I always like seeing the US Soccer quote sheet after games.... this time there wasn't much, but Dempsey's excuses... I mean reasons... seem the most telling:

“It was difficult game and we knew it was always going to be tough, especially dealing with the conditions. Most of us are playing in Europe and we come here and it's over 90 degrees at a 3:00. Both teams have to deal with those conditions but it's difficult because you can't press and run and have the endurance that you would have in other games. It was frustrating trying to adapt and play but you have to keep going.”
We're world-class athletes, but it was too hot.... for us. Not for them.
So reading between the lines, it does seem they just avoided running to conserve energy for the 90. Awesome.

Radio guys said he could've had 5 if he was a little luckier, they made it sound like Krul absolutely robbed him twice at the end of the game.
I'd say 4. He had Krul dead to rights on one but went for power rather than placement and Krul was able to get a hand to it. Another time he had an open net but was going away from goal and had to stretch with his right foot and ended up putting it over the bar. I think that one was harder than the commentators were making it out to be.

He got in as a late sub for his first EPL action. Pretty cool.

Klinsmann is starting to make a lot more sense to me. At first, I thought he was just being a European snob, but that performance wasn't just flat, it was lazy. I don't believe that's something American fans should put up with. If you lack talent, but show heart, that's fine. Great win for the Super Eagles who lift the African Cup of Nations for the first time since 1994. Nigeria is a big country and a historical power but they've underachieved recently and were underdogs in both the quarter and semi-finals. Coach Stephen Keshi stood up to some European based players and field a side with a mixture of them and players from the Nigerian leagues. They were well suited to the high intensity midfield slugfests that characterize African soccer these days.

Very tight battle for the CL play-in berth in La Liga. Valencia, Rayo, Real Sociedad, Betis, and Levante all within four points of each other. EPL, Liga, and Bundesliga are even more anti-climactic now.

Yeah, my Atleti losing today all but seals up what we've known for a long time... Barcelona wins la liga this year going away. I think they are conserving their energy for a shot at Copa del Rey hardware and their Europa title defense. Although finishing higher than Real is a real goal too.
