Love Phil jones just chilling in the stands.
I'm not sure anybody should be surprised by where United are - too many average players on the roster:

Jones, Darmian, Fellaini, Carrick, Young, Lindgard, Blind, Jackson
I don't think Carrick is an average player. His role isn't exciting, but he was always a key part of their past success.
I would have agreed 4 years ago. He barely plays and will be 35 soon. He's average now.

aside from the goal, Rooney was dreadful today. I kept waiting for his runs which mostly didn't happen, and then when they happened AND he got the ball- looked like a Jozy clone.

liverpool... yeah- agree... nobody looked like they were going to score for that team, even if they played a touch "better" than United IMO. time to bring back the pony tail? or el nino? or christo? and Lucas- every time I see him over the years, I think of Scholes in his last year or two... minus any of the positive things Scholes had in his last year or two. basically a card waiting to happen.

I agree somewhat on this list. But a couple of them should be starting and a couple are good squad/rotational players and have value. Problem is the injuries mean they are starting.

Jones cant play more then 20 mins a month without getting hurt. Fellaini needs to be given away. He is useless. As for the rest...

Carrick is the only holding MF that seems to pass forward. Put him next to Schneiderlin and that is pretty good even at 35.

Darmian is a solid RB but they keep swapping him around to left. Let him play RB so the defense gets continuity.

Young is a good squad player. Versatile and good to have. Blind too. Jackson and lingard are young and could grow.

They need a Center Back so Blind can be moved around more as cover. Need Shaw and/or Rojo to come back so Young isnt in the defense. although Blind at LB isnt bad with a real CB in there.

Schneiderlin needs to be in there every game. Rotate Carrick and Schweini

They have talent and can challenge the top four. But LVG's subbing baffles me and his constant use of the tree is asinine.

Couldnt believe Lucas wasnt booked after heading Fellaini, getting into a scuffle with Fellaini and then a hard foul on Herrera all inside 15 mins. Fellaini probably should have been booked too at some point. Dont like to wish injuries but wanted the Docs to say fellaini had to come out after Lucas got him.

Rooney cant outrun anyone any longer. Its been 3 years since he could run in behind. And neither he nor fellaini would attack the crosses coming in. Easy clearances for the defense. If Pool had any goal scorers they win going away. De Gea once again was the man. In 2 games this season, United have 4 shots on target and 4 goals. (I guess a header off the bar is not considered on target).

good point about balls in the air- Sakho was a machine out there. at a certain point he figured out he was going to win every single ball in the air and he just let the beast out.

what really surprised me about Rooney was his poor touch and slow decision making.

nothing surprises me about Fellaini any more, lease of all his inability to win a head ball in the middle of the park. he does seem to do better when he's attacking a cross in front of goal.

Sadly what you saw out of Rooney yesterday was better then most of his season. He is scared to shoot with his left, has no speed or first touch, doesnt seem to know what to do when he does get on the ball....

The only thing Fellaini does well is a chest trap, usually followed by a bad touch and a foul. He cant win headers over anyone despite being taller then them all. He might win 1 on the attack and 1 in defense in a game but usually thats after 10 chances. He did win one this game and hit it off the bar, and vs Newcastle he had one that lead to the United PK and one defensively that went for an assist to a Newcastle goal. Most of Liverpool's attacks were because he was planted in the middle of the park and his man ran through or when he did get back to the def was because his man ran by him.

Milan's attendance at 80,000-seat San Siro in Serie A tonight (28,374) was lower than Derby's yesterday in the Championship (32,895).

========================================================

I think within ten years, MLS will surpass Serie A in average attendance. Serie A is averaging 22,749 this season.

Serie A attendance has been on a steady decline since the mid 90's. Milan used to help prop the league up but they have dropped way down.

I think some of the drop in Serie A can be attributed also to the scandals across the league. In a sport rife with corruption, Italy might stand alone a top Europe's corruption ladder.

Reports say that Atlético rejected a 30m€ bid for Jackson Martinez that came from Spurs. Atleti paid 35m€ for him over the summer, but he's generally sucked at putting the ball in the back of the net this year.

If the transfer ban wasn't looming, I think they would have taken it. However, that in conjunction with Atleti being well placed in 3 competitions means that he's not going anywhere for a loss right now.

Question is what happens when Chelsea offers a dump truck of money for Griezmann.

Roma officially releases Cole. Should be in LA very soon. I have no idea what LA is doing this winter but it should be interesting to see how all these rumored changes work out.

Tottenham making a move for Alexander Pato. Anyone tell me anything about this guy?
wow... he's only 26. seems like he's been around forever.

decent, chicarito type of player. had a good run with Brazil youth and senior national team, but somehow fell of the table. Played for that ####ty Milan team. runs the channels well and works hard. mostly, he's the guy that went waaaaay overboard with the cupped hands making the heart shape after scoring.
He's been back in brazil for the last few years and has, allegedly, been a bit of a locker room problem for his club which forced them to loan him out to their rivals for a financial loss. Prior to that loan, fans were fed up with the team and stormed the stadium looking for players to assult, Pato was apparently near the top of their list - he has not played for Cornthians since.
This is more likely to be an agent-driven story.

Spurs are definitely in the market for a back-up striker in January - but they spent all last season getting rid of bad attitudes. Seems unlikely that they want to disrupt a fantastic squad atmosphere right now.
Apparently the rumors are now hot and heavy that Chelsea will be signing Pato.... my friends in Brazil seem to think that it will happen this week.

BOOOOO!

Sounds like my Revs finally realized the off season was starting. Dear god do they move like tectonic plates over in Foxboro when it comes to signing players. And in classic Revolution fashion, even when they have news, they really have no news since they can't even name the player.

I assume pre contract below refers to someone who will come to the team in the summer on a free transfer.

Brian Bilello
@RevsPrezCompleted a DP signing this week. Pre-contract, should be able to share more details in the next few weeks. More signings still to come.

He doesn't seem to have been lighting up Brazil since washing out at Milan. About 1 goal in 3 matches with Corinthians and Sao Paolo.

I *think* I have Copa tix for Chicago. The text from my friend is very vague, but seems to confirm he got the tix yesterday through a presale for Bears season ticket holders. He's got no idea what a big deal it is, so isn't giving it the proper level of detail I need this morning. Tickets were apparently sold in "Venue Pass" packs covering all 4 games, so I have 4 tickets each for the 3 v 4 in Mexico's group, a USA game, an Argentina game and a semi-final. He's not yet told me the cost, but I'm sure it will be way beyond my budget.
