus on my football and helping the club finish in the top half. That other stuff can take care of itself.”If Dempsey were to move this summer, the lucky winner would probably need to shell out at least $16 million. The record transfer fee for an American is the estimated $10 million Spanish club Villarreal paid for Jozy Altidore when he left the New York Red Bulls in 2008.

I just saw CR's two stunning goals from yesterday. I don't follow the Liga much, but have to think he's a favorite over Messi for player of the year based on what I've seen.CR7 scores on a rocket shot. Give him space and he'll destroy you. 2-1 RM
1) Realistically, it'll probably depend on who wins La Liga. Ronaldo's been great this year, but Messi's been just as good. And both have had some off games/mini-slumps, but they're both still pretty amazing.2)I just saw CR's two stunning goals from yesterday. -wise, I think Messi contributes a lot more defensively and has had a better year. Barca's pressing up high is a lot more valuable than just sulking as you walk back after possession is lost.Ever-so-slight shove in the back on his first one.Link to Jozy's bracehttp://www.socceroverthere.com/?p=8911

I'm not sure anyone thinks he would be. He'd still get a decent amount of games though, and at this point in his career it doesn't matter as much if he sits some. It's a lot different than a young guy riding pine. I do wonder why the allure of playing in the champions league is so strong considering he probably wouldn't see the field if his team made the final. Does a squad player for Arsenal make more than one of Fulham's best players?Am I the only one that thinks Dempsey wouldn't be a first-choice starter for Arsenal? Really hope he doesn't get Berbatoved somewhere.

I do not think he would be a first-choice starter for Arsenal on Arsenal's current team. He'd get minutes, though, like Moe said.Am I the only one that thinks Dempsey wouldn't be a first-choice starter for Arsenal? Really hope he doesn't get Berbatoved somewhere.
Would prefer to see him get starters minutes at least to the run up to 2014. No idea about the $$ though - is it that much more to be the 15th man in the squad for Arsenal vs. a star at Fulham?I do not think he would be a first-choice starter for Arsenal on Arsenal's current team. I don't think it is all about money for Dempsey at this point. He is single minded in his hope to play at least once in the Champions League if he is true to his word. And if it is even close to $16m, it is going to be hard for Fulham to turn down especially for a player who be 30 during the next EPL season.Would prefer to see him get starters minutes at least to the run up to 2014. Reminds me that we were just talking recently about Clint Mathis. This is nice. After Ben Arfa's run last weekend Soccernet put together a First XI of 50+ yard runs ending with a goal. I saw a few of these live and had seen some of others on video, but some were also new to me.
Then his best bet would be going to a Schalke, Zenit, Porto, Lyon type team.'NewlyRetired said:I don't think it is all about money for Dempsey at this point. I put more weight on Champions League than La Liga. Ronaldo is the met dangerous layer in the world with the ball at his feet. Messi is the best player in the world. I was thinking about this yesterday: What would Man U and what would Ronaldo look like right now if he stayed there? I don't mean that rhetorically. Honestly curious.'Good said:1) Realistically, it'll probably depend on who wins La Liga. Ronaldo's been great this year, but Messi's been just as good. I dunno, but that's laughable. Even Neymar doesn't think Neymar is better than Messi right now.Has Pele always been such an egotistical blowhard, or is he just that afraid of losing GOAT status to Messi? He seems to blast Messi at every turn and just said that Neymar is better than Messi right now. How can we take this guy seriously?
That happened right in my line of view from the 2nd level of the stadium. I was so angry. Koller destroyed the US in that game.'NewlyRetired said:Yeah that probably should have been a foul and reminds me greatly of Jan Koller pushing off Pope in the first game of the 2006 World Cup.'Steve Tasker said:Ever-so-slight shove in the back on his first one.'NewlyRetired said:Link to Jozy's bracehttp://www.socceroverthere.com/?p=8911
Didn't watch the video, but you need to check out some of Neymar's runs this year. Dude has incredible balance and ball control, plus a top gear that can blow past defenders. He'll be playing in la liga or Serie A next year and will be a top 3 goalscorer in either league.'wdcrob said:This is nice. I think he said he doesn't want to leave Brazil until after the World Cup. Dempsey just isn't the kind of player Wenger pays for. And Spurs really would make sense if they finish 4th and Adebayor leaves. Especially since Dempsey is a player that I can see Redknapp buying. The £10 million question is which of the top teams are going to be willing to bring him in and give him enough playing time to make the move beneficial for both parties. ... Arsenal has been thrown out as a possible destination, but his age and nationality go against the type of players that Arsene Wenger usually brings in. Personally I think that he would be a good fit for Tottenham. The strike force at Spurs is flimsy and will get worse after the season when Emmanuel Adebayor once again returns to Manchester City. Dempsey would be a welcome addition because of his versatility and would certainly be a cheaper option than Adebayor. If Spurs can hold off Newcastle and Chelsea for the final Champions League spot then I would almost certainly expect them to make a run at Dempsey. Newcastle would also be a dark horse for to acquire him as well, especially since they will secure European football this season. But I’ll stick with the safe route and say he ends up playing at White Hart Lane next season.

So when Barcelona sign him does the Champions league get really boring for the next 5-6 years?
It's very possible. I think Barcelona is trying to block him from RM as much as they want him for themselves. I don't think Barcelona can afford to sign him and probably shouldn't given significant recent investments in Cesc, Villa, and Sanchez upfront.
