These kinds of comments always make me feel like I'm "not big enough of a fan". Were you watching Watford games last year or something? Bellerin has made 1 senior appearance (League Cup) for Arsenal and a small handful of preseason appearances. I can't actually remember seeing him play, though I know I watched some of the games he played in.
I hope you're right. Wikipedia says he broke Walcott's 40m speed time, making him the fastest player in Arsenal history.

I said at the time he wasn't tested much defensively but it was a good showing for sure. He's a blue chip prospect. Whether he can make it for Arsenal or another top PL club remains to be seen but to me he's the sort of guy you give a chance to in this situation.These kinds of comments always make me feel like I'm "not big enough of a fan". So who would everyone prefer be the 'Voice of soccer' in the US?
From the Guardian article some are partial to JP Dellacamera. I think Taylor Twellman does a good job as well. I'm sure by 2018 Landon will be more involved as well, probably as a studio host similar to Lalas.

I've always like Kyle Martino. Also like Brian Dunseth. Twellman is ok and does offer decent "pro" info. LD needs to take how-to-talk-like-a-new-anchor lessons; his surfer monotone drawl is painful to listen to for an extended period.
Gotta say- and most people found him ridiculous (so much so that I haven't seen him in a while)- but I always loved Chris Sullivan. Thought he brought a great sense of the ins and outs of the game from a (albeit, low-level) professional level. Found him saying things about the specifics of the match in the moment that I was wondering about same thing. Plus, spanglish.
It's taken him 20 years, but JP is getting much better as a play-by-play guy... which brings him up to *meh*-level.
And I'm not sold by Arlo White. I frequently hear him say things that tell me he doesn't really know the game, which I find distracting. But at least he does a good job deferring and often asking his color guys about a lot those things.
Hopefully we'll get a pbp guy who is distinctly US and doesn't have to mimic British announcers. I don't know this Strong guy... good?

The color guy is almost always going to be a player and I think Tim Howard has shown enough that he is going to be high on the list once he retires. If he does not make the 2018 squad I think he will be part of one of the Fox teams.
I have posted numerous times on Strong. He is young and solid. I don't think he is even 30 yet and I think he is the best American born lead announcer we have ever had (yes, I know that is not saying much).
I am surprised you don't know Strong. He has called nearly every MLS game for the last 2 years on NBCSN. If you are interested in learning more, KickTV put together a nice interview with Strong in early 2013:
It will be interesting to see who Fox hires for MLS next season, I hope it is Strong but with Fox, who knows what they will do.

Forgot about Timmy. Yeah- he's been really good... great combo of insight, game-awareness, and just interesting/funny. That last one is Dunseth's downfall, IMO.
I don't really listen to 95% of announcing when I'm watching games- especially pbp. Some of it's that I'm watching most games these days on DVR, and often double-time it through them. Some of it is that I don't care about 99% of what they're saying... so

I hope with the new TV contract starting next year that US Soccer was able to get either Fox or ESPN to broadcast the Open Cup final. Having it stuck on Gol TV these past few years is so awful. This would have been a fun game to watch tonight.

Leverkusen could be the team to watch today according to my Bundesliga expert friend via email - new manager Roger Schmidt is considered the new Klopp, playing a high-pressure / high tempo game with some exciting young talent in Calhanoglu, Julian Brandt, Drmic and Tin Jedvaj (on loan from Juve.)
Champions League talk....
Bayern Leverkusen I think beats Monaco today. French side really struggling to find their form, rightfully so after losing James and Falcao. I think Bayern Leverkusen was playing some of the best soccer in Germany before int'l break, and first game out they were still great in the attack/possesion. Unfortunately they gave away a few breakaway chances which Bremen cashed in on. I think they'll fix that up, and win here fairly comfortably. Away wins really help your confidence/group chances.
Liverpool has a potential giant killer coming to town. Bulgarians already took care of the likes of PSV last November, drew LAzio and played Valencia very tight.
They would love nothing more than to get a result at Anfield and should not hold anything back. Unfortunately their first choice gk is out, as is their backup. and they've signed some guy off the street so to speak. Their CB is out, and two other starting defenders are strong doubts. Liverpool coming off a poor result vs. AV, I think Rodgers tweaks formation a bit, and well, this could be ugly. I think Liverpool name their score, and in group play where gd can count, I think 3-0, 4-0 could be likely.
Juve should smash Malmo, not really a contest worth mentioning, I think Malmo was quite fortunate to make CL Group play and will bow out quickly.
I think Real Madrid/Basel may be the most entertaining to watch if you like goals (I do). Basel a very attacking team and Real loves the counter. I don't think Basel has a chance to win, but I think they may put a bit of a scare in RM if they are not prepared. Basel went into OT a few years back and ####ed United up, back when United was decent.
The match of the day though will be Arsenal/Dortmund.
Arsenal missing Debuchy and Monreal is not going to help things, and Dortmund at home is fantastic. But Dortmund missing quite a few key players too (Reus, Hummels, Gundogan to name a few). I expect Arsenal to give the Germans all kinds of trouble tbh. I watched last Dortmund game and they looked just awesome. Kagawa, Ramos, always dangerous. Mkitharyin too. Jury still out to me on this game, not sure of it.

Good work guru - just noting, Leverkusen is in the north, near Cologne. "Bayer" - think aspirin, not Bayern, which is the state of Bavaria in southern Germany.

When I first lived in Germany in the mid 80's, the German pharma giant Bayer sponsored two clubs - the favored Leverkusen and the red-headed step-child Bayer Uerdigan. Uerdigan made an improbable run in the Cup Winners Cup that year, with one of my favorite German nationals Mattias Herget playing Libero, eventually getting knocked out by Atletico Madrid in the semis. Bayer pulled its support sometime in the 90's, and the club promptly sank to the German regional league - 4th or 5th division. A story I like to keep in mind when my German friends start prattling on about financial stability in the Bundesliga.

There was a guy in the Bundesliga during the Soccer made in Germany days (maybe late 70s) whose name was something like: Franz Zimmerman... probably played in the MF and had a howitzer (sorry... um... panzer tank?) of a shot. Somewhat regularly hit 35-40 yard salvos on goal, scoring the occasional holy-####! goal. He was probably my first soccer-crush of fandom. I'm not winning the internet googling that name, so I'm hoping somebody else remembers the guy... I'd love to see video of some of those goals.

Jedvaj is actually on loan from Roma...which looks like might have been a mistake. He's really played well for Leverkusen. Still just a teenager, he might not want to return with the promise of first team football...
