Are all nine on that that list known?
http://www.espnfc.us/blog/transfer-talk/79/post/2919741/bastian-schweinsteiger-leads-list-of-nine-headed-for-man-united-exit

" Mourinho wants to work with a squad of 24 players next season, and he has wasted no time telling Adnan Januzaj, Andreas Pereira, James Wilson, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Will Keane, Paddy McNair and Tyler Blackett they are not in his immediate plans and are available for loan. "

I kind of question Fosu-Mensah and Pereira, the rest no issue.

Look, Mourinho has one job.  He is being tasked with getting United back to the top of the EPL and competing in the CL again.  His time at United will probably be 2-3 years.  So yeah, he's not going to worry about the kids.

Will he succeed?  I have no idea.  Will United fans be happy with 2nd or 3rd place and a decent showing in the CL? (round of 16, round of 8)?

Or are they expecting him to win the league and win the CL?  If so, that's a tall ask with the league as it currently is.  It seems like the best you can do is to build a team that can compete for the title and do your best to win it.  Actually expecting your team to win the title is ridiculously high expectations in the EPL, and I don't know that Mourinho will deliver that or not.

Yes.  Short answer..  ManU fans certainly expect to win the league year in and year out and at minumum do well in the CL. For good reason...this is a side that's won 13 of the last 24 EPL titles.  Whether that expectation is realistic with how the money in the EPL and CL is distributed these day is another matter, but the expectation of championships is certainly there.

Thats ok, Liverpool fans still expect to win the league also...

The history probably indeed does raise expectations but from my limited years of observation, I think the days of buying a Prem title are over. While upper level financial resources are still important (the Leicester Miracle notwithstanding), the club that wins it will probably do so based more on a combination of brains, balls and luck than just cash. And maybe luck most of all.

They had an impressive run.  It's tough adjusting expectations.  There's simply zero chance that they can win 13 of the next 24 titles.  So from a certain perspective, they are on the downside.  There's simply too much money in the league now.  Yeah, they can spend like mad, but so can everyone else.

So the fans will perpetually be a bit disappointed as they consistently fail to reach the heights that they were once at.

But in a real way, parity seems to have hit the EPL, at least parity at the top.  There are too many great coaches, all the top teams are making a killing, and all will spend money to get in really good talent.  ManU may have more money and may buy players that are a little bit better, but never to the degree that they were in the past.

I think we are simply like Tottenham in that at this point, we'd just love to win one title, then we could possibly kick on from there.

I don't know of any Liverpool fans that actually expect LIV to win the league.

:kicksrock: ....planned on it; was going to be my  last realistic chance to see Totti live...but alas, my son made travel team, and the resultant cost has shot that plan all to hell.  Thanks a lot, son... :wall:  :wall:
I just ordered my son's kit for the new season - $330. Unbelievable. That's the bear minimum - 2 shirts, 2 shorts, 2 socks, training jacket/pants, backpack. That amount used to pay for the entire season, and this is far from the fanciest club in town (which itself is far from a soccer hotbed). He'll probably outgrow this stuff by Spring and I'll have to replace it all again.

I'm not putting this in the USMNT thread as he has no USMNT impact....kinda terrifying and sad article about Chris Rolfe's struggle to recover from a concussion sustained in April.  Damn.
ugh. thanks for sharing that article. Twellman is a staunch concussion protocol advocate, IIRC- and had his career ended by them too.

I honestly shudder for my own long-term issues as a result of too many of them (1x baseball related, a bunch of soccer and 1x bike-crash): tinnitis and some short-term memory issues that have gotten a bit worse over time.

It's United and Mourinho - expectations are through the roof as everyone expected.  I've even read that the bookmakers might make them favorites if they sign Pogba.  But for me, I still want them to make good decisions.  Getting rid of Pogba to begin with was one of SAF's biggest mistake.  They are fortunate to be in a position where maybe money will allow them to somewhat erase it.  I don't want them making a similar mistake with these two.   Note, I'm not suggesting that either of these guys are on Pogba's level but from my observations they are two that shouldn't be given up on.

It's absurd...his training "penny" alone cost $23, outside of the requisite home/away uniforms & such, as you mention...and all travel expenses for out of state tournaments aren't included...it indeed costs a pretty "pennie"...but for my son's love of the game, this has to be done  ;) ...he just can't "piggyback" on his Dad's "broken" back, when it's all said, done, & paid for...

United had two other things going for it during that run - the brand and more importantly (IMO) Ferguson.  Realistic fans knew that once he retired it spelled the end of something special.

Almost exactly what it ran us too for the same git'up plus a training kit (shirt, shorts, socks).

No ####.  That caught my eye too.  Neither of my boys had to have their own penny.

How old is he @Kafka?
He's 9, & the team's 11-under.  I'm from Delaware, & believe it or not, they have a well established youth system set-up; aka Kirkwood Soccer Club.  I knew going in it would cost a bit, but paying for a training jersey, after all the other exorbitant costs...I was like WOW!

Eta: my wife just informed me we get an early "discount", so it's only $17...which is nice...

"Spelled the end of something special"...yeah, after 7 minutes of InjuryTime if they were tied/trailing...

My 10-year olds entire package - coaches, tournaments, kit all added up to a little over 2 grand last year.  He moved up a team this year but told us he wants to play on the travel basketball team - I was torn as I think he's better at soccer but I wanted to let him decide.  Saved us $1,500 but I still hoping he changes his mind and joins up during winter break.

