Carroll to West Ham on loan
They pay all of his wages, and if they stay up, will buy him for 17 million pounds. Clint Dempsey and Theo Walcott, to the Courtesy Phone, please.
Maybe I haven't watched him close enough but I really liked what Carrol had been doing toward the end of last season and with the national club. I know he's not cheap but seems like it would be smart to keep him around with Suarez. I liked the chemistry of those two together. If they can bring in Walcott and Clint, then I'll be pleased.
I'll state an incredibly unpopular opinion. Since about March of last year, Liverpool has played better with Carrol than with Suarez. This is not to say that Suarez is not a better player. He is. But Suarez demands the ball so much that he can really do mischief to the team's attack on the days when he doesn't have his finishing boots (which have become increasingly common). Far too often, IMO, Liverpool's offense revolves around Suarez making a bunch of awesome one on one moves that ultimately amount to nothing.
I can follow this train of thought but both of those guys combined make #### happen. Suarez alluding defenders and Carrol posting up for crosses/long balls. I don't follow the rumor mill but I'm sure this was some interclub personal bs as opposed to $ or talent.
They
could/should make things happen. One of the best post-up target forwards and one of the best counterparts at finding space, beating guys off the dribble and just hustling all out.But as Scoob says, Suarez can frustrate his teammates by putting the head down and avoiding their useful runs in support. I haven't seen enough of these two actually on the field at the same time to judge whether they actually work or not- so far not, but yeah- the combo of talents seems like a good fit.
And Carrol was a monster before he joined Liverpool, but the style was more direct and he was the focal point.
