About time. They could have really used him against Newcastle.They finally got rid of Bassong as well (and apparently recouped their investment). It's too bad about him. He was great in 09/10 and then fell out of favor. Hopefully he does well for QPR.

I hear that Dawson might also be available which would be interesting. He's a very good player and leader, but he isn't fast enough to play that high line that AVB likes. They could easily keep him as a back-up, but if anybody loses a CB in the next week they may swoop in and grab him.

Dawson and Huddlestone have reported been listed. AVB and Arry couldn't be less alike but Spurs' habit of pushing moves to the deadline continues.

Levy does that work and he has always been like that. It pisses me off sometimes, but considering were they finish with their budget it's hard to complain. Once they complete the new stadium maybe things will change.Edit: It looks like they got Adebayor for 5M and City is subsidizing 90K/week of his wages for the next two years so he fits in with Tottenham's top wage scale of 80K/week. That's quite a steal for someone of his quality. He certainly has issues, but he is worth far more than 5M and should easily see out his contract (after three years he will be 32).

My guess is that City was the one to fold as they try and bring in Llorente. I know he is a big Juve target, but I think City are going to nab him.

I imagine if Huddlestone is really available he will be picked up as well. He's a great player who has just had a lot of injuries. Outside of Dawson it's all good news as none of these guys were going to get any time. Dawson is going to be a tough one to sell to a lot of Tottenham fans (Huddlestone as well if he is actually available).

Now, if we could only get someone to pick up Bentley.

I am not sure as I did not see the game but Bolton lost 2-0 on Saturday but you don't often see a center back changed even in a quick turn around game so it may indicate he did not play well. I guess we will have to wait until the 3rd game to see what is what.

I think Modric is trying to get some kind of "loyalty bonus" payment that was in his contract and Levy is saying that he broke his contract by going on strike. I don't know the ins-and-outs, but it is on hold again. It has to go through at some point I imagine. Apparently Xabi Alonso isn't real happy (and getting older) and Modric is actually pretty important to their future plans.

I checked the Bolton website and did a quick search for any news... nothing, other than to say that he and Petrov were sat in favor of Eagles and another cat.I'm hoping it's just about giving him a rest and not losing his starting spot. Long season, though.Only interesting thing out of the search was an interview with him where he comments on adjusting to the difference in style from the EPL- more physical and direct. Not exactly his strong-suits.

I learned that searching Twitter for "Ream" returns some rather interesting results and his play on Saturday left a lot to be desired.

I think he was an initial investor owner of DC United back in 1996. He bailed early if memory serves.

The anti-Glazer contingent will view the stake as a big negative. With the way the offering was structured, there's no possibility for a hostile takeover. Soros' investment strengthens the Glazers' position. If SAF spends on a defender before the window closes, they'll probably like it though.

To be fair- he did take a nasty cheap-shot knee to the head after getting fouled just prior to that red and owed that clown a little sumpin-sumpin. But right then, right there with his foot 4' above the ground straight into the other guy's knee right in front of the ref? C'mon now natty dread...
 
Liverpool and Tottenham are leading the race to sign out-of-favour Man City winger Adam Johnson, according to the Mirror.

The England attacker was left out of the City squad for Sunday’s 3-2 win over Southampton so he could spend time resolving his future, and it seems he has a number of options available to him.

Liverpool, Tottenham, Sunderland, Newcastle and Everton are all said to be interested in the 25-year-old and are all willing to meet City’s £10m asking price.

Sunderland are understood to be pushing hard for a deal and are prepared to meet his valuation and wage demands. However, the Mirror claim the player would prefer a move to either Anfield or White Hart Lane.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is believed to be confident he can secure a deal before the transfer window closes but may need to wait until Luka Modric is sold before he has the funds available to finalise the move. Liverpool are also keen with Brendan Rodgers eager to add Johnson’s creativity to his side.

The former Middlesborough midfielder has struggled to secure a first team spot at City since making the move in 2010, and feels he needs to move on to boost his England chances after missing out on Euro 2012.

Any idea why Sturridge isn't playing for Chelsea at this point? With Torres being their only striker, do they plan on keeping him on the bench for most of the year?

beIN Sport just stepped up big time. I mentioned last week that there was a rumor that one of the cable networks was sniffing around the possibility of purchasing the rights for the Jamaica away qualifier instead of having it on PPV.

Today beIN Sport announced it has purchased the rights for every away game left in qualifying (including the hexagonal), (not including the Mexico game).

Sweet!!!

Before too long, American soccer fans will have memorized that beIN Sport channel number on their programming guide.

The newest American soccer network guaranteed that much on Wednesday by securing television rights to every single US national team away match in 2014 World Cup qualifying, including the hexagonal round.

Already the home for all South American World Cup qualifiers, beIN Sport will also be the destination for CONCACAF World Cup qualifying matches after also securing TV rights to every single match for all other national teams in the region with the exception of Mexico.

The new network has already made waves in the US soccer television landscape by claiming rights to Spain's La Liga, Italy's Serie A and France's Ligue 1.

Wednesday's latest rights announcement brings an end to the uncertainty that has surrounded recent USMNT road qualifiers. A variety of networks have carried select matches over the years with others being available only on a pay-per-view basis.

While the US Soccer Federation holds TV rights to matches on US soil, broadcast rights to away matches are controlled by respective host federations, a set-up which has contributed to the inconsistency in coverage.

USMNT coverage on beIN Sport starts with the upcoming visit to "The Office" on Sept. 7, when Jurgen Klinsmann's squad visits Kingston, Jamaica.

probably so but of the clubs I've seen so far, they are by far the least talented. Real hard workers but they are going to get destroyed in some games. I don't think they have much chance to stay up....especially if their GK is going to play like that. 6 points or not, Chelsea are a mess at the back imo. This wasn't a United defense being unable to handle a physical presence like Fellaini as few have a Fellaini in their side. It was a defense that got worked quite a bit by a side that simply lack skill. Reading aren't particularly fast and didn't do anything tricky. They just made basic movements and created a lot of good chances. OTOH, I really like that Hazard kid. Now if they can find a striker to work with him....

Chelsea was also playing with their first string defenders. MUFC was working with a makeshift back four including two out-of-position midfielders.

Their opening fixtures are pretty soft. Home vs Newcastle, a week off, away to QPR, Stoke at the Bridge, away at Arsenal and Norwich at home. Six weeks and the furthest they have to travel is from SW6 to N5.

No question Chelsea has massive talent offensively but they clearly need the time the schedule could provide in order to gel. Hazard in particular but generally their one on one ball skills are lethal. However, no one seem to be on the same page. I know they have scored 6 goals but 2 were on Hazard 1v1 created penalty kicks, the other goal v Wigan was a huge defensive breakdown, throw in the no goalie goal, the goalie should have fairly easily smothered Cahill's shot, and the missed offside call on Torres. The Torres goal was the only one really created by teamwork.
 
Anyone see this show about Wembley FC on NBC Sports - they have a guy trying out for keeper that I know I could beat out - even at 54. They have hired Terry Venables as the coach/director
