I really liked how committed both teams were to getting 3-5 guys forward all game... crappy defense or no. guys were running all over the place.
Think this will be the case Saturday?...Serie A is the bizzaro "The MLS"...lol...INTERNAZIONALE IN SERIE B!

Obafemi Martins has been recalled to Nigeria for the upcoming WQiers. I have to think some of that enormous travel might impact some of the MLS playoff games for Seattle.

As a side note, it continues to be cool watching players come to MLS and get recalled to their national teams. That was always seen as a huge negative in terms of coming to MLS.

If MLS can continue to offer competitive salaries and give players the chance to regain or stay with their national teams, we could see the flow of players increase into MLS in the coming decade (some of this will occur naturally as Miami, Atlanta, LA and Minnesota all launch).

I'm convinced everything bad that has happened to Leeds is punishment from God for switching from one of the greatest sports logos ever to their current monstrosity.

you know how I know you're not a fully functioning human being?
...when I sit on the toilet, and my merda is azzuri/negra...au contraire, mon fraire...my functions as a human being seem quite normal...all things being relative...MERDA NERA/AZZURI...

I don't know if KC is going to make it out of Portland alive. And I don't mean losing the game, I mean they might all just literally die on the field here.

Krisztian Németh sounds like the kind of name you'd get if you ran the New York City phone book through a shredder and tried to tape the pieces back together.

That nemeth cat is a bit lucky not to have gotten the boot when he picked up his yellow. Took a guy down rugby atyle and then bored the ball into his gave while down.

They also wore the infamous smiley badge for a few years but in their defense, it was the 1970s.
That is one of my all time favorite things in the history of things.

For those that missed it...

KC came back from 1-0 down to go up 2-1 late, and Portland tied it up pretty much at the death. PKs went through the entire team, with combinations of misses and amazing saves (Besler in particular tried to do a clever little dink down the middle and donked it high over the crossbar). finally came down to the GKs. and to back up even further- KCs starting GK looked to have been pulled by his trainer after a Portland player left a boot in on a through ball much earlier in the 2nd half. had a bruised/scraped cheek, but appeared to be lobbying to stay in (it was in Balboa spanish, so no idea what was being said). backup GK did admirably vs the PKs, but had his PK saved to ultimately lose the game.

That was amazing entertainment in the Portland KC game. Just so many talking points. That is a game every fan in the stadium will remember forever.

Montreal continues to look so good. Piatti and Drogba are so hard to handle. I think it is going to be NY vs Montreal in the conference finals.

TFC's first time in the playoffs and it's not even on American TV in English....
Yes and no.

As part of the new tv deal, Univision controlled the national rights for all the playin games.

But all you need to do is press the SAP button to get the English broadcast when watching on Unimas/UDN

didn't work for me.
I have read that on some cable system it works on UDN instead of Unimas. Which channel were you watching?

I've seen bupkis of Montreal... other than their run in the CCL during preseason. Piatti was an absolute monster at that point, singlehandedly tearing down teams. IIRC, they had a decent run- mostly because of him.

Piatti and a healthy, willing and able Drogba firing on all cylinders is scary.

btw- I was impressed with KC's play last night. hostile environment (great to see!), lots of chippiness and energy coming at them, but they did a great job holding their shape and playing their game. What should have been the gamewinner was a fantastically taken goal by the Nerbert/nemeth/nomath whatever guy. Portland seemed more of the collectively headless chicken on the night, with more gaps on the field and more mistakes individually... but congrats to them and their fans for moving on.

did I see that they were playing Vancouver next? another derby... nice. what are the whitecaps fans like? I'm hoping it's just as loud and involved.

oh.. I did notice that the Portland fans appeared to not really get the flow of the game... I could be reading into it a bit, but their collective response to things didn't match what I saw happening on the field (even taking homerism aside). felt like they were a fantastic, involved but naive group.

no idea. the first one I found that had the game.

and we've come a long ways, but NYC's local 24hour news channel, NY1, didn't even register that the RBs won the supporter's shield. granted, the Mets were dominating local news and especially sports at that point, but yet they show short clips of freaking basketball and hockey games that mean absolutely #### all.

and more related news...

a HS kid here in NYC died this week after a collision with a GK during a game. lacerated his liver and died at home from internal bleeding.

just a horrible, freak accident. I can't honestly remember ever hearing this kind of thing before- heart issues... maybe brain trauma- but internal bleeding? like something that happens in a car crash, IMO. just terrible.

Is that bracketed, or reseeded after the round?

bracketed based on conference, but then seeded based on record

I meant to mention that I believe all games from here on out will be on either Fox Sports or ESPN(s).

Because of the international break, there will be a long break after this 2 leg matchup is complete

Melia has to be SO PISSED the trainer made him come out right about now.
Oh. Oh god. Someone get this man into witness protection immediately.
Post game freakout? What happened?
Nothing that they showed. I just know that if my trainer forced me out of a playoff game even though I thought I could continue, and then my backup missed a kick to seal the win for the other team, I would be going full-on MOP in the locker room.

ah... maybe we'll get something juicy today.

the backup did makes some nice saves though... espcially that first one, IMO.
