Not a fan of United or AF, but I do admire the way they do business. Ignore the high-profile name managers in favor of a guy who's worked his way up from the bottom and gotten the most out of his players at every stop.

That's exactly what they did when they hired Ferguson. Of all his accomplishments I'd rate Aberdeen winning three Scottish titles ahead of Rangers and Celtic and taking down the European Cup Winners Cup near the top of the list.

Gonna be a tough spot for Moyes here.

I feel he's an excellent manager, but this is a jump for him. Going to be tremendous pressure on him, that he's never felt before. Sure it's nice to perform 'well' in the premier league for Everton, but at United that's really not good enough. Couple that with the past few disappointments at other cups and it's going to be tough.

And then of course, there is going to be an offseason filled with Rooney to PSG rumors, and then whom to sell/buy at a very high level.

This is going to be a big transfer season for United, they need to move some pieces (both in and out).

Either way, it was a great run for SAF. :banned: :banned:

A lot of respect for Fergie, but glad to see him go.

Moyes' biggest issue will be Europe. He might be able to do well in league play, but he'll be in over his head in the Champions League.

The ESPN Press Pass guys last night (great show, btw. espnnews around 11pm every day) they were wondering whether SAF would take on another role with United and end up sitting behind Moyes for the first year.

Twitter blowing up - Moyes to United, all but confirmed.
No pressure Davey Boy.
If SAF stays on as a director, as is being reported, I think it makes an already very difficult situation even worse. Moyes may be the right guy in that situation though - seems that he's got a bit less ego than the typical big name manager.

Meanwhile, huge game about to start at the Bridge. If Chelsea wins they're in the CL, Spurs win or a draw keeps things interesting. Torres starts today in front of OHM, with Ramires and Sideshow in the pivot, JT and Lamps on the bench. It looks as though Dembele is not available for Spurs. Good luck Arsenal fans!

:hangover:

Goodbye to the greatest.

I would hate to be whoever is following SAF. I really thought he would wait another 3 years for Pep's contract to expire at Bayern but I guess not. Moyes is a good manager and has done well with the limited means Everton have provided. I think given some financial backing he will be fine. His shortcoming may be never really having to negotiate Champions League on top of all the domestic fronts.

It's definitely going to be interesting. SAF could conjure victories out of nowhere. The '10-'11 squad was not up to snuff, but he drove them forward through strngth of character. That ability is not replaceable. They are simply going to have to spend more money now to keep up with the likes of City and Chelsea.

Fergie should have waited until after City (likely) win the FA Cup to announce this. One going away shot at overshadowing City.

I don't really keep up with their finances too much, but doesn't Man U still have debt problems from the Glazers takeover? I know they had some money to spend lately, but I assumed that was from sold players.

It's not really a problem per se. They make a boatload of money and the debt is within reason. They will never be able to compete financially with City or Chelsea though regardless of how much bigger their revenue machine is. The sugar daddy teams can simply dissolve massive losses into their owner's checkbook (or that of their companies). FFP wasn't designed to deal with this.

SAF is what made United dominant regardless of the financial disadvantage that eventually developed (they had some amazing teams prior though). I'm not talking about just the transfer market either. Their wage structure is also lower. Without SAF they will have to spend more to stay top dog and even then it likely won't be the same.

Does RVP take the pay cut and go to United without SAF? No ####### way.

So a couple weeks ago my wife's friends mention they are going to be in England and it happened to work out that they got time and tickets to the United v Swansea game. A little jealous but figuring the game would be meaningless since United would have already wrapped up the title made them going a me not a little easier to take... Plus I dont think they are actually soccer fans.

Anyway, now with all the announcements of SAF retiring and addressing the crowd after the game and the team lifting the trophy I am extremely jealous! :wall:

just had to vent.

Seems the Pellegrini to Man City rumors are getting stronger, now working their way into the more legit reporting sources. I suppose an FA Cup and 2nd in the league is not a good enough return on that GBP 200m+ wage bill. They were pretty pathetic in Europe.

He adresses the crowd every year....what's the big deal?

OH HE WON'T EVER AGIAN AND YOU'RE STUCK WITH MOYES. :lmao: :lmao:

"Stuck with Moyes." I could think of a lot worse situations--Rafa anyone? Sure, he's not SAF--yet. But he's a quality manager. A reputation for getting the most out of his players. I don't remember Everton underperforming with him at the helm. If Everton had spent like United or City I think he could have taken Everton to the next level. I'm not a United fan, so I'll snicker if they fall off a little. But I'm really interested to see how Moyes does with more money and better players at his disposal.

Congrats to Frank Lampard. Scores twice - including the winner in the 87th minute - to become Chelseas all time leading scorer with 203 goals. With the win, Chelsea also secures a spot in the Champs League next year.

Very good day for the Blues!

Aw, man..

Hard to get fired up about Moyes, but it could be a lot worse. I was hoping for the SO, but I can see why they didn't take him on with all the drama he brings. Too much of a culture change. Moyes certainly seems to fit the culture SAF has put in place, but I'm just worried that he's going to get swallowed up by the job. We'll see...
