United are looking much better today.  Martial and Mkhi making bids for playing time.  I think it's time to let Rashford step out of the starting lineup for awhile.
Agreed.  Carrick, Martial, Mkhy should be starting.  And Pogba over Rooney and this could get fun again.  And Rashford sitting for a bit isnt bad.  Sub him in late for Zlatan.

Draw about to be rigged LFC v ManU for the 2-legged semi-final.
Was expecting trying to set them up for the finals

Semi draw:
Southampton v Liverpool
United v Hull

And Schweini almost gets a goal!

I realize it's the League Cup...and it's West Ham...and Payet looks like he'd rather be doing anything other than playing.....

But if THIS United show up consistently, the other top 5 teams will be glad they have a big head start in points.

And it can only get better when Bailley gets fit and Pogba comes in for Herrera and Mata for Rooney.

I didn't see last weekend's game, but the last couple of games I thought United has looked good... not bloodied. just not getting maximum points.

They have looked better and are getting shots.  They just couldn't find the goal.  They should have beat West Ham on Sunday but couldn't finish.  Rashford misses a breakaway, Mkhy hits the post and Lingard's goal called back for offside.  Adrian makes a couple outstanding saves and they don't get max points.

So the table says this is a worse start then both Moyes and LVG had.  But if you watch you seen them playing a better game and actually creating chances, just not scoring.  Some unlucky, some due to keepers having games of their lives.  For instance, LVG's United drew 0-0 to West Ham in this fixture last year.  Had 1 shot on goal.  This weekend had 8 but drew 1-1.  Same result, better performance.

One other complicating factor with Pulisic, if Dortmund were to consider selling him this summer - both his dad and his cousin are at Dortmund. His dad a coach and his cousin (also 18) is on one of the youth teams. I've got no knowledge of the situation whatsoever, but it seems at least possible it would have to be a package deal.

this is what my point was (in my head).

the quality of play, the way they're dictating their approach to the games... it's night and day compared to under Moyes and LVG, regardless of the points total. sure, it helps that they reloaded with zlat and pogba, and tbh I don't trust mou to not #### this up by getting too defensive and/or fro-ey. but they've been playing an attractive, flowing, attacking style that has this mostly neutral interested again. last two years, felt like I might as well have been watching fulham (without US players)

yeah- his dad is the robot coach. we dont' want another westworld on our hands

Agreed.  And you are correct with Mou, he sees a good performance like this and thinks, oh no we better not start Mkhy, Martial or Carrick 2 games in a row....  I need more FRO!

And the goals will come...

God, how I hate Vermaelan...Roma signed him in August, & in his first start, drew a red vs Porto in the UCL...in the 1st half!  That effectively ended Roma's UCL...then in his next start, got injured, & had been out till this week.  What does he do for an encore?  Why, break Salah's ankle in practice, of course , ruling him out for the Roma- Lazio Derby Sunday...you know...only the most important game of the year ( aside from the UCL one). What a mother####ing piece of ####!  Thanks, Barca. :wall: :ptts:

We all love to poke fun at Chicago but that looks like a very good signing and on the right side of 30 as well.

Getting both Nikolic and Schwieny would make a huge difference in their squad.
yeah... good bit of business by them.

also- nice to see them and MLS snipe the EPL on a player... will hopefully open the eyes of some other "younger" players out there that it doesn't have to always be a move to the EPL.

How are there not a bazillion posts about Harry Kane?  I step away from the keyboard for one day, and the place forgets about Spurs???

Awesome signing.  Like he was ever going anywhere else...

Not sure what is happening in Chicago to finally get the wallets to open, but this tweet below is not about Nikolic

Learned yesterday that the Fire paid a $3 million transfer fee for a player with a €1 million buyout clause

Sorry, Kafka.  Hopefully the Azulgrana will make it up to Roma by letting them sign Mathieu in the January transfer window.  ;)

SOUTH AMERICAN legends Ronaldinho and Juan Roman Riquelme are reportedly considering coming out of retirement to play for Chapecoense following a huge social media campaign.

