Jens Keller fired and Di Matteo in at Schalke. This really broke quite well for Robbie - had a massive salary from Chelsea which I think expired this past summer, lands on his feet at a good club with a strong base and great stadium. Plus, he's an expert at beating Bayern, so should do well in the Bundesliga.

Competiton at the league level is a good thing.

With Dortmund sitting on 7 points from 7 games, competition in the Bundesliga is on life support.

Ozil out 10-12 weeks for Arsenal.

I believe that's actually a opportunity to try some different things tactically, but Arsene just isn't that type of manager.
It's almost funny how Giroud, Debuchy, and Ozil should all get healthy around the beginning of January just in time for Wenger to justify not bringing anyone else in.

Kim Kallstrom likely available for a January loan.

:wall: for Ozil's injury, and :wall: for your comment which is pretty dead on. If this team just got a good DM they'd look pretty formidable (when healthy of course).

But, but, but... Pepe le Flamini?

I'm holding out hope for a Khedira transfer in January but then again I haven't had decades of transfer day heartbreak and disappointment like most Arsenal fans.

Khedira's not a DM and his injury history worries me, but I'd take him at this point. I'm still hoping for Carvalho (who can also play CB) though.

Not a fan of the international break... and probably won't be until ol' owl face is gone... :kicksrock:
I looked through the entire Euro group stage qualification schedule and did not see a single interesting game. The only game with some interest this break is Brazil - Argentina (the friendly that's never friendly) on Saturday morning, but I don't think that's going to be televised in the US. I might watch a bit of Donovan's farewell game, but am finding it hard to get up for that one.

Argentina-Brazil is live on Bein.

Sweden-Russia is a good one as is France-Portugal.

I think I still have World Cup hangover though, and am not interested in watching any National team play except ours.

Don't think of it as Donovan's farewell game if that doesn't appeal to you. He is only going to play 30mins. The game is exciting because it will have a lot of youth and is against a quality opponent.

All of that appeals to me.

What time is the game?

What time is the game?
4pm Best Coast time on Friday. ESPN or ESPN2.

Another comparison table: http://i.imgur.com/iwO92CZ.png

This one looks at comparative results/matches to last year, and projects the points total. I thought it was interesting that ManC still looks to retain the title in this one.
I love looking at stuff like this but it's a little misleading. They apparently are substituting the bottom 3 from last year with the promoted sides. United is -2 for the 4 true comparative games and -5 for the other 3. Definitely not great for them.

Dortmund's 13th in the table. There are a few other teams closer.
Code:
1 Bayern 172 Hoffenheim 133 Gladbach 134 Leverkusen 125 Frankfurt 126 Mainz 117 Wolfsburg 11

Competition in the league is good.....................................
especially for 2nd place.
Its probably a good time to be a mid-to-upper table team with no competition for Bayern - 3 CL spots up for grabs with several teams in play.
I do kind of worry for Fox's Bundesliga coverage next season, though. I don't mind a top heavy league. I think it's good to have great teams that fans can latch on to, but I do think you need more than one. And Dortmund looked to be the only team capable of mounting a title challenge to Bayern in multiple years straight (as opposed to teams like Wolfsburg that flash for a year and then go away). I don't see Leverkusen or Gladbach playing themselves into that type of position, which means that Fox isn't going to be able to market a Classico or even something as compelling as the Manchester Derby.

Is fox planning an NBC-like effort of showing every game, or simply game-of-the-week type programming? Certainly showing Bayern, with all of its stars, will draw ratings, even if it does not expand the fan-base.

Also - not sure what fox paid for the rights - but if that is extra money in the kitty for teams like Dortmund they may raid Serie A or La Liga for some players.

ETA - and Dortmund needs to learn to either sign their players to new contracts or sell them on to Bayern instead of letting them leave for free.

I worry more because the only sport Fox has really done well is NFL football (even their college football broadcasts leave something to be desired), but that may just be me.

They haven't said, but you'd expect them to have games on FoxSports1, FoxSports2, and their soccer channel. They also have that pay soccer streaming app that I'm sure will have all the games.

Do they list odds on winning a treble? Ribery, Schweinsteiger and Thiago have all been injured much of the season so far, and all three should be back after the break. Alonso is reportedly taking the league by storm. He already holds all-time Bundesliga records for most successful passes and most touches in a game (196/206 against Cologne) and is averaging 19 throughballs/long passes per game (Opta on twitter). The league could be wrapped up by Christmas. Champions League final is in Berlin.

All fans in Munich should be thankful for Xabi's wandering ****, I guess. I'm still kind of sick over how easily Bayern got him.

10m Eur - could be the best value of the summer.

Who are you people and what did you do with the regular posters?

Bundesliga being discussed in here.

As I've said before, I do want to see some competition in the league. I don't like that it is dominated by one team simply because it ruins it for fans of the other clubs and people trying to get interested in the league. But, if it is going to happen, I'm glad it's my team.

I guess I'm a Bundesliga honk because I pull for all of the German clubs playing in European competitions.

We'll talk more Bundesliga when its easier to see more Bundesliga. I think it's really as simple as that. UCL is really the only shot I get to watch German teams. I don't watch much Serie A or La Liga either. Not because I think the EPL is better, but because watching a standard definition feed is difficult for me. It literally makes my head hurt to focus. I will admit that even in European competition, I don't enjoy watching Pep's Bayern the way I enjoyed watching Heynckes' Bayern. But that's just a personal preference. That last CL winning team was my platonic ideal of "German" football. Technical enough to control possession, but brutally efficient when they chose to play direct.

No (I use bookiesindex.bestbetting.com to check out odds by the way. 20+ books, almost any sport you can imagine), but they're small favorites against the field in the DFB Pokal (Unibet has -105), and Bayern are more or less tied with RM at around +400 to win the CL.

So probably around 10% or so? Just eyeballing.

Sounds like Real Madrid.

Effective end-around strategy to avoid the Bundesliga anti-marketing rules by the energy drink company. "RasenBallSport Leipzig" is the only club I've ever seen that uses the "grass ball sport" prefix.

I'm not sure what Fox is planning, but I am sure they will screw it up. They aren't going to bump any college or NFL shows. I'm afraid most matches will end up on Fox Sports 2 and Fox Soccer Plus, neither of which is available in HD for me.

My love of Real's counter is already established. I think they do that better than any team I've ever seen.

But I think that Bayern team could even play a bit of Route 1 through Muller and Gomez (which definitely unsetteled Barca). Real doesn't really have that club in the bag. I like Benzema's hold-up play, but he's not that physical in the box.
