Reports in Spain suggest that Athletic Bilbao manager Marcelo Bielsa has resigned after the club failed to support him over an altercation with construction staff.Bielsa returned for pre-season training ahead of the 2012-13 season to find the club's Lezama training centre resembling a construction site and was involved in a furious row with construction staff."The condition of Lezama is an insult to the players and I am responsible for them," Bielsa explained. "I was indignant because that was not recognised and began to say offensive things. I don't respect him because he did a bad job."
:boxing:
Any decent job openings left out there? Bielsa's pretty highly regarded and his teams play a very attacking style.
Has this really been confirmed? I couldn't imagine a more idiotic way of losing a great manager.

I litterally can't believe I am about to type this. It has been nearly a decade of me ragging on this player. But it must be said.

Eddie Johnson looks fantastic! Yes, that Eddie Johnson.

I have watched him play twice in the last week and came away impressed both times.

Strong on the ball, solid hold up play, excellent in the air, still has that incredible pace and will run at players. Short and medium distribution was great.

And get this. His off the ball running was the best I have ever seen from him. Granted he was beyond weak in that area but even ignoring it he looked good. Nice angles, good timing, and very active (something he was never known to be).

Sigi even started him in place of a healthy Montero tonight.

Both announcers talked a lot about him. Martino went as far as saying if this continues, Klinsmann is going to call him up.

His scoring has come a long with the great play. 6 goals in his last 9 games.

Not confirmed. Actually sounds like he's going to stay now although that isn't confirmed, either.

Per Sky, Liverpool want to sign Clint Dempsey for £6 million.
Interesting... of the top(ish) teams I thought Liverpool was always a better destination for Dempsey than the big four or Tottenham. He'd play, and he's exactly the sort of player, capable of holding play up, distributing from up-front and scoring, that Liverpool need. They've been very direct for a few years now, but without Alonso alongside Gerrard and no top-notch striker up front (Torres) it just hasn't worked very well. Dempsey would help a bit by serving as a nice connector between the midfield and a true striker (though I still don't think Carroll is very good).

Here is the starting lineup for the MLS All star game that will face Chelsea. No holding midfielder. Becks may have to fill that role I guess or sub DeRo out early for Alonso (assuming he makes the team).

Goalkeeper: Jimmy Nielsen (Sporting Kansas City)

Defenders: Steven Beitashour (San Jose Earthquakes), Aurélien Collin (Sporting Kansas City), Jay DeMerit (Vancouver Whitecaps FC), Heath Pearce (New York Red Bulls)

Midfielders: David Beckham (LA Galaxy), Dwayne De Rosario (D.C. United), Landon Donovan (LA Galaxy), Graham Zusi (Sporting Kansas City)

Forwards: Thierry Henry (New York Red Bulls), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes)

They didn't have some used shin pads to throw in?
Transfermarkt puts his value at 15.000.000 €edit: = about twice what Liverpool is reportedly offering.
Will throw in Charlie Adam.
I imagine Fulham would take 6M plus Adam. I doubt Liverpool offer it though.Liverpool fans throw way too much blame on Adam. He was cheap, his wages aren't that high, and he was on a team whose strikers either couldn't score or couldn't find a way to stay on the field. He and Enrique were by far the cheapest in that big transfer window and they both performed well considering the team as a whole was largely a flop. 75M for Carrol, Henderson, and Downing? Now that is a travesty.

I would actually like to see Dempsey stay with Fulham. He gets a ton of playtime, the team is really centered around his goalscoring, he gets to take freekicks, etc. He still gets the experience of playing in the EPL. I can understand his personal motivations, but as far as the US team is concerned he's probably better off at Fulham.

And Liverpool doesn't give him the Champions League. They do have a better chance in the future but I think Dempsey only wants to leave if he gets the Champions League while he is still in his prime. Of course, the big time Champions League teams would be tough for him to get in the XI consistently.

Anyone else think that it's not too far fetched to believe that by this time next year, Fox Soccer Channel may not exist any more?

Lost Serie A

Lost Ligue 1

Lost MLS

Lost US Nats games

Lost the SPL Old Firm (and is reevaluating its options regarding the SPL in general).

If they lose the EPL for the next contract (bidding should occur in the next few months), I think Fox is going to rebrand FSC as Fox Sports 1.

The rumor is that Fox is looking at Speed, Fuel or FSC to rebrand as their first national sports network.

If Fox loses the EPL, the only viable soccer product they have left will be the UCL.

