I have to say, as pathetic as Liverpool's season has started out, I think 5th place is pretty good. And it's not as if it's been a cakewalk schedule. @ManCity,@Tott,Southampton,Everton

APLT

Chelsea +4

Man City -3

Liverpool -5

Spurs -7

Arsenal -9

Everton -11

Man Utd -12

and a juicy United/Chelsea game next weekend

Bale's apparently out for RM's match against Liverpool in the CL and El Clasico with a hip injury.
I'd think anyone with even a little knock will be out for the midweek game the week of the Classico. Wouldn't be surprised to see Madrid keep it in 2nd gear or so.
Yeah I would think that RM is going to need at least a point on Saturday to have a reasonable shot at running down Barcelona. 7 points is a pretty big gap when the winner's been easily clearing 90 in recent year.

And Liverpool's not really scaring anyone these days.

Do their own fans count?

I love how they try to get into specifics about how the success of the program works. She's reasonably hot and able to speak in complete sentences with an English accent. That's pretty much the whole story.
Lowe is very sharp and asks intelligent questions but I think the show benefits from NBC's investment and commitment. They have better technology to show and analyze highlights than the FSC crew ever did. They also have a larger post-match window than their predecessors. I'm sure the pre-game is outstanding too but I have no idea what goes on at 4AM on Saturday mornings.

I just had a crazy soccer filled few days.

Friday: Tijuana Xolos vs Ronaldinho. I love the Xolos stadium. Roman colosseum meets, well, Tijuana. Put some money on the game at the outside casino as per the norm. Stupid crazy local line on the home team, but I like having action on the home team. Got in the stadium early to watch Ronaldinho warm up, living legend and all. Pretty cool to see him go to work. They play him as a false 9. He never back tracks past the half line and rarely goes into the box. Just gets the ball and distributes. He did make a sneaky run into the box to start the 2nd half and head home a standing sitter giving his Queretaro a 1-0 lead over the home team. We all thought we were sunk. Joe Corona and Greg Garza started on the bench due to their international break. The starting LB was actually playing very well, so I was worried about not only Garza getting in the game, but getting his auto start back. I don't think it is very common to see a LB substation, but it happened. Garza came on with Corona in the 60th and Garza made an immediate difference. Played up and down the flank on both sides of the ball and put in some killer passes. Corona came in as well, but it didn't work out as nicely for him. He broke his foot about 15 minutes or so in and will miss the rest of the season. Xolos tied the game 1 minute after the USA Super Subs came on with a free kick that would have made Ronaldinho proud, and the crowd was back into the game. Tangent (actually these are all tangents, aren't they?): The crowd was definitely excited about 'Dinho. It was amazing to see how many straight up kids were obsessed with him. I feel like i was young when I watched him play. There is no way these kids saw him when he was the greatest player in the world. How are they so in love with him? The kid next to me had a homemade shirt with his name and numbered scribbled on. Another guy stormed the field after the game to get his shirt singed. He got his shirt signed, but he also got his ### kicked by security for his efforts. He seemed to be happy with the trade off though as he waived his signed shirt in the air while being escorted off. Where was I…. Oh yeah, the game. Back and forth. Really good game. Heated battles. 90th comes around and we get the feeling like in all Xolos games that they will find a way to blow the point. Then, it happened, after losing many times at the death, my Tijuana Xolos steal opts on a Benedetto header. We go nuts. It is going to be a party in Tijuana for a change! Wait….

Saturday: Turns out their is a National Indoor Soccer team thingy and our USMIDNT is matched up against our hated Mexico a couple miles from my house at the old home of the San Diego Clippers. Our chapter of the Outlaws is pimping the game, so I decide to check it out and party with them in the stands. It was one of the worst sporting events I have ever been to. Do you like soccer, but hate the nonstop action? Do you wish soccer has timeouts? Does 4 periods of soccer interest you? Do you believe that the more rules and stoppages the better? Then you'll love International Indoor Soccer! The ####### thing took 3 hours. As long as an NFL game. The crowd didn't know the rules, the refs didn't know the rules, the PA didn't know the rules. They stopped every couple minutes to try and figure out if they knew what they were doing. Spoiler alert: They didn't. Also, the team celebrated all 30+ goals like they were game tournament game winners, storming the field and every thing. Seemed like if there was any little way to find a moment to delay the actual playing of soccer, these guys found it. The silver lining of the game was that we had some fun making up songs. This guy right behind me was completely trashed. He just kept yelling "Rip it!" whenever we had the ball. Sometimes repeating it continuously. At one point he yelled "Rip It! RipIt! HAVE A ####### RIP!! ### #### IT!" So I turned i put that to a melody and started singing it. He ####### loved it. We scored right away when we sand it and he went nuts. He told me it was the best chant he's heard. lol. He had no idea I was just repeating his words. I also came up with one for when the keeper made a save. I like it, but it got weird to sing about the keeper being a wall after he had already let in 10 goals. Got even harder when he had let in 15. So that game sucked. I will not be back to indoor soccer any time soon.

