Don't think of him as a goal scorer- incorrectly, obviously. Man- the best US player possibly ever to not feature with the Nats.Twellman's scoring rate is the most impressive of the top scorers. There aren't enough competitive games against common opponents to have a viable seeding system. Even if there was, the minnow federations of UEFA wouldn't agree with it.Ultimately, Dortmund has only themselves to blame for their place in Pot D. They finished bottom of a winnable group last year and I don't believe they made it out of the group stage in their last Europa League appearance.'Good said:That just seems ridiculous to me. Why not use a seeding committee like the NCAA tournament? They goof up sometimes too, but you don't ever see them make a Top 10 team a 12 seed.'Mello said:I think that's based on the UEFA club coefficients which are based on Europeans competition results over the last 5 years. I guess I don't understand why they don't take league play into account when factoring how which teams are the strongest. Just going off of previous European competitions is a pretty small sample size, and obviously produces some weird results. There aren't enough competitive games against common opponents to have a viable seeding system. An individual club's coefficient is made up of two items1) The results of club in the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League over the previous five seasons2) The coefficient of the clubs domestic leagueWeighting is 80% to #1 and 20% to #2I guess I don't understand why they don't take league play into account when factoring how which teams are the strongest. Absolutely brutal, but should be fun to watch. Dortmund and Ajax must be PISSED.Champions League draw out. Oof - what a group:Real Madrid (Spain)Manchester City (England)Ajax (Netherlands)Borussia Dortmund (Germany)
I don't think league coefficient makes much sense either. Maybe factor it in if you use a team's league performance to gauge how good they are, but what if you have a great team from a top-heavy league? An individual club's coefficient is made up of two items1) The results of club in the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League over the previous five seasons2) The coefficient of the clubs domestic leagueWeighting is 80% to #1 and 20% to #2I guess I don't understand why they don't take league play into account when factoring how which teams are the strongest. Has anybody at all even heard word one from Liverpool that Liverpool actually wants Dempsey?Per BBC the rumor is:Berbatov getting his medical at FulhamandLiverpool is loaning Carroll to WesthamsoDempsey can move from Fulham to LiverpoolAny rumors about Dempsey popping up? Carroll to West Ham on loan
They pay all of his wages, and if they stay up, will buy him for 17 million pounds. Clint Dempsey and Theo Walcott, Fernando Llorente to the Courtesy Phone, please.
Many teams qualify for the Champions LeagueOnce they are whittled down to 32 teams, they are drawn into 8 groups (similar to how a World Cup draw works)Group stage play is a home and away game against every other team in your groupTop two from each group advance to round of 16 at which point it becomes a knock out tournament.Alright, so I'm new to this. Can one of you explain this draw and how it works and what it's being used for?
Rodgers did mention him a few weeks ago. And Fenway Sports Group had a press release up on the website at one time announcing they had made an offer (Fulham says they never received an offer).Has anybody at all even heard word one from Liverpool that Liverpool actually wants Dempsey?Per BBC the rumor is:Berbatov getting his medical at FulhamandLiverpool is loaning Carroll to WesthamsoDempsey can move from Fulham to LiverpoolAny rumors about Dempsey popping up? Interesting. Is this SOP and I've just not seen it before, or is it relatively unusual? Like the structure a lot from WHU's side -- very sensible.if they stay up, will buy him for 17 million pounds.
That press release was an obvious mistake. It got taken down almost immediately. Fulham has been very vocal saying that they never received an offer and even put in a formal complaint against Liverpool.Rodgers did mention him a few weeks ago. 'Knock out' also being two games -- one home and one away -- with aggregate score across both determining the winner. Away goals being the first tie-breaker to encourage visiting teams to attack instead of bunker and play for the draw.Group stage play is a home and away game against every other team in your groupTop two from each group advance to round of 16 at which point it becomes a knock out tournament.
So are they already down to the 32 teams? I know it's a complicated system (I tried reading about it once and gave up) but Is this all based on last year's results? And when do all these matches start taking place and over what period of time? Many teams qualify for the Champions LeagueOnce they are whittled down to 32 teams, they are drawn into 8 groups (similar to how a World Cup draw works)Group stage play is a home and away game against every other team in your groupTop two from each group advance to round of 16 at which point it becomes a knock out tournament.Alright, so I'm new to this. Maybe I haven't watched him close enough but I really liked what Carrol had been doing toward the end of last season and with the national club. I know he's not cheap but seems like it would be smart to keep him around with Suarez. I liked the chemistry of those two together. If they can bring in Walcott and Clint, then I'll be pleased.Carroll to West Ham on loan

All of it's been second-hand reports. The only official news we really know is that Liverpool has never made an offer.Has anybody at all even heard word one from Liverpool that Liverpool actually wants Dempsey?Per BBC the rumor is:Berbatov getting his medical at FulhamandLiverpool is loaning Carroll to WesthamsoDempsey can move from Fulham to LiverpoolAny rumors about Dempsey popping up? I'll state an incredibly unpopular opinion. Since about March of last year, Liverpool has played better with Carrol than with Suarez. This is not to say that Suarez is not a better player. He is. But Suarez demands the ball so much that he can really do mischief to the team's attack on the days when he doesn't have his finishing boots (which have become increasingly common). Far too often, IMO, Liverpool's offense revolves around Suarez making a bunch of awesome one on one moves that ultimately amount to nothing.Maybe I haven't watched him close enough but I really liked what Carrol had been doing toward the end of last season and with the national club. It's based on your league's UEFA ranking and last season's results. If your league is ranked 1-3 in Europe (currently England, Spain, Germany) the top 3 teams in last season's standings go right into the 32-team group stage and one team goes into qualifying. Smaller countries can only get 1 team in and even then it takes a lot of qualifying. The Champions League plays on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and moves very slowly. The group stage will run from September to December, then they'll take a winter break before the knockout rounds start in late February. So are they already down to the 32 teams?