No schtick... I wrote this last night, but didn't post it:

Bet there are Brazilian players who return to Brazil and play for Chapecoense next year.  Or name players at the end of their careers go there.

Also, rumor is that United fans are looking into whether Fellaini might have any Brazilian ancestors.

I agree it's a good contract extension.  I don't personally think Kane will leave Tott anytime in the foreseeable future.

MLS fans.  How does the MLS transfer season work?  Can anyone give me a quick rundown?  Does it coincide with the January transfer windows around the world?  How does the draft work?

I'm going to begin following Atlanta, so I'd like to know when they will really start filling out their rosters.  I've seen a few signings so far but wondered how it generally works in this league.

MLS has 2 transfer windows:

Primary: Early Feb to late May

Secondary: early July to early August

MLS has a draft system similar to ther US sports.  They call it the Superdraft, typically held in January.  It showcases mostly college kids mostly that are unaligned with MLS academies.  It is becoming less important every year as the academies grow

===========

Next year will also have the special expansion drafts for the two new teams.  Here is the format from Mlssoccer.com

The existing 20 teams protect 11 players they wish to absolutely keep and prevent from being selected by Atlanta or Minnesota. Generation adidas and Homegrown players are also exempt and protected from the Expansion Draft.

Minnesota and Atlanta can choose from the remaining players in a back-and-forth draft format, with Atlanta getting the first pick because of a coin flip. The draft will last five rounds with 10 total players being drafted.

Only a single player can be drafted from any one club. So, for example, if a player from the New York Red Bull is selected in the first round, the remaining players on the Red Bulls roster will then be off limits in the draft.

This reminds me of a few years ago when a few famous ex-River Plate players (Trezeguet, etc..)returned to rescue them from the 2nd division. Not the same, but still pretty cool.

MLS is going to 22 and still expanding?  What's the max size that's doable NR?
Yeah, Floppo is correct, the stated end goal is 32 and I would bet at that point that another Canadian market or two emerges and they push to 36 eventually but 32 seems all but assured in the next 10-15 years IMO.  They have cities falling over each other to get in the league so they can hopefully pick and choose wisely.

Cincy, Sacramento and St Louis look like absolute slam dunk choices to me.  All 3 are going to create another Portland like scenario.

I am not as bullish on Detroit but I said the same thing about Atlanta and could not have been more wrong.

Eventually Becks has to sink or swim in Miami too.

So, what... 31 game regular season, and switch off H/A every year?  That's at least reasonably balanced.
they will never have a true balanced scheduled imo.

The closest they can get is at 24 teams where you play everyone in your conference twice and everyone in the other conference once, which keeps them at a tidy 34 games, which is still a tight fit in the calendar.

========================

Atlanta United are close to landing a No. 1 goalkeeper.

The 2017 expansion club are nearing a deal to acquire Georgia native Sean Johnson from the Chicago Fire, according to multiple sources.

If the deal is completed, Chicago will receive general allocation money in exchange for the 27-year-old Johnson, who has appeared in 176 regular season games since being drafted by the Fire in 2010. Though the sources indicated that the trade is all but done, it can’t become official until the MLS trade window temporarily re-opens for three hours on the morning of Sunday, Dec. 11, the day after MLS Cup.

After beating League One Gillingham in the last round, Brackley Town heads to League Two Blackpool tomorrow for Round 2 proper in the FA Cup. 230 fans have bought tickets for the trip.

The former owner of the Padres is reportedly going to buy Nottingham Forrest.  So... I wonder if he'd ever consider having two franchises in two continents to share players facilitate transfer deals.

32 is crazy.  Not just because of scheduling issues, but because its already a top heavy league in terms of player talent.  In a 32 team league, we'll have players that make Conor Doyle look like Messi.

I've been led to believe that rich Americans aren't comfortable with the financial risks inherent in open league systems.