Where do things stand with La Liga being shown in the US? Seems like we're right around the corner here.
La Liga, like Serie A and Ligue 1, is owned by BeIn Sports. Rumors are that there may be two channels, BeIn Sports 1 (in English) and BeIn Sports Dos (in Spanish). Just rumors though. Nothing official yet about which cable and or satellite providers will be carrying the channel(s). The channel(s) officially launch August 1st. I still hold out some hope that they will just buy GolTv but that rumor seems to have died down.

Hopefully ESPN will take the CL back.

Fox has the CL through the 2014/2015 season so we don't need to worry about that property for a while. Even if FSC gets rebranded, the CL will still be carried as usual. Fox has some interesting choices to make. They have been the dominant provider for a while now culminating in getting the WC in 2018/2022. But they quickly lost their base. If Comcast(NBC/Telemundo) and/or BeIn Sports decides to put in a huge bid for the EPL, Fox could be left shrugging their shoulders. I don't see ESPN being a huge player as their bidding has been conservative lately. Perhaps they may try and partner with someone.

I guess this solves the midfield problemBrian Straus (@BrianStraus)7/9/12 11:21 AMImportant to note, despite ESPN calling it the "Starting 11", that Olsen doesn't have to take any of the players announced yesterday to All star game.

EBJT has pleaded not guilty to the charge.QUOTE OF THE DAY II"I said to him: 'How can you call me a c**t? Prosecutor asks John Terry if he has ever heard the words 'your mum's a slag' on a pitch. Terry says he has.
Prosecutor turns to Terry again: 'You're not fat, are you? You're a supreme athlete.' Terry: 'I used to be.'
Terry 'it didn't smell but I pretended he had bad breath'
Terry says there's a superstition at Chelsea where he, Cole, Lampard and Sturridge change beside one another - until they lose

I was wondering where you have been. Go on vacation? Not too much going on, here is a quick summary1) Platini is still a #####, but the goal line technology was approved. It is up to the individual leagues to implement if they want. FIFA will introduce at World Club Cup.2) Nowak and Spencer were fired from MLS3) Revs signed a DP from Honduras (Jerry Bengston), and Montreal signed Nesta4) Omar Gonzalez made his return early than expected5) Eddie Johnson is giving off the unexpected impression that the light may have finally gone off after all these years6) RVP is all but forcing Arsenal to sell him7) DC United has two new majority owners, officially announced today.8) Steve Zakuani made his first appearance this past weekend since his horrific injury from Brian Mullin last year9) Bunch of transfer rumors and signings but nothing major. Still waiting for Bradley to be official at Roma

My son's FIFA 11 LA Galaxy team won the league and the MLS Cup double, lead by 35 goals from Juan Angel and 15 more from mid-season acquisition Neymar. Also, it appears that Anton Ferdinand is indeed a ####ing c*%#.

They approved both. The leagues can choose which one they want to use.

They approved two technologies. Hawkeye and GoalRef. Hawkeye is the more expensive system and provides replays but requires at least 25% of ball to be visible to work. GoalRef simply puts a microchip in the ball and uses low magnetic waves around goal. No visibility is needed, no replays available. It is up to the individual leagues and organizations to implement what they want. Platini stomped his little foot and said Champions League will not use it but I am unsure if he is the final call on it. MLS will likely be one of the first leagues to use it starting in the 2013 season.

After speaking with my new aunt and her family here in Turkey, I am hitching myself to the Fenerbahce bandwagon. Man, these people hate Galatasaray.

Interesting to note that their city (Kayseri) has a team in the premier league (Kayserispor), but no one really cares. The way they explained it, 95% of people are fans of one of the "big 3". Kayserispor is their second favorite team, even though it's their hometown team and they don't live near Istanbul.

I've been catching this on Sky Sports a bit. It's absolutley hilarious. If you want to see PC gone crazy here it is. These guys were really getting into some nasty personal insults, but it was all cool until Terry either responded to or said something racial (which Ferdinand says he didn't even hear). Then a few days later when someone shows a video with no sound we get professional lipreaders, Ferdinand goes ape####, the police file charges, Capello gets canned, the Rio/Terry "split" happens on the English team, the media goes into a frenzy, etc. It's just incredibly bizarre to watch.

I was on the Fenerbahce bandwagon until all that match-fixing crap went down. Even watched a few games on bad internet feeds.I saw their 2011 title-clinching game at Sivasspor and it was a perfect example of what you're talking about. Road game, but it seemed like every single fan there was pro-Fener. When Sivas scored, they played some song that I think the crowd was supposed to sing along with but it got no response.

Don't hurt anyone's feelings in England. Especially if you play soccer.