Sunday: Donovan's last game regular season home game! Local soccer bar chartered a bus. I filled up a bunch of growlers for the ride up. we got some tailgating in as well. A little too much as we missed the first couple minutes of the match. I meant to get in early for any festivities, but beer happened. My son of a ##### buddy got a bunch of Olde English cans, and I succumbed to the peer pressure. As the 5 of us were walking around drinking the OE cans a black guy walking at us started cracking up. He stopped us and said he had never seen so many white dudes drinking OE. My protest that I was half South American fell on deaf ears. We were the funniest things he'd ever seen and he wanted a picture of us all drinking OE because his friends wouldn't believe him. We obliged. The game itself, as noted in here, was a good one. The crowd really showed up too. I think Seattle brings that out in the local supporters. I think they want to show them they aren't the only ones who know how to support a team. I went to a Galaxy game a couple months ago and it wasn't anything close to this. Great game, and cool to see Dempsey vs. Donovan. It was heart breaking to see them blow a two goal lead. Bus ride back was more beer and making up ####ty chants about each other. Good times.

Monday: Sleep away as much of the hangover as I could and barely made it to my pickup game. Actually played very well :bowtie:

TL:DR SOCCER!SOCCER!SOCCER!

Awesome writeup Sebo.

I have a bunch of soccer friends in LA / SD and I have to think that the culture there is growing (although it has a great base). The fact that you can head down to TJ to watch a whole different league is pretty dope too.

great stuff- writeup and myriad of soccer trips make me envious... not so much the indoor debacle.

but RIP IT might be my new catch-phrase... #######

Another empty stadium in Moscow today I believe. City need the three points badly, and probably need Bayern to win at Roma to stay in the running to advance. Should be a great atmosphere at Stadio Olympico. That's probably the one I'll be watching tonight. Also recording CFC v Maribor to hopefully get a look at some of the youngsters, although with Mourniho I wouldn't expect much rotation from the weekend.

It's been kind of neat to hear all the players barking. Kompany never shuts up.

Kind of labored start for City, but awful positioning from the right back for CSKA led to the first goal and City have looked good since. 2-0 at the half and they should have had a penalty and probably have converted at least one other chance (either Zabaleta's volley or Kun at the stroke of half time where he was an inch short).

posted it uptrhead... I love this.

Raul about to sign with the NY Cosmos.

I still haven't been out to see them play... even though I would french kiss Senna. Raul should have a lot of fun playing on those turf-grass fields.

It is the first sellout at the Stadio since 2004, I believe...something like 71,000 Roma-5,000 Bayern. The Curva Sud will be insane, especially with Benatia returning to Rome. They will show no mercy.

Sunderland players offering fans a refund for the 8-0 embarrassment.

Sunderland's shell-shocked players have offered to refund the cost of supporters' tickets for their 8-0 Premier League humiliation at Southampton.

More than 2,500 fans who made the long trip to the south coast on Saturday will be able to claim back the 24 pound cost of admission, or have the sum donated to city-based children's hospice Grace House instead.

Skipper John O'Shea said: "We win and lose as a team, players, staff and fans. However we wanted to acknowledge and thank the supporters who travelled such a long way to give us their backing and despite everything, stayed with us until the final whistle.''

Keeper Vito Mannone suggested the idea immediately after the horror show, which saw him picking the ball out of his net on eight occasions -- with his own teammates responsible for two of the goals.

The offer will cost the players in excess of 60,000 pounds.
Pretty classy move imo.

it's official.

Senna and Raul playing for the Cosmos.

I don't get the appeal for a late 30s former superstar to do this... but what the hay- has to be better than Qatar.

eta: I see that he's going to coach Cosmos' upcoming youth team.

Petr Cech will be cup tied today if the Chelsea lineup on ESPN is correct, which is somewhat surprising. Kurt Zouma also getting a rare start for CFC, as is Filipe Luis. Luis is a surprise as Azpilicueta will start a a 3 game suspension this weekend for the direct red he got against C.Palace.
