So, I don't suppose that many cable companies are going to start carrying Al-Jazeera next year. Will Comcast pick it up and add it to their sports package? Will La Liga games have to be watched on the internet? Will it be awkward to walk into a sports bar, and ask them to turn on Al-Jazeera?
Unless something came out I missed, Al-Jazeera have yet to announce where it will broadcast the La Liga games. I do not think it will be on the main station.I think they will do one of the following1) start a sports channel, with limited household penetration2) buy gol tv and nothing changes3) buy gol tv and rebrand

Random factoid

The most recent Gold Cup had higher average attendance (45,624), than either the most recent Euro (36,803) or most recent Copa America (33,947)

I don't see how they can connect their name with it directly and sell it in the US. I'm not sure they can even successfully do it indirectly. I imagine even carrying it would put companies under serious PR pressures.Like it or not, most people are going to link it directly to terrorists. It became a big name around the Iraq war as a mouthpiece for the Saddam regime and I doubt most Americans have since experienced it and/or disassociated it from that perspective.Their best shot is leaving goltv as it is and hope it just slides under the radar.

I think I've read they chose 1.

Ok cool, thanks. They must be buying their way and subsidizing their cost to get into some satellite and cable packages.

Completely agree with this.

Maybe they are hoping that by branding it Al-Jazeera Sport or whatever, they can redeem the brand name for more Americans, thereby gaining market penetration for their other cable stations?

I can't find where I read that though, so I could be delusional.

I have read that it is one of the possibilities but I had missed where it was finalized. We should know for sure in a few months or less.

Barcelona are going to need every last inch of their slightly bigger home field to try and break down the 10 men behind the ball defense of Chelsea.
Chelsea will have to play to score a goal at Camp Nou imo. If they score or its 0-0 going into the last 20 min or so, then we will see the bus get parked.
Dont you think they will park it if its 0-0 at half??I watched a CL game 2 years ago maybe? where Barca was down 1-0 headed home in the semis I think against Inter. It was just attack...clear...rinse/repeat. I was actually quite entertained by it.
I think they are going to park the bus until Barca scores. Once they got the goal today they pretty much dropped into a 6-4-0. I imagine they will put Drogba up to hold the ball on a counter-attack and drop the other nine back.
 I think you mean a 4-3-3
9-1
Clearly a variation on the 4-3-3.

Sure, the 433.

The odds that Chelsea advance are pretty low IMO. They were crushed at home and scored with their only shot on goal IIRC.

ETA: just looked it up and Barca are still roughly 2:1 to advance. That's actually better for Chelsea than I expected.

Drogba out for this saturday and possibly next tuesday.

Frankie Hejduk retired today. Ives believes he should be elected to the hall of fame. I am not quite as sure. Fantastic longevity but he never really had a huge peak to make him stand out at the international level.
I grew up with Frankie. We weren't great friends, but we went to Jr. High and High School together and played on a lot of the same teams so obviously you get to know each other. Really a nice, down to earth guy. At least back then. Seemed to care more about surfing than soccer though. I guess it all worked out for him to have both.
Hey Jonessed, you went to San Dieguito (i googled since I didnt remember where he went)? I played against Frankie in HS, club and college. I went to Mt Carmel HS.

Odds on the outcome at Sportsbook are:Barca -454Draw +550Chels +900Of course, Chelsea could advance with a scoring loss, and SB has not yet posted updated odds on "to reach the final".

Barca's 1-8-1 tactic (but they DOMINATED POSSESSION!!!)

Bayern rolls out a B team tomorrow, right? It doesn't look like they have much to gain or lose in league play. Big advantage for them, given that the other three CL teams have a lot to play for this weekend.

Thanks! Sounds like purchasing Gol TV is still a possibility. If they don't, not many of us are going to see this new channel.

Well, then you had to have played against me. Hopefully I did well.

And shots. 24 to ####### 4. Don't try to sound like they passed the ball back and forth for 90 mins. 4 shots. 4. GTFO.

I laughed a bit when I saw that Valdes had zero saves in the game. Cech had 6 and his woodwork was hig pretty hard.

Ribery fined for punching Robben

Franck Ribery has allegedly been fined €50,000 for punching Bayern Munich team-mate Arjen Robben in the dressing room during half-time in the 2-1 win over Real Madrid on Tuesday night, according to Bild.

The France international is believed to have lashed out at his attacking colleague due to not being allowed to take a free-kick in the 40th minute.

The mark on the Dutch winger's face was evident and the club has acted quickly to punish the perpetrator.

Despite Jupp Heynckes denying the incident had happened, the German newspaper indicate that Ribery has been given the sizable fine as punishment.

Bayern Munich face Werder Bremen at the weekend before the return leg of their semi-final tie with Real Madrid next Wednesday.

That's the thinking and the hope, but you never know with Jupp.
Neuer, Rafinha, Tymoshchuck, Gustavo, Contento, Schweinsteiger, Pranjic, Usami, Müller, Olic, Petersen are the starters for Bayern today. Gomez, Ribery, Robben, Lahm, Badstuber, Alaba all on the bench.

If you're going to add a game at least be accurate! Newcastle is blowing out Stoke so I got excited figuring I could flip over and watch the second half of the Bayern game. But nooooooooooooo, Mjolnirs put down the starting time in the East!

I'm alright with a draw against Chelsea. Leaves the door open for both Newcastle and Spurs, but taking 4 points from Chelsea during the year is an accomplishment, even if they are in 6th now.

If Chelsea somehow manage to get by Barca, that 3-team race for third (with Chelsea as the outside challenger) becomes very interesting.

El Mundo Deportivo is reporting that Tello will start for Sanchez and Thiago will start for Cesc today. Those are the only two changes in the starting XI from Wednesday.
