No, I'm at work, which is why I'm following two British commentaries from two independent agencies, both of whom say it was the right call. Perhaps I should just follow the commentary from an ABU like yourself for a completely unbiased opinion.

It appears they are starting Lichaj on whichever side has the speedier winger. The last game I saw him he played on the right vs Cole/Sturridge and now left vs Valencia. He's not exactly getting the easy assignments but my guess is Mcleish is matching up based on speed. Honestly he's looked both quicker and faster than them all. Amazing for a guy his size.

That might benefit him for US placement as well as Klinsmann seems more flexible than Bradley. Bradley really only used him on the left as a last resort.

You would have to find a La Liga watcher that isn't a Barca fan around here. I think that pretty much leaves just Z.Glad Cuenca's dive yesterday isn't getting this much hate.

I didn't see the dive either, I was in the car. The Sirius/XM announcers didn't make it sound that bad, but they were pretty clearly biased in favor of United. I'll have to see it to judge for myself.

I pretty much agree with all of this, my only real question is why Rimando ahead of Hamid? Hamid is the first potential successor to Howard that we've seen emerge, I think - why not bring him in for some experience? Is it because he looked poor in the Olympic qualifying? Is he still hurt from that injury (I don't actually know, though I'm guessing it's not serious cause you have him in the stand-by list)?I don't have a problem with Rimando, but he's a known commodity at this point and he's 32. If I were selecting a team to take to the World Cup today, I'd agree that Rimando should be in it. Just wondering your thoughts...
Also, I think it says a lot about the overall quality (which is to say - not very high quality at this point at the international level) of the USMNT strikers if you consider the volatility in the position. Altidore is and should be the top guy, and I'd think that Agudelo stays in the picture if healthy. But consider that 2 of the 4 strikers that the USMNT took to the 2010 Cup have barely featured at all for the USMNT since then (Findley, Buddle....Buddle has made some appearances, but has Findley? I honestly can't recall any caps for him since the Cup), and the 3rd (Gomez) was on the absolute fringe of the squad until going on a tear. Just a few months ago we were lamenting the lack of really ANY good strikers for the USMNT, and now heading into qualifying, the USMNT has 4 of the strikers in the best form that I can ever recall a group of strikers having at the same time (Altidore, Gomez, Cooper, Wondo). And after all that, you've got the ultimate wildcard in Boyd, who hasn't even featured for his club at the senior level yet might bump one of the 4 listed above.

Also, the guys on the radio this morning had an interesting brief discussion at halftime of United/Villa. Chelsea have 4 games in 10 days against world-class competition (Spurs today, Barca, Arsenal, Barca). What do you do if you're the manager? The in-studio Chelsea fan/season-ticket holder says that he would play is best XI against Barcelona and that staying alive in the Champions League should be the top priority. What would you do? I know Christo in particular has stressed that he holds winning the league in higher regard than winning the Champions League. But Chelsea isn't going to win the league....but in all likelihood, they're not going to get past Barca anyway even if they play their best side. Tough decisions.

They're out of the EPL race, an almost impossible task in CL. So put your best XI out today and then see if they've still got enough gas in the tank to get a result against Barca mid-week.
And right before half-time, too. What a morale killer for Spurs.

Spurs have had their chances. A lot of times in these close matches it simply comes down to who can finish. Possession doesn't mean squat if you can't finish.And right before half-time, too. What a morale killer for Spurs.

CL is the highest regarded trophy in the World.No team/manager/supporter holds a league title in higher regard than CL trophy.If Chelsea had their choice it would be:CL Trophy 1CL qualifying 2FA cup 3

the other side of the coin is that their odds of winning CL are very low. And it's entirely possible if you put all your eggs in the champions league basket you come up completely empty. You have to weigh your odds here. For this reason, I don't think it's a straightforward call. Personally given their form and the cup situation, I'd go for top 4/FA and punt CL this season. But Roman would have sacked me long ago.

The fact that Terry is playing today with cracked ribs seems to indicate they like their odds here more than the Barca match.Their chances in CL are slim to none this year. I can't see how the League isn't first priority probably followed by the FA Cup.

I think I recall Christo saying this in this very thread (I don't mean to put words in his mouth if he didn't). I'd think you're right in that almost all people would hold the CL in higher regard than the league, and Chelsea has a chance (albeit very slim) to win the CL and no chance to win the league, so in that sense your decision makes sense. But finishing top 4 has a significant financial impact as well.
I was hoping that someone who has lived over there (Eephus, Christo [i think?], etc.) had an opinion on it. From an American standpoint, being removed from the actual "daily life" of European football, I view the CL as the ultimate title as well. Just wondering if others had a different perspective.

He went for the ball and Abedyor went over the core of his body - IMO if the arm went out to get him then yes - but Cech looked like he went straight for the ball - and actually got part of it.

I dont even pretend to know half as much about soccer as most here, but this is what I thought...How does a goal disallow a sending off?Tottenham should get the option...penalty kick and a red card or take the goal and play on

It's not Chelsea's fault that the ref has made a mess of this, but I do find myself rooting for Spurs now (plus always want an epic match)