North of $200 each for my 7 and 9 year olds. We avoided the training jacket/pants. Crazy talk.

Fosu-Mensah isnt going anywhere.  CBJ isnt either.  This came from a guy who speculated based on who was not at practice that day.  Since they were both hurt and missing they got added.  Pereira and Januzai will probably go on loan (Moyes is reportedly after Januzaj who was the only good player in his 10 months).  Keane, Blackett and McNair will probably be sold.  Wilson could go either way.  I hope they keep Pereira.  He could be the next Pogba if he leaves.

Along with SAF, David Gill leaving hurt just as much.  He conducted the transfer business and was fantastic about it.  He doesnt get enough credit due to SAF.  I think if he stays some of the transfer failures of Woodard with Moyes and LVG might not happen or at least arent as publicly failing.

But to your point, yes after fergie left the club was in for a let down.  Very few teams can lose top managers and keep going.  But usually they do it by getting the next big name (Bayern this year).  Arsenal better be ware when Wenger is finally done.  But even with the issues they finished 4th and 5th the last 2 years and now have a manager with an actual plan.  So yes the goal is to win the EPL, get back into CL and compete there next year.  Expectations are a top 4 finish (which because of SAF's success isnt good enough).

So I should be raising my son to totally suck at the game like his old man?
No, NO way Scooby (if I may be so informal).  It's a true treasure to see my middle born son adapt to, & adore the game of soccer.  His older brother, who just became a teenager, used to love both playing, & following, the game of soccer. Then he got an XBox & discovered girls, but worse yet, casually took to "following" AC Milan, just because he knew his Dad's ferverent, irrational, unfettered love for Roma would cause discord; & hence, he would be cool with his CallofDuty comrades by betraying his father.  Then came along my middle son, who had absolutely NO interest in soccer, or Roma, until two yrs ago when he started playing the game, & realized how much his dad psychotically followed the "Red & Yellow" team.  Once he became aware of the connection, he became an Ultra, both of Roma & the game of soccer in general.  To put it slightly, he has more talent in his right toe than his dad & 3 uncles have altogether ( & we were all fairly decent soccer players), & he's a "throwback" as far as all the other players in our youth setup rely mostly on speed & power, while he displays an old school patient  elegance on the ball; & his vision & touch are pretty darned good.  I love it, & don't mean to brag, but he truly appreciates the beauty of the game, as well as a 9 yr old can.  He's an "old-head".  The reason I say all this is because I could never put a price tag on this passionate dedication that my son puts into every practice, every game.  When I drag myself home,  worn out & weary from working in this heat, there is not a more pleasurable sound/sensation than hearing that poor, green, chain-like fence in our backyard reverberate, as its being subjected to the relentless pounding that his magical right foot insists upon.  So, to answer your question, it's well worth it, & despite my #####ing, I  wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.  Forza Scrappy Doo!

I think they keep Wenger because he does very well with the given budget.  Their next manager will require a bigger war chest to even maintain in the current environment.

One ManU player who has always intrigued me is Januzaj...he seems to have immense talent & capability, from the limited times I've actually seen him play, but apparently said talent hasn't manifested itself  on the actual playing field when it really matters.  Was he on loan last year, & what is keeping him from actualizing (what I saw to be) his raw talent?  I thought he would become a major name in the European game, but apparently that's not the case.  Just curious...

That's some good profligating

Kevin Gamiero to Atlético confirmed for 32m€. Two French strikers up top fit Atlético. He's not the big number 9 I've been hoping for, but he does score goals (just ask Liverpool).  Good motor too. I think he can play alongside Grizi, as well as being a backup to him for depth.

Some will say that Atleti won't be able to score in the air from open play, but I disagree. Grizi gets plenty of good chances with his head because his movement in the box is so good.  This also means that Torres will get more run than we thought this season.

Now for something completely different.

I haven't mentioned my co-ed Y team in a while ... Dazed and Confused dropped to 1-2-1 on the season with a 14-1 drubbing tonight.  But yours truly was the 1 on a header into the back of the net.  Yeh, I'm telling everyone.
Match write-up by our Team Manager.  Well, Point of Contact, there's no managing this group.

Code:
The first match of the week was Tuesday, we faced the Blue Barracudas, a team that clearly should not be in this
division, maybe the A league, (probably the Competitive league) – regardless, we came into the match knowing that
we were going to be short-handed, and we showed up to play for fun anyway.

Mike braved the first half with the sun in his eyes, but we decided that the first half was only a “Volley for the
serve” which we gave them (8-0) – We came out to play in the second half, we saw Mjolnirs out wandering about the
field in the box even – and as fate would have it – Mjolnirs received a beauty of a pass in that very same box and
placed his head on it to find the back of the net. Not even our NET – I tell you it was a thing of beauty watching
that ball hit THEIR net! Way to go Mjolnirs.

They put up four points to our one that half, final score was 4-1 them – (on the Y score card it may show up as 12-1
– their program doesn’t understand Volley for the serve.

We came to have fun and we did just that. The Blue Barracuda’s came to show us their soccer skills, and they did just
that– a win-win – seriously they did play a friendly match – they are just in the wrong division. I mean we don’t
play in the competitive division, why should they play in ours?
