Costa has shown some really good skill in the last few minutes. More than just a brute with a knack for poaching. Showed some nice ball skills before passing into Hazard for a shot on goal. And did really well to control Fabergas's long ball with his chest and stil have enough time to lob over the goalkeeper.

Absolutely loving this team thus far this year.

Saints upset at Tottenham!

I jest, Spurs dominated midfield play. I'd read that Poch had dialed back the old Southampton high press because he didn't have the lineup for it but he turned it on today and Ericksen, Lamela and Rose just abused Tadic (which is worrisome) and Davis in the middle and Pelle hardly had a touch. This one could have been worse than 1-0.

Frustrating result.

Arsenal controlled most of that match and until about 70' were generating more chances. They were denied a clear early red on Cahill and a clear penalty on a Fabregas hand ball in the box.

That said, there was no excuse for giving up either goal - you can't let Hazard have space/time to build up pace like he did, and the second goal was just naive by the two center backs.

i have no idea how Welbeck avoided a red there. That was a horrific tackle.
Agreed, he should have been sent off... but then so should Cahill whose tackle was actually worse early in the 1st half.

Atkinson had a horrible game; missed calls for both sides but it hurt Arsenal more.

They're better than the team that won the last CL by a good stretch, IMO.

Quite possibly. Only thing missing from this squad is the presence of an in-form Drogba who was able to create his own shots from the center forward position. Costa will never be that player (not that he needs to mind you) to lift a team on his own. Still, this team is far more balanced and fluid in attack with a defense that is just as stout as the the 2010 team.

So what's up with Everton? QPR comes back and wins here and Everton's in the drop zone.

Pretty unlucky thus far. Defense hasnt been great. But schedule hasnt done them any favors - already played Arsneal, Chelsea, Liverpool and United in the first seven matches.

Juve-Roma out of control. Two penalties awarded in the first 30 minutes. Both questionable (though the second was a clear tackle just away from the action)

And they are not deep enough to get through Europa without having to play a few starting xi mid-week - that will wear on them as the season progresses.

Not sure we watched the same match. They had their first shot on goal in the 90th minute.
I fell asleep around the 65th minute or so. You know very well Arsenal had the better of the ball, and not just meaningless possession. They just didn' have the final ball or shot, which is their M.O. They really missed Ramsey today. Cazorla, Wilshire, and Ozil all had bad games.

Also, what's up with Walcott? Everything I read said he was suppose to return mid September.

Maybe you should have started him instead of Rooney.... :coffee:

Everton deserved a point but thankfully De Gea came up big. United's defense still very average but looks much better than earlier in the season. McNairs actually done really well - Rojo hasn't outplayed him. RvP has not been impressive - I would consider letting Rooney partner with Falcao some and give Mata more games. One thing for sure is the new players in the side need better fitness. Blind and Falcao faded the last 30 and ADM lost a little. Rafael has played really well - I think Scooby pointed it out but United have no backup for him - Smalling isn't the answer especially when injured. I guess Valencia could slot in but he makes me nervous. Good 3 pts though - have to be happy after the start to the season.
I thought Mata was useless today. Dispossessed easily and wasted opportunities in the box. Outside of his excellent touch on Di Maria's goal, he shouldn't have been out there.

I agree with Native here- unlucky and unfortunate defending (not bad- entirely). They've moved the ball forward as well as Liverpool or Spurs, IMO, but aren't getting the results. We'll see how they do against hte rest of the league- they can't keep dropping points against teams that are supposed to be behind them.

And yeah- Europa could be a real problem... if they survive.

Kind of agree. Although I do think Chelsea dictated things- even if it allowed decent possession to Arsenal...that's both team's M.O.s, and Chelsea always seemed the more likely to break through to me. I was actually impressed with both teams' shape, but thought the players on the field for blue were getting it done better for most of the game.

Wilshire floated in and out of playing well... but yeah, Cazorla and Ozil were typically MIA while supposedly playing- and Welbeck disappeared too much of the game too (aside from that nasty two footed tackle). Really liking Alexis- and agree that a Ramsey or anybody else would have helped Arsenal today... they needed somebody with more ability and fire than what Cazozil bring.

For me, the assist alone means he wasn't useless but I get your point. I think Mata is a player that needs games to be effective. I don't see him as a super-sub that will change games. If anything that would be Rooney. I'm just saying if LVG rotates Rooney, Mata, Falcao and RVP then it could benefit all of them.
