***Official Soccer Discussion Thread*** (9 Viewers)

Anyone feel like wandering into the Frank Deford thread? RIP to Frank, but in my mind he represents the old guard of willfully ignorant soccer hating sports writers I'll not miss.
just googled him- as soon as I saw his picture...

eta: which is to say- of course I know who he is... omnipresent in US sports broadcasting, especially if you've watched HBO real-sports or boxing.

Pretty sure he wrote an article one time about hating scarfs - you are probably experiencing PTSD.

This reminded me to tell this story.  As mentioned before I have season tickets to Atlanta United - guy and his wife that sits behind us seem friendly enough and we've chatted just briefly before.  Since my wife went with me this weekend we all started chatting at half - turns out the guy is originally from England.  Grew up near Leeds and is a Leicester fan.

Said his brother played on the Nottingham Forest youth team and his Dad played in some FA cups sides.  The most interesting part to me was that he didn't want to spend much time talking EPL but MLS and how pumped he was to have the team - I thought a former Euro may be a little snobbish about MLS but he seemed impressed by what we have.
That's the difference between a Leicester and Chelsea fan.

Relegation BL1 v BL2
Wolfsburg over Braunschweig 1-0 in leg one.  Leg two Monday at Braunschweig.

Relegation BL2 v BL3
Jahn Regensberg and 1860 draw 1-1 in leg one.  Leg two Tuesday at 1860.
Wolfsburg win the second leg 1-0 and stay in BL1, Braunschweig stay in BL2

Jahn Regensberg win the second leg 2-0 and move up to BL2, 1860 München drop to BL3

Did I read something where that entire organization was effectively relegated (as in several of their teams were relegated on their own, or as a result of the 1st Team dropping to BL3)?

I have not seen that, but I'll have to look for it.

Which reddit tells me says:

  • 1st team: relegated from the 2. Bundesliga
  • U21: forced relegation from the Bayernliga (4th) tier due to the 1st teams relegation
  • U19: relegated from the youth Bundesliga
  • U17: relegated from the youth Bundesliga
  • U16: forced relegation from the youth Bundesliga due to the U17s relegation

Just found this thread. My primary interests are as follows:

International
USA
Germany
Whoever is playing Mexico

Bundesliga
Bayern Munchen
Borussia Dortmund (primarily just for the wunderkind)

MLS
Columbus Crew

USL Professional Division
FC Cincinnati

Most people in St. Louis hate you.  A lot of people in London hate you.  Every other team in the EPL just wants you to keep being you Stan.

“Our ambition is to win the Premier League and other major trophies in Europe,” Kroenke said. “It’s what the fans, players, staff, manager and board expect and we won’t rest until that is achieved. Arsène is the best person to help us make that happen. He has a fantastic track record and has our full backing.”

Apologies. I could have sworn I posted in the correct thread. I'll move it.
New guy status lasts at least 3 years. These guys are VERY welcoming.  I recommend proposing changes to European formats.  But if you're ever feeling unloved, just slam Spurs and you'll get a few likes.

am I nuts or has @Buzzbait been posting in here for years?  I remember the Dempsey avatar clearly.
Yeah longtime. When I posted my allegiances above it was after clicking a link Sinn Fein posted in "Soccer Forum." I mistakenly thought it took me to another thread specifically for the purpose to note rooting interests. Didn't really pay any attention that it took me to this thread until El Floppo brought it to my attention.

Bottom line my bad. Move along, nothing to see here.

Nah - that is a single post that Tasker maintains - but the link is no longer in his signature, so I included the link just to that post.

And old.

Whichever thread one posts footy stuff in is never the right one.
Take it to the TAM thread, imo.

All good. You go way back. Back to the end of the line, Shader, you newbie ####.

Wolfsburg reportedly paid €20 million for John Brooks, making him the most expensive American transfer ever, twice the fee Sunderland paid for Jozy way back. That remains a curious move on his part, imo, but it sure looks like he is pretty well valued in Bundesliga.

Don't think it's that curious.  Whatever the results this year, Wolfsburg is a historically bigger team with more resources.
