City has offered to compensate all of his lost wages, City and Tottenham have agreed to the transfer fee, he just wants to eek some more money out of City. He's such a little #####.They don't need a big name striker anyway. Newcastle has done great with Ba and Cisse. Hell, Tottenham could have taken Ba for what? 5-8MM? At this point they just need a stop-gap. Defoe doesn't fit the system. They need someone that can hold the ball up.
They go get Vertonghen, the Eredivise player of the year and Ajax co-captain, but he's sitting on the bench in favor of a 35 year old Gallas. 
I guess the answer is AVB.

Gallas has played well. I wasn't that surprised to see him really. Vertonghen didn't mesh well in the preseason. I think he needs some more time to adjust.VDV and Siggy are the same type of player.

This seems to happen in Germany more than other leagues. I bet this was not their first team. None of the Americans played (Gyau, Johnson or Williams) I see.

Ah, a few thoughts about the Newcastle/Spurs game...
I still don't think Newcastle is getting near enough respect. Solid club. Amoebi picked up an injury in warmups and was unavailable, Tiote got dinged early, and yet they still perserved.
Spurs is probably the only team that has the speed in the back to really deal with Newcastle's counter, without Walker back there in particular, I really think Newcastle would have had even more opportunities. Ben Arfa is a fun player to watch too.
Oh, and Defoe was offside.
What does surprise me is why Vertonghen didn't start over Gallas. Gallas played fine, but I mean, you bring in a big transfer, I think you should play him over a 35 year old player who's best days are behind him. I also agreed with the commentator who said something to the effect of bringing VDV on for Siggy doesn't make much change in the attack, or shape of the team. Also, KAne didn't offer much. Spurs need sell Modric soon and spend that money ASAP. Getting Addy out there would definitely help too.
I'm interested more in the Chelsea game tomorrow than the city game. And RM/Valencia should be a good one. PSG gonna unveil their high money team. Lastly, I guess I'm late to the party and just didn't realize it, but losing Serie A from fsc kinda sucks. I knew La Liga was going there, and I don't watch hardly any Spanish league play, but I do watch a lot of Italian soccer, and I guess I'm gonna have to start learning spanish, and watch MExican league soccer as an alternative, because that is much more pleasing brand of soccer over what mls has to offer

Newcastle's depth is a potential issue. They have a quality XI but the drop off after that is pretty severe. I got home from my draft today and sit down to watch the recorded West Ham game. I FF through the beginning of the recording and see the final score flash by before kickoff.

I like Song a lot, but I can't see him playing much in midfield ahead of Busquets. I'd wager Song is largely a Keita replacement. The caveat is that I think Song is a pretty capable center back, enough that I sometimes thought Wenger should move him there full time. He's a guy that seems best playing in the middle, but whether that's a holding MF or a CB is up to Barcelona. Definitely gives them a flexible plsyer who can play both sides of the ball very well. A real loss for Arsenal- he was fantastic last year.

I like how disciplined they are on both sides of the ball- they keep great shape throughout the field and actually get guys forward with support (the benefit of keeping their shape while attacking). The obvious downside is, their players aren't as skilled and don't see the pass/move as quickly as better players and teams... but if they keep their team discipline and health this year, they should be fun to watch and will likely give a lot of teams trouble.

Too bad Barça thumped Real Sociedad...My boys kick off soon against Levante. Not too many changes from their Europa championship team last year. I think there's slightly less talent with the departure of Diego, but they are a top 4 la liga side with what they have. Definitely. Every year we get this team- they play nice, attractive attacking soccer. Do well for 2/3 of the season and then the wheels come off when the real season push happens. No depth, injuries and teams getting to see them a second time around showcases all the weaknesses of these "fun" promoted teams.
But they're still a good watch, so bandwagon *maintained*

This is going to be fun. Boyd, Herc, Jozy and Wondo all are going to have a chance to lead their respective leagues in scoring this year.

Yeah- liked that he kept the ball on the second one. it was the right call, anyways- the other forward made a nice run and drew his defenders with him, opening space for Jozy in the middle.I really liked that burst he gave on the first. passed the ball off, started his run to the far post and then switched gears which put him there ahead of the defender.
last game we got to see the strength, holding off defenders. this time a little pace... looking good so far.
